UN warns of 'unprecedented decline' in world fertility rates; Reveals the key factor responsible for the trend
You're in for some grim news. The United Nations has issued a stark warning regarding the fertility rate worldwide. According to a new report by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN agency for reproductive rights, global fertility rates are experiencing an "unprecedented decline. " The agency has taken its strongest line yet on fertility decline, warning that hundreds of millions of people are not able to have the number of children they want, citing the prohibitive cost of parenthood and the lack of a suitable partner as some of the reasons, signaling a demographic shift that could reshape societies, economies, and policies worldwide. What happened? UNFPA surveyed 14,000 people in 14 countries about their fertility intentions. One in five said they haven't had or expect they won't have their desired number of children. The countries surveyed - South Korea, Thailand, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Brazil, Mexico, the US, India, Indonesia, Morocco, South Africa, and Nigeria - account for a third of the global population. They are a mix of low, middle, and high-income countries and those with low and high fertility. UNFPA surveyed young adults and those past their reproductive years. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo As per Dr Natalia Kanem, head of UNFPA, who told the BBC, "The world has begun an unprecedented decline in fertility rates." What are the findings? According to Dr Kanem, "Most people surveyed want two or more children. Fertility rates are falling in large part because many feel unable to create the families they want. And that is the real crisis." The survey, which is a pilot for research in 50 countries later this year, is limited in its scope. When it comes to age groups within countries, for example, the sample sizes are too small to draw solid conclusions. However, some findings are clear. In all countries, 39% of people said financial limitations prevented them from having a child. The highest response was in Korea (58%), the lowest in Sweden (19%). In total, only 12% of people cited infertility - or difficulty conceiving - as a reason for not having the number of children they wanted to. But that figure was higher in countries including Thailand (19%), the US (16%), South Africa (15%), Nigeria (14%), and India (13%). Experts' take: As per demographer Anna Rotkirch, who has researched fertility intentions in Europe and advises the Finnish government on population policy, quoted by the BBC, "Calling this a crisis, saying it's real. That's a shift I think." She added, "Overall, there's more undershooting than overshooting of fertility ideals." Anna has studied this at length in Europe and is interested to see it reflected at a global level. She was also surprised by how many respondents over 50 (31%) said they had fewer children than they wanted. As per Prof Stuart Gietel-Basten, demographer at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, quoted by the BBC, "This is the first time that [the UN] have really gone all-out on low fertility issues.' Until recently, the agency focused heavily on women who have more children than they wanted and the "unmet need" for contraception. Still, the UNFPA is urging caution in response to low fertility. As per Dr Kanem, "Right now, what we're seeing is a lot of rhetoric of catastrophe, either overpopulation or shrinking population, which leads to this kind of exaggerated response, and sometimes a manipulative response. In terms of trying to get women to have more children, or fewer." Dr Kanem also pointed out that 40 years ago, China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Turkey were all worried their populations were too high. By 2015, they wanted to boost fertility. According to Prof Gietel-Basten, "We want to try as far as possible to avoid those countries enacting any kind of panicky policies." He added, "We are seeing low fertility, population ageing, population stagnation used as an excuse to implement nationalist, anti-migrant policies and gender conservative policies." Factors responsible for the decline in fertility rate: While the decline in fertility rates is a complex issue influenced by a multitude of factors, including societal changes, economic shifts, and advancements in reproductive technologies, key drivers include increased female education, changing societal attitudes towards family size, access to contraception, and rising concerns about infertility due to lifestyle factors and environmental pollution. Here's a more detailed look at the key factors: Socio-economic and cultural factors: Increased female education and workforce participation: Education and employment opportunities for women often lead to later marriages and smaller family sizes, as women prioritize careers and personal growth. Changing societal norms and attitudes: Traditional values emphasizing large families are gradually giving way to smaller, more modern family structures. Economic development and urbanization: As countries develop, the costs of raising children can increase, leading to a desire for fewer children. Greater emphasis on individual aspirations and career goals: Women and couples are increasingly prioritizing their personal and professional goals, leading to delayed childbearing. Access to family planning and reproductive health services: The availability of contraception and family planning resources empowers individuals to make informed choices about family size. Shift in childbearing preferences: Individuals are increasingly choosing to have fewer children or delay parenthood, reflecting changing values and priorities. Health and infertility: Rising cases of infertility: Lifestyle factors (obesity, stress, smoking), environmental pollution, and increased awareness of reproductive health issues contribute to rising infertility rates. Age-related decline in fertility: Both men and women experience a decline in fertility with age, with women's fertility declining more rapidly after the mid-30s. Medical conditions affecting fertility: Various medical conditions, such as thyroid disease, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and endometriosis, can impact fertility. Technological and policy factors: Advancements in reproductive technologies: While these technologies offer hope for infertile couples, they can also contribute to a decline in natural conception rates. Family planning policies and programs: Government initiatives promoting family planning and reproductive health can influence fertility rates. Environmental factors: Pollution and environmental toxins: Environmental pollutants can negatively impact reproductive health and contribute to infertility. Climate change: The effects of climate change can also impact reproductive health and fertility. What can be done to reverse the decline? Reversing the global decline in fertility rates requires a multifaceted approach, focusing on economic stability, social support, and policy changes. While some factors like education and access to healthcare are associated with lower fertility, reversing the trend necessitates creating environments that are more conducive to having children. Here's a breakdown of strategies: Economic stability and opportunity: Promote stable employment and income growth: Economic security is a major factor in family planning decisions. Policies that foster job creation, reduce unemployment, and increase wages can make having children more feasible. Reduce the cost of raising children: Significant expenses associated with childcare, education, and housing can deter families from having more children. Subsidized childcare, affordable housing programs, and tax breaks for larger families can help alleviate these burdens. Social support and family-friendly policies: Extended parental leave: Fully paid and extended parental leave, shared between both parents, can provide families with the time they need to adjust to new parenthood without financial hardship. Access to childcare: Affordable, high-quality childcare options are crucial for working parents who wish to have children. Public and subsidized childcare programs can ensure that families can access the care they need. Supportive community and family networks: Strong social support systems, including extended family and friends, can help parents navigate the challenges of raising children. Programs that connect families with resources and support can create a more welcoming environment for new parents. Addressing societal norms and values: Promote a positive view of parenting: Public campaigns and educational initiatives can challenge negative stereotypes about having children and promote a more positive view of parenthood. Support work-life balance: Policies that encourage employers to offer flexible work arrangements and support work-life balance can help families integrate work and family responsibilities more effectively. Address gender inequality: Gender inequality in the home and workplace can hinder women's ability to pursue their family goals. Policies that promote gender equality in education, employment, and childcare can create more equitable opportunities for all families. Healthcare and reproductive health: Expand access to fertility treatments: Improved access to safe and affordable fertility treatments can help couples who are struggling to conceive. Public health programs can ensure that individuals have access to the care they need to achieve their family goals. Protect reproductive health: Promoting reproductive health education and access to contraception can help individuals make informed decisions about family planning. International cooperation and immigration: Address global inequality: Addressing global inequality and poverty can have a positive impact on fertility rates in developing countries. Increase immigration: Some argue that increasing immigration can help to offset population decline and maintain a stable workforce. Important considerations: The most effective policies will vary depending on the specific context and needs of each country and community. 'One-size-fits-all' solution doesn't work in that field. Moreover, reversing fertility declines is a long-term process that requires sustained effort and commitment. Ultimately, policies should aim to support the well-being of families and individuals, creating environments where they feel empowered to pursue their family goals. Scorpio Moon on Jyestha Purnima 2025: Don't chase external validation
Among all the Purnimas, Jyestha Purnima stands out for its intense and transformative power. Falling in the month of Jyestha — one of the hottest and most spiritually charged months in the Hindu calendar — this full moon is not a gentle one. It is not about love, romance, or dreamy emotions. Rather, Jyestha Purnima is a call to power, truth, and inner strength. In 2025, Jyestha Purnima falls on 11th June, and its timing could not be more symbolic. As the Sun scorches through the sky and the Moon shines at its peak, this cosmic alignment activates deep energies that compel us to look within, rise above illusions, and step into our personal power. This isn't a time to chase external validation — it's a time to reclaim your truth, cut cords with falsehood, and anchor your energy in spiritual integrity. Let's explore what makes this full moon truly unique and how it will impact us all. Jyestha Purnima: The Full Moon of the Eldest Star Jyestha Nakshatra, meaning 'the eldest' or 'most senior,' is the 18th of the 27 nakshatras (lunar mansions) in Vedic astrology. It lies in the sign of Scorpio and is ruled by Mercury, yet its symbolic deity is Indra — the king of the gods. This combination brings with it a complex mix of mental strength, leadership, emotional intensity, and a constant struggle between power and responsibility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Why Didn't Anyone Tell You About This Power Saver? elecTrick - Save upto 80% on Power Bill Pre-Order Undo Jyestha is not a soft or playful nakshatra. It is known for its sharp perception, protective energy, and the ability to see hidden truths. During Jyestha Purnima, when the full moon aligns with this star, we are all called to embrace these traits within ourselves. The Moon in Jyestha pushes us to shed emotional shallowness and confront what's really going on beneath the surface. It can bring hidden matters to light, unearth secrets, and guide us to emotional maturity. This is not a moon for escape. It demands courage, self-respect, and spiritual evolution. Those who are ready to take responsibility for their own growth will find Jyestha Purnima empowering and deeply liberating. Why This Full Moon Isn't About Love & Light We often associate full moons with beauty, romance, celebrations, and connection. And while many full moons support emotional bonding and love, Jyestha Purnima is not one of them. This is a moon that shines a light on power dynamics, inner truth, and the shadow self. Jyestha is associated with depth, intensity, and sometimes isolation. The Moon here isn't interested in surface-level joy. It wants you to dig deeper, uncover suppressed emotions, and release illusions. If you've been living in denial or clinging to toxic attachments, this full moon may trigger confrontations or awakenings that are difficult but necessary. This is a moon that might feel uncomfortable because it demands honesty — especially with yourself. It brings clarity, not comfort. Yet, through this clarity comes freedom. Relationships that are based on manipulation or power struggles may come into the spotlight. Situations that are draining your strength may reach a breaking point. This isn't a time to ignore the truth. Instead, it is a divine opportunity to reclaim your voice, your space, and your authentic self. Cosmic Alignments: Jyestha Moon and the Scorpio Vibration In 2025, Jyestha Purnima will occur with the Moon in Scorpio, a sign known for emotional depth, secrecy, and transformation. Scorpio is a watery sign, but unlike the calm waters of Pisces or the nurturing tides of Cancer, Scorpio's water is intense, magnetic, and full of mystery. It governs the subconscious mind, desires, fears, and rebirth. When the Moon is full in Scorpio, especially in Jyestha Nakshatra, we may experience emotional waves that seem overwhelming at first. Old traumas, regrets, and unresolved pain may resurface. But this is not to hurt us — it is to help us heal. With Mercury's influence, there is also a need for mental clarity and communication of truth. You may find yourself saying things you've been holding back. Or you may receive insights that help you make important decisions. What you speak under this moon can manifest quickly — for better or worse. Spiritual Significance: A Time for Tapasya & Shakti In Indian tradition, Jyestha Purnima is considered an auspicious time for tapasya (austerity), spiritual practice, and self-purification. Many people observe fasts, visit temples, or engage in rituals to honor divine feminine energies like Ganga Devi and Durga. Jyestha is also connected to Shakti, the raw feminine power that dwells within all of us, regardless of gender. This Shakti is not about softness — it's about strength, sovereignty, and spiritual fire. Under this full moon, many seekers perform Shakti Sadhana to invoke this energy within themselves. The blessings of the divine feminine are more easily accessed when one approaches with sincerity, courage, and inner discipline. This is a perfect time to disconnect from worldly distractions and tune into your higher self. Meditation, mantra chanting, and inner silence can reveal hidden knowledge. Jyestha Purnima supports not just spiritual rituals but spiritual transformation — the kind that changes your core and makes you unshakable from within. Truth Will Rise: The Shadow Comes to Light Every full moon brings things to light. But Jyestha Purnima takes this a step further. It brings the shadow into the light — the parts of ourselves we suppress, deny, or fear. This can feel like an emotional purge. You may cry, feel restless, or experience unusual dreams. All of this is part of the release process. You may become more aware of power games in your relationships, workplaces, or even within your own mind. The illusions we hold on to — such as control, image, or ego — may begin to crumble. And though that can be uncomfortable, it is also liberating. This is the full moon to sit with your truth. To accept all parts of yourself, including the messy, complicated ones. Jyestha gives us the courage to look directly into the mirror of the soul and say, 'I see you. I honour you. I'm ready to grow.' Practical Ways to Use Jyestha Purnima Energy While the cosmic energy is powerful on its own, we can work with it consciously for deeper benefits. During Jyestha Purnima, take time to engage in practices that support truth, healing, and empowerment. Sit in silence under the moonlight. Journal your deepest thoughts. Perform rituals for ancestral healing. Offer water to sacred rivers or in your own home altar to honour the flow of divine wisdom. Avoid gossip, distractions, and superficial conversations. Instead, turn inward and nourish your spiritual self. Fasting, mantra chanting (especially for Durga, Kali, or Shiva), and reading scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita can also align you with higher frequencies. The more you purify your inner world, the more powerful and peaceful you will feel. How It Affects Zodiac Signs While the full moon affects everyone, it will be especially intense for those with prominent placements in Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius. If you have your Moon, Sun, or Ascendant in these signs, you may feel the pull of transformation more deeply. However, every sign can benefit by tuning in to the message of this moon: face your truth and claim your power. Cancer and Pisces may feel spiritually uplifted and emotionally awakened. Virgo and Capricorn may get clarity in their professional life. Aries and Sagittarius may experience shifts in their relationships. Libra and Gemini may be pushed to release emotional baggage. No matter your sign, Jyestha Purnima is asking you: 'Are you willing to rise above the old and step into your higher self?' Love and Relationship Horoscope for June 11, 2025
Aries: Today, your words carry more power than usual. In matters of love, tone might be as important as content. In other words, in a relationship, speak with kindness—even when words are at odds. While in a state of being single, kind words could open a wonderful new door to friendship. Do not allow frustration to guide your words. Calm expression fosters emotional safety; love thrives when grown in easy conversation. Kind words spoken today can heal an angry silence. Taurus: Today needs attention on all the tiny little things- checking in, showing affection, listening wholeheartedly. If in a relationship, your partner will see your efforts shining through; for singles, invest in a few worthy people. Do not expect love to just appear out of nowhere. Love strengthens when warmth is given gently and consistently; whatever you water today will blossom tomorrow. Stay present and patient—your love story builds itself on daily deep caring. Gemini: Today, your charm will draw people's attention, but it's the follow-through that truly matters. If you're attached, be honest with your partner and refrain from saying things just to be heard. If you're unattached, ensure that your actions align with your words. Attraction is a very powerful feeling, but in the absence of intent, it dies a quick death. Love isn't just wanting or desiring someone; it's choosing that person and showing up for them. Cancer: You feel deeply, and that is your strength for today. If you're in a relationship, be open about what truly matters to your heart. Honesty can heal an individual and foster closeness. If you're also singing the blues, don't shy away from showcasing trap-softening beauty. Being real wounds a path toward real bonds. People feel safe with those who do not fear to display their emotions. Open yourself gently; today, your vulnerability would be a path toward deeper love. Leo: Today, focus on how love feels, rather than how it looks. There is no need to perform or create perfect moments to deserve affection. Being in a relationship means seeking comfort rather than display. Being single means looking for calmness instead of compliments. Real love is quiet, steady, and safe, with no need for someone's eyes to be on it. Let go of the pressure to prove your worth in love. Choose peace over drama today: the right person will love you as you are. Virgo: As the one usually holding things together today, don't hesitate to ask for emotional support without shame. Another person will support you if you ask for comfort, and it will not make you appear weak. If single, remind yourself that needing affection does not make you needy. It makes you human. An ideal love will never shame you for wanting to feel safe. Talk to yourself with kindness about your feelings—today, it is your turn to receive gentleness. Libra: If love has been confusing or far away lately, today offers the chance for a new beginning. A kind word, a brave conversation, or a subtle mental shift can alter the energy of the entire situation. If you're in a relationship, one genuine act can rekindle the connection; if you're single, one leap of faith toward someone else—or yourself—may open the door. Do not wait for a perfect time. Love often begins with one small, courage-based decision. Scorpio: Today, if you stand for respect, then your emotional strength will shine. To slow down and reflect on situations where someone pushes too hard, withdraws too much, or crosses limits is essential. In any case, if in a relationship, state your truth calmly and strongly; if single, refuse love at the cost of peace. Real love will never try your patience or override your limits—rather, it will protect them. Stand tall for what you require today. Sagittarius: The world may find your energy glimmering today, attracting someone who very much may feel like a mirror to your soul. If you've entered into a relationship, you may feel like the other person could see right through you more than ever before—don't brush this feeling off. And if you're single, stand ready: Someone will pass you by and stir not just your heart but your very soul. Don't look for someone to be perfect; search for feeling. Capricorn: Today, love may not be demonstrated through words or gestures but through quiet, consistent expressions of attention. If you are in a relationship, the smallest act of checking in on each other or simply sharing a period of silence can be more meaningful than any big gesture. If you're single, just see who consistently shows up for you; that's where genuine interest lies. Today, seek the kind of connection that stays with you in silence. Aquarius: Today, it feels like something will have to be said, but wait a moment. Are you speaking to feel loved, or speaking from that love? If in a relationship, then share your thoughts gently and with care. If single, express interest and not desperation. It's in honesty, not emptiness, that love hears your words best. Never rush to fill a silence with words; permit your heart to guide you instead of fear. Today, your message will always be well-received if it comes from a calm source. Pisces: Today, you may be assessing the hurt that once befell you from the vantage point of more loving understanding and forgiveness. Now the pain no longer merely weighs you down; it uplifts and educates you. When you're in a relationship, such healing fosters understanding; when single, your soft heart has somehow strengthened instead of diminishing. Coming to fully receive is as much a part of love as wholeheartedly giving. ---------------------- Neeraj Dhankher (Vedic Astrologer, Founder - Astro Zindagi) Email: info@ neeraj@ Url: Contact: Noida: +919910094779 Choose sun sign to read horoscope
