No storage on your iPhone? 10 preinstalled apps you can delete without worry

Indian Express24-05-2025
There are many apps that come pre-installed on a brand-new iPhone, when you first unbox it and turn it on, which is generally a good thing. Without going to the App Store and downloading a slate of new apps, pre-installed apps help users quickly start using the web, checking their emails, streaming music, taking notes, and more. However, not everyone is going to make use of all of these pre-installed apps.
Hence, by uninstalling the apps you don't actually need, you can save space on your phone and bandwidth as well, without app updates. Apple has made an increasing number of apps optional in recent years, so you can now remove more apps than you might have thought possible. The App Store makes it simple to download them, in case you find you are in need of these apps again.
– Books: If you don't want to read any digital books, you can delete Apple's e-book library from your iPhone. It has been a part of iOS since 2014.
– Compass: If you're sure you won't need it, you can safely uninstall this lesser-known app. The app was launched in 2009 along with iOS 3.
– Freeform: It is an Apple-developed virtual brainstorming app that first became available in iOS in 2022. It is safe to remove from your iPhone without causing any issues.
– Home: The Home app was initially introduced for iPhones in 2016. But you can remove this app without any problems as Apple's smart home platform hasn't been its biggest success.
– Journal: Since 2023, Journal has been available on iPhones, enabling users to document recollections on a daily basis. But you can remove this app if journaling isn't for you or if you've discovered a better alternative.
– Magnifier: Although it may have gone unnoticed on iOS, the Magnifier app has been a stand-alone, preinstalled app on iPhones since 2020.
– Measure: Since iOS 12, this utility app has been included free of charge with every iPhone. It can be taken off if you don't need to measure anything on your iPhone.
– News: You can easily delete this if you're not getting your news fix via Apple's News app. The first time it appeared in iOS was in 2015.
– TV: All of your Apple films and television series are available through the Apple TV app, which has been available as a stand-alone app since 2016. But if you don't have an Apple TV subscription, you have the option to remove the app.
– Reminders: Reminders, which have been a part of iOS since 2011, can be removed if you're utilising a different app for this purpose.
While other apps such as Health, Mail, Maps, Contacts, Notes, Playground, Passwords, Podcasts, Shortcuts, Stocks, Tips, Translate, Watch, and Weather can also be uninstalled, these pre-installed apps could end up coming in handy. Hence, it would not be a good idea to uninstall them unless there is no other option to increase storage on your iPhone.

Google Pixel 10 series launching in 2 days and here is everything we know about it so far

Google is just two days away from unveiling the Pixel 10 series, and by now, we already have a fair idea of what to expect, thanks to leaks. The company's next big event — Made by Google — on August 20 will introduce multiple devices, including the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Alongside these, Google is also set to reveal the Pixel Watch 4 and new Pixel Buds. While the official launch will confirm everything, most of the surprises seem to have slipped out early. The only real mystery now is whether Google has held back a few software surprises to show off on stage or with the Pixel 10, the standard model is expected to bring the most changes compared to its predecessor. Google is said to be refreshing the colour palette this year, with Indigo, Frost and Limoncello joining the line-up. The only shade carried over from the Pixel 9 is Obsidian, with long-time favourites like Porcelain being dropped. The Frost finish resembles Apple's softer blue from a couple of years ago, Indigo brings back memories of the very first Pixel, and Limoncello adds a striking green that's brighter than last year's back of the Pixel 10 has also been reworked. As per leaked photos, the camera bar looks familiar at first glance. However, the glass area is now larger, making space for a third lens — a 10.8-megapixel telephoto sensor (said to be borrowed from the Pixel 9a and Pixel 9 Pro Fold), which has never been part of the standard Pixel model until now. It is said to join the 48-megapixel primary camera and 12-megapixel ultra-wide lenses. Rumours suggest the phone will be powered by the Tensor G5 chip (rumoured to be built by TSMC) and feature a 4,970mAh battery, which should give it a bump in endurance over the Pixel 9. The Pixel 10 Pro sticks closer to the formula but still has its share of upgrades. It will likely share the same Tensor G5 processor and software features as the other models, running on Android 16 out of the box. The battery size here is expected to be 4,870mAh, slightly smaller than the base Pixel 10. Design-wise, it is expected to keep the polished aluminium frame and curved corners, along with a 6.3-inch AMOLED display and a triple camera array at the back. Colour options are expected to include Moonstone, Obsidian, Jade and for the Pixel 10 Pro XL, several leaked renders show it in Moonstone and Obsidian, with Porcelain and Jade also on the way. The device is expected to feature a 6.8-inch AMOLED display with slim bezels, a central hole-punch selfie camera, and up to 3,000 nits of peak brightness (same as the Pixel 10 Pro). Inside, it is also expected to pack the Tensor G5 chip, 16GB RAM, up to 1TB of storage and a 5,200mAh battery with 39W fast wired charging. The rear cameras will likely include a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 48-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 48-megapixel telephoto, with the temperature sensor also making a most intriguing device of the lot is the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which Google has already teased in an official video. The teaser shows off the foldable in Moonstone, with Jade also tipped as an option. The cover display is now said to be 6.4 inches, made possible by slimmer bezels, and the battery is rumoured to have grown to 5,015mAh. Charging speeds are said to be 23W wired and 15W wireless through the Qi2 standard. Like its siblings, it will run on the Tensor G5 chip. While Google has kept full details under wraps for the launch event, the short teaser all but confirmed the design and camera four phones in the Pixel 10 are expected to share a consistent design language, but the differences lie in size, performance headroom, and camera systems. Pre-orders for the Pixel 10 family will likely open on launch day, with shipping expected to begin on August 28.- Ends
