Kartavya Bhavan embodies resolve to fulfil nation's dreams, says PM
The ambitious project is aimed at bringing ministries and departments under one roof for efficiency.
Kartavya Bhavan-03, the first to be inaugurated, will house the Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum & Natural Gas ministries, and the Principal Scientific Adviser's office.
Many key ministries currently function from ageing buildings like Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan, Udyog Bhawan, and Nirman Bhawan, constructed between the 1950s and 1970s, which are now "structurally outdated and inefficient," according to the government.
The Union Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry has plans to construct ten buildings as part of the Common Central Secretariat under the government's Central Vista redevelopment project.
Two under-construction buildings, 2 and 3, are scheduled to be completed by next month, while construction work on CCS 10 will be finished by April next year.
The project of CCS buildings 6 and 7 will be completed by October 2026.
On Tuesday, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that offices functioning from the four bhawans will shift to four new locations on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Minto Road, and Netaji Palace temporarily for two years, while the construction is carried out.
A few buildings are currently proposed to be retained.
These include the National Museum, National Archives, Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan (External Affairs Ministry), and Dr Ambedkar Auditorium, which are new buildings. Vanijya Bhawan will also be retained.
Under the Central Vista redevelopment plan, the government has already constructed a new Parliament building and the Vice President Enclave, and redeveloped the Kartavya Path that spans from Vijay Chowk to India Gate.
Besides the Common Central Secretariat, the government will also construct an Executive Enclave that will house a new Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Cabinet Secretariat, India House, and National Security Council Secretariat.
Under the second phase of the Executive Enclave, a new Prime Minister's residence will be constructed.

2 bullet cartridges found at Red Fort
Two old bullet cartridges and a circuit board were recovered from the Red Fort premises on Friday during an advanced combing operation by security agencies, police officers aware of the matter said. The discovery comes just eight days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the nation from the fort on Independence Day. The Red Fort has been under the control of security agencies since mid-July. A first information report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Arms Act was registered at Kotwali police station against unidentified persons, and investigators are now trying to determine how these items made their way into the heavily guarded monument, police said. The Red Fort has been under the control of security agencies since mid-July, with public access shut from around July 15 as part of heightened security measures in the run-up to August 15 – when PM Modi is scheduled to hoist the Tricolour and address the nation from the ramparts of the historic Mughal-era fort. Deputy commissioner of police (north) Raja Banthia confirmed the registration of the FIR and said investigations were underway. According to one officer, who asked not to be named, the cartridges – one 9mm and another .315 calibre – were found near the fort's western wall. 'They appeared old and partially rusted. The bullets have been sent to a forensic lab to determine how long they had been there and whether they had been used,' the officer said. The circuit board may have been part of older lighting equipment used during previous events at the fort. However, investigators are not ruling out the possibility of sabotage or mischief, the officer added. This incident follows at least two other security concerns reported from the Red Fort in the past week. In one case, members of the Delhi Police's Special Cell reportedly carried a dummy bomb into the Red Fort during a surprise security preparedness drill. The dummy device passed through a door-frame metal detector without being detected, prompting the suspension of seven police personnel posted at the spot. A senior officer said the lapse raised concerns about the effectiveness of security deployment at the site. In another incident earlier this week, five Bangladeshi nationals were caught attempting to enter the Red Fort using forged identity documents.

Cabinet clears ₹42K-crore for LPG subsidies
New Delhi The Union cabinet on Friday approved ₹42,060 crore under two separate heads for supplying cheaper cooking gas to about 330 million Indian households, including 103.3 million poor families in the current financial year. Cabinet clears ₹ 42K-crore for LPG subsidies The cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved ₹30,000 crore budgetary support to state-run oil marketing companies for providing subsidised cooking gas to the middle-class households (in the past) and ₹12,060 crore to continue supporting the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in FY26, information and broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. 'PM Ujjwala yojana is globally recognized as one of the biggest examples of inclusive growth,' he said, adding that the scheme involved a total expenditure of ₹52,000 crore till 2024-25 since it was launched by the Prime Minister in 2016. As approved on Friday, the scheme will provide targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to nine refills per year to the beneficiaries in 2025-26. PMUY consumers would have the option to buy smaller cylinders of 5kg, with proportionately pro-rated subsidy. The other expenditure of ₹30,000 crore pertained to compensation to the three public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) – Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) -- to make up their revenue losses incurred on the sale of cooking gas (also called domestic LPG) to Indian households. 'The distribution of the compensation within the OMCs will be done by the ministry of petroleum and natural gas. The compensation will be paid in twelve tranches,' an official statement issued by the Cabinet said. Domestic LPG cylinders are supplied at regulated prices to consumers by the three public sector OMCs. The government insulates consumers from fluctuations in international LPG prices. As high international LPG rates were often not passed on to consumers, it led to significant losses for the three OMCs. 'Despite the losses, the public sector oil marketing companies have ensured continuous supplies of domestic LPG in the country at affordable prices,' the statement added. This compensation will allow the OMCs to continue meeting their critical requirements such as crude and LPG procurement, servicing of debt, and sustaining their capital expenditure, thereby ensuring uninterrupted supply of LPG cylinders to households across the country, it added. This step also underlines the Government's commitment to protect consumers from volatility in global energy markets while maintaining the financial health of these PSU OMCs. It also reaffirms the objective of ensuring the widespread availability of clean cooking fuel to all consumers of domestic LPG, including those under flagship schemes like PM Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), the statement said. PMUY was launched in May 2016 with an objective to provide a LPG connection to adult women from poor households across the country. As on July 1, 2025, there are about 1103.3 million PMUY connections across the country, the statement said. India imports about 60% of its LPG requirement.

The plan is proposed to be executed under the formula of 'one-booth-ten-youth'—meaning 10 young workers per booth. With UP comprising around 1.65 lakh polling booths, the strength of new workers could potentially rise by at least 16 lakhs. "A formal blueprint of the plan is scheduled to be laid out in the next few days," asserted a senior functionary in UP BJYM. During a recent organisational meeting attended by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the party leadership pressed on the need of enrolling at least 100 youth in every booth and around 15,000 youth in each assembly seat. This, experts said, was part of a booth-level micromanagement—a strategy the BJP mastered since its galactic rise under Prime Minister Narendra Modi since 2014. The focus on the 18–30 age group means tapping into first-time voters and those who may not yet have a strong political allegiance.
