Kajol says NO to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge sequel with Shah Rukh Khan: 'Nobody wants to know if they fought over diapers or not'
Kajol has expressed her views on potential sequels to her iconic films, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, stating that some love stories are best left untouched. She believes the magic of DDLJ lies in its perfect ending, while recreating the eternal love of KKHH would be challenging in today's world.
Kajol is setting the record straight on sequels to her classic films. As she gears up for the release of her upcoming horror film Maa, the actress shared her candid and hilarious take on the idea of a Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge or Kuch Kuch Hota Hai sequel—revealing why some love stories are better left untouched.
In a chat with Pinkvilla, Kajol was asked about the possibility of a sequel to the iconic 1995 film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, in which she starred opposite
Shah Rukh Khan
. While she admitted she'd love the idea in theory, Kajol humorously confessed that she simply can't imagine a DDLJ 2 happening.
The actress explained her stance with a touch of humor, saying that every film carries its own magic, and DDLJ was no different. She joked that no one really wants to know what happened after the iconic train scene—whether the couple ended up arguing over mundane things like diapers.
For her, the magic lies in leaving that fairytale ending untouched.
She also added that the beauty of DDLJ lies in its ending, calling it 'brilliant' that the story wraps up as the train leaves. She believes it's best left to the audience's imagination—preserving the magic of 'happily ever after' without delving into what happens next.
When asked about the possibility of a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai sequel, Kajol, who starred alongside Shah Rukh Khan in the film, reflected on how it belonged to a different era—one where audiences believed deeply in eternal love.

She shared that recreating such a story in today's world would be challenging.
Kajol explained that Kuch Kuch Hota Hai worked so well because it was set in a different time, with characters and a world where people truly believed in once-in-a-lifetime, eternal love. She noted that in today's world, with changing belief systems, it would be difficult to recreate a story with the same emotional depth and conviction.
Kajol is all set for the release of Maa, a mythological horror film directed by
Vishal Furia
, hitting theatres on June 27, 2025. Co-starring Ronit Roy and Indraneil Sengupta, the film serves as a spin-off to
Ajay Devgn
's 2024 supernatural thriller Shaitaan.

Arjun Kapoor expresses his deep fondness for Shah Rukh Khan: ‘I think he is even way ahead of AI'
Arjun Kapoor began his journey in the film industry as an assistant director on the sets of Kal Ho Naa Ho. It was there that he had the rare opportunity to observe and interact closely with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, an experience he holds very dear. Recalling that memory on the Raj Shamani podcast, Arjun shared how profoundly it impacted him. The actor said, 'I was completely enamoured by the way he is. Some people are touched by Gods, some people have larger-than-life personas, they really transcend generations. I think the brain he's got, it's very unique and peculiar. I think he is even way ahead of AI. Just the way he understands, he has human compassion. He is meticulous, yet also has all the time in the world to be sits with you and looks you in the eyes while speaking…But at the same time, his awareness is so high that he knows exactly what else is going on around him).' He added: 'Even on a film set, he will show you respect because I believe his upbringing is amazing. He has suffered a lot of trauma, he lost his parents, so he has deep emotional empathy. He has always wanted to be more and more knowledgeable. He reads a lot, and when he speaks, it comes from a place of learning. He's hungry, there's a quest to be bigger and better. He is just a special human being.' No matter how busy he is, he will make sure to respond. There's a personal warmth he always gives. He's accessible to you, but he's Shah Rukh Khan… yet he never lets you feel that distance. He is really inexplicable. He is timeless and larger than life, that's part of his charm. Every time I have met him and spoken to him, he has left an impact on me. He connects with you, engages with you, something I don't think I can do. But he's able to look into your soul and speak to you.' Reflecting on his cinematic legacy and his rise as an actor, Arjun spoke with admiration: 'He has always been the common man who reached great heights and made you believe in the power of dreams.
