GATWICK Airport suffered a major security scare when a maniac snuck through security and tried to get on a plane – before being tackled by hero passengers.
William Jonzi, 24, followed a paying customer through the e-gates at the major international airport before attempting to jump on a flight with no documents last Wednesday morning.

The man was tackled to the floor when he 'went berserk' and began shouting while trying to board the TUI jet to Spanish holiday hotspot Palma de Mallorca at 6am.
Jonzi snuck past cops and security by getting through the south terminal's automatic security gates with another passenger, who was unknowingly 'tailgated'.
He then roamed freely airside before making his way to Gate 23, where the plane, operated by Ascend Airways on TUI's behalf, was about to depart.
Jimmy McBride, who was on the flight to Spain, told The Sun he grabbed Jonzi and forced him to the ground in front of terrified children and families after spotting him acting erratically.
The father, of Sussex, told The Sun he felt 'something was off' as Jonzi charged towards the 6am flight while shouting 'I've got to get on the plane'.
He said: 'I grabbed him as he got two feet on the plane. He was trying to get on and get towards the passengers.
'He tried to come on with another woman and pretended her pram was his.
'The cabin crew had told him he wasn't coming on the flight. When he tried to get on, they told him, 'Sir, we've told you, you can't come on.'
'I caught him and got him to the ground, but the crew thought it was a fight and told me to get off him, as if I was beating him up for no reason.'
The plane's crew are said to have held Jonzi at the front of the aircraft until the police arrived.
Fellow passenger Dayna White, 29, was confronted by Jonzi as he tried to board the flight alongside her mother Andrea.
The mum, who was looking forward to a 10-night family holiday, said: 'It was a bit concerning.
"It's my first holiday with my child, so it wasn't a good experience.
'We're going to put a complaint in. He had been loitering around, so it's hardly as if it was a shock that he'd try to get on that plane.'
The flight eventually took off at 8.20am – two hours and 20 minutes later than scheduled.
Jonzi, of Croydon, South London, appeared at Crawley magistrates' court last Thursday and pleaded guilty to entering the protected security area of an airport without permission.
He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £89 in costs and surcharges.
Last year, we revealed how jobless Craig Sturt jetted to New York on a British Airways flight following a staggering series of blunders.
A week later, a Brit man managed to sneak onto a Norwegian Air flight in a bid to reach Danish capital Copenhagen undetected.
Tui sources said the plane was operated by another carrier, which was working with the police.
Gatwick Airport declined to comment.

More info Police have allegedly thwarted a suspected terror attack on the soldiers protecting King Charles. It is reported a man was arrested after his alleged plan was revealed while he was in custody being interrogated on separate offences. Following the man's arrest military personnel at a barracks near Windsor Castle in Windsor, Berkshire were reportedly warned not to leave the grounds in uniform. The alert remained in place for two days at Victoria Barracks, home to the 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, the Mirror reports. A source told The Sun : 'The suspect is feared to have been plotting an attack. Police informed bosses at the barracks and measures were taken immediately despite him already being in custody. It was a huge security scare. But it was in the interests of everyone's safety.' According to the Sun Thames Valley Police first arrested the man in Slough, Berkshire, last week on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and arson at the nearby Salt Hill Activity Centre. However, while he was in custody on Sunday June, 1 police re-arrested him on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts. The suspect is believed to be a 'lone actor' and no other arrests have been made. The alleged incident has understandably caused some concern among local residents so police have steppd up patrols to reassure the public. Police have not yet named, or released any further details about, the 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the suspected terror attack. Windsor Barracks, specifically Victoria Barracks and Combermere Barracks, have a rich history intertwined with military service and the royal family. Victoria Barracks was originally built for the Foot Guards and has seen various expansions and changes over time. Today, it's home to the Household Cavalry and is the starting point for the Changing the Guard procession at Windsor Castle. The barracks are located 0.25 miles (0.40 km) south of Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle, the world's largest and oldest occupied castle, is open on set days throughout the year. As a working royal palace, it is used frequently by The Sovereign for State ceremonies and official entertaining, and closures can occasionally occur at short notice. The presence of the monarch at Windsor Castle is signified by the Royal Standard flag flying majestically from the Round Tower. This is a tradition that continued from Victoria's time. Although Queen Victoria is long gone, this practice is a direct nod to her reign and the customs she helped establish. Earlier this week an intruder sparked a royal security scare after they allegedly broke into the grounds of Windsor Castle. The man is said to have climbed over the wall to get in the castle grounds on Sunday before he was quickly detained by officers from the Metropolitan Police, which is responsible for security at the royal residence. Murder suspect 'marries teen girlfriend in secret wedding' while on the run

Jonny Smyth, who is being held in a Spanish prison as a suspect in the murder of John George, married 19-year-old Madison Allen while on the run from police, his new wife claims A man accused of a brutal murder in Spain is alleged to have secretly married his teenage partner while on the run from police. Jonny Smyth, a murder suspect now being held in a Spanish prison, tied the knot with 19-year-old Madison Allen during his time on the run, Allen has claimed. Smyth is suspected of involvement in the killing of 36-year-old Belfast man John George, whose body was discovered in a remote orchard in southern Spain earlier this year. Mr George disappeared in December 2024 while visiting Spain for what was reportedly a short holiday. His body was found on January 7, dumped in an isolated orchard near the town of Rojales, close to Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca. He had been stabbed and shot multiple times, including wounds to his chest and face. Soon after Mr George's disappearance, Smyth left Spain along with Allen, a model from Newtownabbey, County Antrim. They were traced to an Airbnb in Portugal, booked under Allen's name, where Smyth had been living for about a month. He was arrested there in March 2025 under a European Arrest Warrant and subsequently extradited back to Spain. Despite being the subject of an active Interpol red notice, Smyth was somehow able to travel to Gibraltar in February with Allen, where the couple were married in a civil ceremony, she said. According to Allen, the wedding took place at The Convent, the official residence of the Governor of Gibraltar - a venue often used for high-profile ceremonies, including royal receptions. Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, Allen confirmed the marriage but defended their decision to keep it quiet. '[No-one] public needs to know anything about me, hence why it wasn't uploaded in February,' she said. 'And my partner's case or a murder has nothing to do with a marriage. "I've already done my bit in court. I was the one who suggested getting married.' Though she claims to have kept the wedding private, Allen has shared glimpses of her married life on TikTok, including photos of her wedding ring and a screenshot of a virtual prison visit with Smyth. She continues to post regularly from Spain. Allen is not a suspect in the murder investigation and is not being sought by Spanish authorities. However, the fact that the reported marriage occurred during an international manhunt has raised questions about how Smyth was able to legally marry without alerting authorities - particularly given that he was named in international arrest warrants at the time. Under Spanish law, marriage between a suspect and their partner could potentially offer legal benefits. Spousal privilege protects certain communications between married couples from being used as evidence in court. However, such privileges are limited and not absolute. Following his arrest, Smyth was returned to Spain in March and is currently being held in a remand facility in Badajoz, a city in the Extremadura region near the Portuguese border. Court proceedings remain closed to the public in accordance with Spanish judicial norms, and details of the case remain limited. A second man, Michal Maly, a Czech national, was also arrested in connection with the killing. He was taken into custody on January 10, shortly after Mr George's body was found, and remains on bail while under investigation for being an alleged accomplice. Mr George's family had reported him missing after he failed to board a scheduled flight back to Belfast on December 18, four days after he was last seen. His disappearance prompted increasing concern until the grim discovery was made weeks later. The investigation remains ongoing.
