Eid al-Adha in 2025: Octa broker's charity projects

Zawya2 days ago
KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA - Media OutReach Newswire - 4 July 2025 - Each year, Octa, a globally regulated and trusted broker since 2011, supports local communities in various regions through charity to foster social growth. In 2025, the broker carried out a series of charity activities in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nigeria to celebrate a major Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha and help the underprivileged by providing targeted vital support.
The feast of sacrifice
For Muslims around the world, Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important holidays of the year. It coincides with the final rites of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and commemorates the sacrifice of the prophet Ibrahim.
Highlighted in the Islamic calendar among the most prominent celebratory occasions, Eid al-Adha is traditionally marked with devout Muslims buying and slaughtering animals and sharing two-thirds of the meat with the poor.
This year, the festivities, including a special prayer followed by the sacrifice of an animal, took place between 5 and 9 June.
This year, Octa broker joined in the celebration of 'The Feast of Sacrifice' and helped underprivileged citizens of Indonesia, Malaysia, and Nigeria.
Malaysia
Octa traditionally teamed up with Azeehan, the broker's long-time charity partner and the driving force behind many local initiatives, to distribute the Qurbani meat in Kelantan. Thanks to this humanitarian effort, several hundreds of underprivileged local citizens received the much-needed festive food. 'Octa broker has been supporting local communities during the Eid al-Adha for three years in a row. This consistent participation and care have been very helpful in bringing people together and building up the festive spirit during the Feast of Sacrifice, a very special and joyous occasion for all Muslims', said Azeehan.
Indonesia
Together with IDEP, Octa supported 37 single mothers across Bali as a part of the Family Bucket Project. Single mothers in Bali face significant economic and social challenges rooted in unstable incomes, inadequate labour protection, and vulnerable living conditions. They often struggle to meet even their basic needs and those of their children, while insufficient education and professional skills further hinder their access to employment in Bali's tourism-dominated economy.
These challenges become even more pronounced during Eid al-Adha, when single mothers must work even harder to provide the best they can for their children. Octa and IDEP distributed targeted support packages to 37 single-mother households in Bali to help them enjoy the holiday.
Octa's partner in this project, IDEP develops and delivers practical programs and public education activities to communities in need all over Indonesia.
Nigeria
Octa joined forces with a local charity, KIR (Keeping it real) foundation, to support two socially beneficial initiatives.
1. Training 15 young small business owners of the city of Port Harcourt in digital literacy skills. Local entrepreneurs lacked rudimentary information and communication technology skills, severely restricting their ability to scale up their businesses and affecting their financial outcomes. Octa and KIR foundation organised this charity training to empower business owners and propel them towards success in the modern, technology-driven world.
2. Training 15 young women in vocational skills. To provide local young women with easy-to-pick-up and in-demand career opportunities, Octa and KIR foundation organised free week-long workshops in basic makeup artistry and headgear craft. These skills will allow them to earn a living and strengthen their social status.
Keeping true to its mission of benefiting local communities in various regions, Octa consistently engages in various charitable activities. For example, during the New Year holidays, the broker sponsored an emergency support program in Malaysia to help victims of a severe flood.

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO Plc) Becomes the 1st Financial Services Institution in West Africa to Achieve Listing and Trading of its Ordinary Shares on the London Stock Exchange

Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO Plc) ( Africa's leading and most profitable Financial Services Group, has recorded a significant milestone in its growth and expansion journey with the successful admission of its Ordinary Shares to the Equity Shares (International Commercial Companies Secondary Listing) category of the Official List of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and to trading on the main market for listed securities of the London Stock Exchange. This historic achievement makes GTCO Plc, the 1 st Financial Services Institution in West Africa to dual list its Ordinary Shares on both the Nigerian and London stock exchanges, and subject to certain criteria, it is expected that the Shares will be transferrable between the two exchanges. The admission follows the successful pricing of its fully marketed offering (The Offering) on the London Stock Exchange to raise gross proceeds of $105million in exchange for 2.29 billion of new ordinary shares in the company, which was supported by a strong book of high-quality, long-term institutional investors. Concurrent with the Offering, the Company also gave notice of its intention to cancel the listing of its existing GDRs on the certificates representing certain securities (depositary receipts) category of the Official List of the United Kingdom Financial Conduct Authority ('FCA') and the admission to trading of GDRs on the London Stock Exchange's main market for listed securities. Building on the momentum of the successful first tranche of its equity capital raise programme in July 2024, which secured ₦209 billion, GTCO will deploy the proceeds from the Offering to strengthen its capital base, meet its recapitalization target, and fund strategic expansion across high-growth markets and priority sectors within and outside Nigeria. It is expected that Admission and unconditional dealing in the Shares will become effective on or before 8.00 a.m. (UK time) on 9 July 2025 under the ticker 'GTHC'. Following the cancellation of the GDRs listing, the Company intends to change the ticker symbol for the Shares from 'GTHC' to 'GTCO' and will issue a separate announcement in due course to that effect. Commenting on the LSE Listing, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc, Mr. Segun Agbaje, said: 'Today marks a major milestone—not just for GTCO, but for the future we see for African financial institutions on the global stage. We are incredibly proud to be the 1 st Financial Services Institution in West Africa to list our ordinary shares on London Stock Exchange's main market for listed securities, and even more honored by the trust placed in us by the investing community. For us, this was not just about raising capital. It was about validating the strength of our franchise, the clarity of our strategy, and the discipline with which we execute.' He further said; 'I would like to thank everyone who made this possible—our advisors and legal teams, our longstanding shareholders, the regulators both in Nigeria and in the UK, as well as the Nigerian government for creating an environment that supports our bold ambition and vision to be Africa's leading financial services institution.' GTCO's fully marketed offering attracted long-term institutional capital, reflecting investor confidence in the Group's fundamentals, governance, and strategic outlook. It also signals improving market sentiment, buoyed by ongoing economic reforms by the Federal Government and a return to traditional orthodox monetary policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria, which have gone a long way to stabilising the macroeconomic environment and gradually restoring investor confidence in Nigeria's long-term prospects. Distributed by APO Group on behalf of Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc. About GTCO Plc: GTCO Plc is one of Africa's leading financial services institutions with a longstanding track record of strong growth, service excellence, and shareholder returns. The Group operates across banking, payments, asset management, and pension administration in eleven countries, including Nigeria, the UK, and key African markets.

Nigeria: MTN, 9mobile partner on national roaming to boost seamless connectivity

In a deliberate approach to strategically redefine Nigeria's telecom landscape for seamless customer experience, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc and Emerging Markets Telecommunications Services Limited (9mobile) have officially announced a landmark rollout of their national roaming agreement, which has been approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). In a joint press conference organised by the duo held at L'eola Hotel, Mobolaji Bank-Anthony, Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, this three-year agreement enables 9mobile subscribers to roam seamlessly on MTN Nigeria's extensive network. As a result, it significantly extends 9mobile's coverage and enhances service quality for its customers. The partnership signifies a shift towards greater industry collaboration, aligning with the NCC's vision for a more inclusive and efficient digital ecosystem. Beyond infrastructure sharing, this agreement promotes greater operational efficiency, stronger connectivity, and an improved user experience. It also paves the way for deeper collaboration between the two telecommunications companies, particularly through a proposed spectrum leasing arrangement. Under this agreement, 9mobile will lease its 900MHz (5MHz) and 1800MHz (15MHz) bands to MTN for three years, which will further strengthen MTN's network capacity and service quality. 'This partnership marks a bold resurgence for 9mobile,' said Obafemi Banigbe, CEO of 9mobile. 'It empowers us to meet the needs of our customers, particularly the youthful and enterprise users, by consistently delivering high-quality service as we roll out city by city in the coming weeks.' Banigbe also acknowledged the leadership of Dr Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, for enabling such progressive industry collaboration, as well as Dr Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, for advocating a resource-efficient, consumer-first telecom ecosystem. 'In today's telecom environment, access is more strategic than ownership,' Banigbe explained. 'Access to infrastructure has become more important than outright ownership. Instead of duplicating networks, we are investing in access that is commercially viable and sustainable. 'Network infrastructure typically accounts for 70–75 per cent of an operator's costs, and savings in this area mean we can reinvest in innovation and customer experience. 'At 9mobile, our mantra is simple: build infrastructure where necessary, share it where possible,' he concluded. Dr Karl Toriola, CEO of MTN Nigeria, described the agreement as a milestone for the sector. 'This collaboration underscores our commitment to industry innovation, customer-centricity, and support for the NCC's goal of a fully connected Nigeria,' said Toriola. 'It reflects our shared value philosophy, prioritising partnerships that benefit the entire ecosystem.' Toriola also commended Dr Tijani's efforts in promoting meaningful collaboration as a key driver of digital access, service quality and nationwide inclusion. This pioneering agreement sets a new benchmark for infrastructure sharing in Nigeria. It exemplifies how competitors can work together to address systemic challenges, reduce redundancies, and collectively transform the industry—ultimately delivering broader coverage, better service, and faster access to emerging technologies for Nigerian consumers. Nigeria: Keyamo commissions modern airport terminal

The Sokoto State Government has commissioned a newly reconstructed airport access road and a modern VIP terminal building at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto, as part of ongoing efforts to reposition the state as a key gateway in Nigeria's aviation and economic landscape. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony on Thursday, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his unwavering commitment to infrastructural renewal and praised the quality of leadership exhibited in the state. 'This is not my first time in Sokoto; I was here last year to commission the Hajj terminal,' Keyamo recalled. 'What I see today is clear evidence that you have a governor who knows what to do and has a bold vision for his people.' The minister emphasized that the projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the current administration's policies have empowered governors to exceed expectations. 'As I drove through the newly reconstructed road, I said to myself: Sokoto is fast becoming a gateway to the nation,' he stated. 'With the kind of leadership I have seen here, I am confident that this state is on solid footing.' Governor Ahmed Aliyu, while speaking at the event, revealed that the airport and its access road were in a deplorable state for several years, following an abandoned contract by the previous administration. He noted that his government re-awarded and completed the projects with a focus on quality and long-term impact. According to him, the road reconstruction and beautification were completed at a cost of ₦1,264,516,255.50, while the construction of the state-of-the-art VIP terminal building was executed at ₦1,501,116,683.48. 'We are building a new Sokoto — one that can compare not only with other cities in Nigeria but with modern cities across the world,' the governor declared. The Sokoto airport infrastructure development initiative took a further leap as Governor Aliyu announced the commencement of a new terminal project, with the foundation-laying ceremony performed by Minister Keyamo. The new terminal, he said, will feature cutting-edge equipment and meet global standards. Governor Aliyu used the occasion to express the state's firm support for President Tinubu, assuring that the people of Sokoto remain solidly behind his administration and reform efforts. The event was attended by top government officials, traditional leaders, aviation stakeholders, and members of the public, all of whom applauded the state's transformation agenda. The Sokoto airport infrastructure development stands as a model of visionary governance and federal-state collaboration, reflecting a shared commitment to modernization and economic growth. With continued investments like these, the Sokoto airport infrastructure development is expected to position the state as a vital transportation and commercial hub in Northern Nigeria.
