Taking to X, Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed deep sorrow over the demise, and recalled Sethuraman's poem that had appeared in the DMK organ 'Murasoli'. Stalin also recalled the words of former CM M Karunanidhi, who hailed Sethuraman as a scholar who dedicated his entire life to Tamil.
The state government had honoured Sethuraman with Kalaimamani and Thiruvalluvar awards in the past. The CM said Sethuraman has penned over one lakh poems and numerous poetry collections.

DMK demands Tamil question papers for CBSE Class 10, 12 exams
Leader of the Opposition and DMK convenor R. Siva has demanded the provision of Tamil language question papers for the annual examinations for CBSE Classes 10 and 12. In a recent statement, Mr. Siva said students and parents were distressed by CBSE board examination papers for Classes 10 and 12 being issued only in English and Hindi. He sought bilingual question papers to start incorporating regional languages from the current academic year. The DMK leader also opposed the move to introduce tests to promote students of Classes 5 and 8. He feared that failing to clear these tests to move to the next class would negatively affect the confidence of students and could potentially trigger higher drop-outs. Pointing to Tamil Nadu's practice of promoting students up to Class 9, he urged the Puducherry government to replicate that model and to revert to a State syllabus. Reiterating his charge that the AINRC-BJP government had pushed through the implementation of the Centrally-framed National Education Policy in an ill-prepared manner, Mr. Siva said the lack of teachers for specific subjects, the delayed distribution of textbooks and uniforms and a lack of uniform access to libraries were impairing the academic performance of students. He also sought the appointment of specially trained teachers for children with disabilities and dyslexia. On NEET admissions, Mr. Siva demanded that the government disclose the details of admissions through the 10% quota for students who have studied in Government schools from Std I to Std XII in the Union Territory of Puducherry to higher education courses. Claiming that only 14 of the 37 seats in this category were filled in the previous admission cycle, the DMK leader urged the government to clarify the status of the remaining seats. The DMK would launch an agitation if the authorities continued to be negligent in safeguarding the interests of the student community and the welfare of teachers, he said.

TVK scotches speculation on alliance with AIADMK, regardless of BJP's position
Amid speculation that actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) may align with the AIADMK in the run-up to the 2026 Assembly election, if the BJP stays out of the coalition, the party has ruled out the possibility. TVK general secretary (propaganda and policy) K.G. Arunraj told The Hindu that the party was not considering a tie-up with the AIADMK, regardless of the BJP's position and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami's renewed appeal to like-minded parties to join hands against the ruling DMK. He said the TVK had entered the political arena to usher in a change in Tamil Nadu politics. 'The people of Tamil Nadu are disillusioned with both the DMK and the AIADMK and are looking for a meaningful and credible alternative,' he said. Asked whether the TVK was trying to position itself better than the AIADMK in opposing the ruling party to bag the anti-DMK votes, he said, 'The AIADMK is in disarray despite being under single leadership. In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, it forfeited deposits in seven constituencies. This shows that the anti-DMK votes are not transferring only to the AIADMK as they did in the earlier elections.' As for the revival of the AIADMK-BJP alliance in April this year, he said there was no enthusiasm among the workers of both parties. According to him, the AIADMK workers felt that the tie-up was 'forced'. Dr. Arunraj said public dissatisfaction with the DMK government had been brewing for some time, and was increasingly visible. 'Every day of DMK rule is adding to anti-incumbency. The government lacks any long-term vision for Tamil Nadu's growth,' he said. Other sources in the TVK said the party had conducted a State-wide survey to gauge its organisational strength and public support. They described the findings as 'encouraging'. 'Support for the TVK is increasing even before our party president embarks on his tour of the State. Once he hits the ground, we expect a significant shift in momentum in our favour,' one of the sources added.

DMK's membership drive shows the party has become weak, says K.P. Munusamy
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) deputy general secretary K.P. Munusamy has alleged that inducting new members by visiting every household shows the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has become weak. The AIADMK deputy general secretary inaugurated a medical camp and blood donation camp at Gangaleri in Krishnagiri block on Sunday. Mr. Munusamy told reporters usually if a person wants to be a member of a political party, he /she will pay the fee and submit a form. But under the Oraniyil Tamil Nadu inititaive, the DMK cadre are visiting every house to induct new members and it shows the party has become weak. On the 'custodial' death of a temple guard in Sivaganga district, Mr. Munusamy said that if the police picked up a person on suspicion, they should only question him. Based on the instructions from 'someone', he was beaten up and it led to his death. The post-mortem report revealed multiple injury marks in the body. The police took the law into their own hands, believing that some political leader will safeguard them. If this situation continued, it will not be safe for common people. During the AIADMK regime, the law and order situation was good.' Responding to a question on the claims of the farmers' association leader P.R. Pandian that they will contest against DMK in the 2026 elections, Mr. Munusamy said that the farmers were affected by the DMK government and their views were correct. The AIADMK demanded ₹30,000 an acre for mango farmers to safeguard their livelihood. But the government is doing politics. The DMK will pay for this in 2026 elections, he said.
