may be known across the world today, but few know the touching story behind his name. It wasn't his parents who named him — the honour goes to his maternal uncle, Gopinathan Nair.
As reported by On Manorama, at a time when the family was leaning toward naming the baby Roshan Lal, it was Nair who suggested 'Mohanlal', believing it had a charm and uniqueness that would stand the test of time. His instinct proved prophetic. Mohanlal would later say that the name never gave him trouble — even when it stood out for being uncommon.
A life rooted in simplicity and service
Gopinathan Nair led a life of deep commitment and humility.
He served as the general manager of the Alappuzha District Cooperative Bank and later chose a spiritually fulfilling path by becoming a full-time resident of Mata Amritanandamayi's ashram in Amritapuri. For the past 14 years, he lived there in devotion and service. It was also Nair who introduced Mohanlal to Mata Amritanandamayi, a connection the actor has held close over the years.

Country musician Conner Smith fatally hit pedestrian with truck. No charges now, but probe ongoing
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Country musician Conner Smith fatally hit a pedestrian while driving his truck in Nashville over the weekend, and he currently faces no charges as an investigation continues, police said. Metro Nashville Police said Smith, 24, hit Dorothy Dobbins, 77, Sunday evening while she was crossing the road inside a marked crosswalk. Dobbins, a retired attorney, later died at a hospital.
