I tried own-brand Twister ice lollies – the supermarket winner impressed my kids and cost £1.29 a pack
A PACK of ice lollies is a must in every parents' freezer over the summer.
And the h umble Twister has long been a family favourite, regularly topping polls as one of our top choices.
6
However a pack of six will now set you back around £3, depending on where you shop - and they're tiny!
The Walls' lollies are 20ml smaller than most of the supermarket own brands.
But how do they stack up on taste? Lynsey Hope investigates...
Walls Twister Mini
6
I loved the flavour of these. They are a real unusual mix of strawberry, lemon and pineapple - but it works.
They are quite unique and they also have ice cream rather than just pure lolly which elevates them above many of the own brands.
They are not too sugary and low in fat so they are a great option for smaller children.
But my 10-year-old would huff at this as it's so tiny. Costing nearly 50p each, you really don't get much for your money.
Taste: 5/5
Value: 3/5
Overall score: 8/10
Asda Fruit Spiral Lollies
£1.38 for 5, Asda (27.6p each)
Nutrition per lolly: 46 calories, less than 0.5g fat, 8.5g sugar, less than 0.01g salt
Size: 70ml
A brilliant size, these look really impressive and they were quite refreshing on a hot day.
However, whilst they cooled me down I felt they were a bit lacking in flavour.
These need a fruity boost to make them more appealing. Sadly, although a wallet-friendly price, they weren't anything special.
Taste: 3/5
Value: 3/5
Overall score: 6/10
Tesco Fruity Helter Skelters
£1.29 for 5, Tesco (25.8p each)
Nutrition per lolly: 48 calories, 0.2g fat, 9.6g sugar, 0.04g salt
Size: 70ml
These looked almost identical to the Asda lollies but they contained a tiny bit more juice and tasted a little fruitier.
The kids were impressed - they were among the first to be grabbed from the ice cream draw.
They are a good size and not too high in sugar. They are slightly better value than Asda too, costing just over 25p each.
Plus, they didn't melt too quickly and were really refreshing in the warm weather with a lovely fruity taste.
These are a great choice overall and my winner from this test.
Taste: 4/5
Value: 5/5
Overall score: 9/10
M&S Super Loop Lollies
£2.50 for 5, Ocado (50p each)
Nutrition per lolly: 49 calories, 0.1g fat, 9.5g sugar, 0.01g salt
Size: 50ml
A delicious mix of orange, pineapple and strawberry flavours, I loved these and they looked really pretty, if a little small.
The fruity flavours were delicious and refreshing to eat. Sadly they are a bit pricey at 50p per lolly, which makes them more expensive than Walls and they are the same mini size.
I'd have given them a better rating if they were a bit bigger. Nevertheless, they were devoured in seconds.
Taste: 4/5
Value: 3/5
Overall score: 7/10
Aldi Gianni's Fruit Spiral Lollies
£1.29 for 5, Aldi (25.8p each)
Nutrition per lolly: 54 calories, 0.1g fat, 11g sugar, 0.02g salt
Size: 70ml
Aldi 's spiral lollies tasted a lot fruitier than other options, with delicious notes of orange, pineapple, apple and lemon.
The colours were appealing and they were a good size AND an even better price, costing just over 25p each.
They did contain some glucose syrup to sweeten them up a bit but I have to say I did like the flavour.
Lovely, bargain lollies and a great option for feeding the masses.
Taste: 3/5
Value: 5/5
Overall score: 8/10
How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you'll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M's scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you'll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.

Love Islander's secret connection to former star revealed
LOVE Island newbie Dejon Noel Williams is getting ready to start his villa adventure – and thankfully he has a famous pal who may have been able to provide him some tips. The 26-year-old personal trainer from London was one of the first stars to be announced today for this year's Love Island, heading off to Mallorca in the hopes of finding some romance. 6 6 6 But before the show kicks off next Monday, The Sun can reveal that he already has a connection to a successful past contestant. Dejon's father, Gifton Noel-Williams, at one point was a professional footballer signed to Watford from 1996 to 2003. During this time, Gifton was teammates with Micah Hyde, the father of Love Island 2023 finalist, Tyrique. Tyrique found love in the villa with Ella Thomas, eventually placing third and staying with Ella for a year before their split. Gifton and Micah played alongside each other throughout their respective time at Watford, being shown as solid pals on the pitch. Tyrique and Dejon are also the same age and have played football like their dads. As childhood friends, Dejon now trains Tyrique, with the pair sharing gym videos together on Instagram. Dejon is open about his famous dad, saying ahead of entering the villa: "I've met all kinds of famous people through him. "When I was younger it was weird because he was just my dad, but we'd go to a game and fans were asking for photos. " He says he's looking for a girl in the villa who "is beautiful on the inside and out, looks after themselves and is healthy". Ten Years of Love Island Maya Jama will be back to welcome the new gang into the villa for the ultimate summer of love. The Sun revealed exclusive photos of the new-look Majorcan villa, which promises to deliver some of the show's biggest twists yet. Dejon is not the only islander with a famous connection, with fellow star Tommy Bradley revealing he has a famous boxing brother, Jamie, who trained with Anthony Joshua. Love Island starts Monday at 9pm on ITV, ITV2 and ITVX. 6 6 6

Jodie Marsh weeps in court after being told she can keep lemurs at her animal sanctuary
TV personality Jodie Marsh wept in court yesterday after she was told she can keep lemurs at her animal sanctuary. She had appealed against a council's decision to refuse her application for a wild animal licence. 2 Concerns had been raised about her taking a meerkat to the pub. Former glamour model Marsh, 46, said trolls were behind much of the criticism of her sanctuary in Lindsell, Essex. At a previous hearing, clips of screeching zoo lemurs were played to Chelmsford magistrates' court. But Judge Christopher Williams dismissed the council's argument about the animals' noise. He said Marsh was passionate about the care and treatment of the animals under her supervision. The judge added: 'The decision by Uttlesford District Council was wrong and continues to be wrong. I allow the appeal.' The former Page 3 girl has traded her hard-partying lifestyle for hands-on work at her own animal sanctuary in Essex. In a recent interview with The Sun, Jodie referred to herself as a farm girl and a "mess". In a further self-deprecating comment, she added that she was "fat but happier than ever". Despite her contentment, she lives with "anxiety/depression, aches and pains" and is using CBD oil to improve her daily wellbeing. Jodie Marsh gives health update after saying she's 'fat but happier than ever' now she's quit glamour modelling The model-turned-bodybuilder- who put her huge country pile on the market last year - said: "You might recognise me as someone that used to be glamorous, sexy, a bodybuilder and everything else, but now I'm just a farm girl and I look a mess." 2

Oasis star Noel Gallagher's Bentley goes on sale for £1.2 million
Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher's red 1997 Bentley Turbo R has gone on sale priced at £1.2 million. The four-door saloon car listed on Auto Trader was previously owned by the 58-year-old, despite the fact he cannot drive, once telling Zoe Ball on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show that he gave up learning after being mobbed by children when he was told to park close to a school for a lesson. Speaking about the sale, Erin Baker, editorial director at Auto Trader, said: 'Cars listed by music legends don't come around very often, and Noel Gallagher's Bentley Turbo R is certainly one for the Auto Trader history books. 'With over 80 million visits to Auto Trader every month, we expect this rock 'n' roll ride to strike a chord with music lovers and car collectors alike.' The car also has the number plate 'OASI6 2', in reference to his Britpop band, who will reunite to play a run of gigs this year in the UK and Ireland, featuring stops at Manchester's Heaton Park, London's Wembley Stadium, and Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium, throughout July, August and September. Despite not being able to drive, Gallagher was ordered to pay a court £1,000 and was handed six penalty points in April 2023, for failing to tell police who was driving his Range Rover, when it was clocked speeding at 41mph on a 30mph stretch of the A40 in Edgware Road, West London. Speaking about his driving lesson in the 1990s, Gallagher told Ball in 2023: 'I have had one driving lesson in the 90s and I was driving round a housing estate in Slough and she (the instructor) said to me, 'if you just indicate and pull over here' then I pulled over. 'She got out the car she said, 'I'll be back in a minute', she came out with her mum, she drove me to her house. 'Then the local comprehensive bell went and they all came out. 'This is at the height of Oasis-mania and I was like, 'never, never again'.' Gallagher began his career in the 1990s with Oasis, who he formed alongside his brother singer Liam Gallagher. The band has gone on to have eight UK number one singles and eight UK number one albums, and is best known for songs such as Wonderwall, Rock 'N' Roll Star and Live Forever. The guitarist formed the High Flying Birds after Oasis's initial break-up in 2009, who have gone on to have four UK number one albums.
