Microsoft server hack has now hit 400 victims, researchers say

A sweeping cyber-espionage campaign organization centered on vulnerable versions of Microsoft's server software has now claimed about 400 victims, according to researchers at Netherlands-based Eye Security The figure, which is derived from a count of digital artifacts discovered during scans of servers running vulnerable versions of Microsoft's SharePoint software, compares to 100 organizations cataloged over the weekend. Eye Security says the figure is likely an undercount."There are many more, because not all attack vectors have left artifacts that we could scan for," said Vaisha Bernard, the chief hacker for Eye Security, which was among the first organizations to flag the breaches.The spy campaign kicked off after Microsoft failed to fully patch a security holein its SharePoint server software, kicking off a scramble to fix the vulnerability when it was discovered. Microsoft and its tech rival, Google owner Alphabet, have both said Chinese hackers are among those taking advantage of the flaw. Beijing has denied the claim.The details of most of the victim organizations have not yet been fully disclosed. Bernard declined to identify them.

Mumbai girl rescued from child marriage returns to school
Mumbai: A minor girl from Kurla, who at the age of 12 last year was rescued from a terrible child marriage plan, has now resumed her school education in the city after overcoming her ordeal. At just 12 years old, she faced a tragedy no child should ever endure — the loss of her father, the betrayal of trust by those meant to protect her, especially her mother, and the horrifying reality of being pushed into child marriage. Her life was nearly snatched away, and her freedom vanished before her eyes. In a world where hope often feels distant for children like her, justice has thankfully prevailed," said Mathai. He added that while we often speak of women empowerment, supporting and protecting our girls is not just a slogan — "it's the least we can do. Ensuring every girl child has the right to education, dignity, and safety must remain our highest priority. He also thanked the Andhra Pradesh police force for quickly acting on their complaint about the forced child marriage.

Indian mining seminar highlights responsible practices
Nagpur: The two-day seminar on "Indian Mining: Present Scenario and Future Perspective," organised by the Mining Engineers Association of India (MEAI), ended on Saturday with experts emphasising on responsible mining and understanding the changing landscape of the sector. Chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) of Manganese Ore India Limited (MOIL), Ajik Kumar Saxena, who was the chief guest, spoke on the timely analysis of mining leftovers for identifying the possibility of finding critical minerals from mine waste, tailings, or slags. The CMD of Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL), also a Nagpur-based public sector undertaking, Indra Dev Narayan was the guest of honour. He said PSUs like MECL play a crucial role in shaping the future of the country's mining sector. "We have been instrumental in discovering reserves of nearly all major minerals across the country. In recent years, MECL has expanded its role beyond traditional drilling to advanced exploration technologies, data analytics, and remote sensing.
