Hakim Danish targets KWASN grant with strong season start
SEPANG: Young national rider, Muhammad Hakim Danish Ramli, needs to take up the challenge of achieving as many positive results as possible this season to unlock the 'key' to the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN) grant from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
SIC chief executive officer, Azhan Shafriman Hanif said the Terengganu-born rider's career path certainly requires a lot of funds and his team is also working on this matter, including promoting him to the wild card slot in the MotoGP competition.
'It's still early days for the Rookies Cup race, he's only just finished the first round of the race with a double podium finish, so we hope he can maintain his positive momentum until the end of the year.
'SIC will also try to find funds to enter him in the MotoGP in Sepang as a wild card rider,' he said after being met at the Malaysia Touring Car Championship press conference at SIC here today.
Azhan Shafriman revealed that SIC has received approximately RM4 million in funds, but it is still not enough to cover the rider's needs to compete in the championship he is participating in.
SIC is also working on funds to cover the needs of another talented rider, Qabil Irfan Azlan.
Previously, Minister of Youth and Sports Hannah Yeoh announced that Danish Hakim will have the opportunity to enjoy the grant facility as support for his career journey if he achieves positive results in the two championships he will be participating this season.
The Junior GP World Championship and MotoGP Rookies Cup are the arenas for the 17-year-old rider, who is under the management of SIC.

Hakim Danish dedicates Aragon win to all Malaysians
KUALA LUMPUR: Motorcycle racer Hakim Danish Ramli is on track to becoming the first-ever Malaysian to win the Red Bull Rookies Cup title. With the season nearing the halfway mark, Hakim consolidated his position atop the championship standings after winning his first race of the season in Aragon, Spain (race two) yesterday (June 8). The 17-year-old now has 125 points to his name. Spanish duo Brian Uriarte (95 points) and Benat Fernandez (63 points) are second and third in the championship. Hakim dedicated his victory in Aragon, Spain to all Malaysians. Uriarte (+0.188s) and David Gonzalez (+0.195s) finished second and third in race two. "Obviously I'm really happy to win the race as it was quite challenging," said Hakim. "My tyre grip was fading so I had to manage it carefully and try my best to remain patient while staying with the lead group. "On the second last lap I made a mistake and forgot to downshift one more gear. I got overtaken and went down to seventh position. "I quickly focused on catching up and during the last corner was able to get on the throttle earlier and hit the line first. "Thank you to everyone who has supported me, this win is for all Malaysians." With four rounds and eight races remaining this season, the championship fight is far from over though Hakim's consistent performances this season will put pressure on his rivals. The Terengganu-born finished second in all his first five races of the season before winning yesterday. The Red Bull Rookies Cup is one of the key feeder series for the Moto3 World Championship. Former champions in the series who have gone on to shine include Johann Zarco, Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta, among others Last month Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chief executive officer Azhan Shafriman Hanif disclosed that Hakim essentially has a seat waiting for him in Moto3 next season but must first prove himself worthy of the slot. Hakim is a product of SIC's two-wheel talent development programme which is run by ZK Racing. Mugello will host the next round of the Red Bull Rookies Cup on June 21-22.

Marquez's brother Alex finished second for Gresini Racing while Marc's teammate Francesco Bagnaia came third as Ducati bikes swept the podium. Marc had completed the perfect weekend last year to win his first race in 1,043 days at the same circuit and he repeated his feat as the pole sitter and sprint winner claimed a record-extending seventh MotoGP victory at the track. Such was Marc's dominance this weekend that he became the first rider in 10 years to lead every session – including warm-ups, practice and qualifying – since he did it himself at the German Grand Prix in 2015. 'It was an amazing weekend. Leading all the practices, full focus, just full concentration,' said Marquez, who now leads Alex by 32 points in the championship. 'As I expected, the others got closer and closer every session. In the race, the pace of Alex and Pecco (Bagnaia) was super fast, but it was consistent. (I was) just controlling the race distance. 'And the celebration together with my brother was amazing. The best way to come back with full Ducatis in the top.' The two Marquez brothers also danced arm-in-arm in front of the home fans sitting in a special stand dedicated to Spain's fastest brothers on two wheels. The younger Marquez sibling was soon looking over his shoulder to see Bagnaia eating up the distance between them while KTM's Brad Binder crashed in fifth place, leaving the crew chief of the struggling team fuming in the pit lane. But Alex quickly found his rhythm to stay in second while Bagnaia fended off Acosta to prevent an all-Spanish podium. Bagnaia, who is third in the championship, now sits 93 points behind Marc.
