Defence to finish cross-examining hockey player at ex-teammates' trial

Defence lawyers are expected to finish cross-examining a former member of Canada's world junior hockey team today at the sexual assault trial of five of his ex-teammates.
Brett Howden, who now plays in the NHL for the Vegas Golden Knights, began testifying by videoconference last Tuesday at the trial of Michael McLeod, Alex Formenton, Carter Hart, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote.
All five of the accused have pleaded not guilty to sexual assault, and McLeod has also pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of being a party to the offence of sexual assault.

Day 20: Cross-examination focuses on Hart's actions, Howden's memory in junior hockey sexual assault trial
The charges stem from an encounter that took place in a London, Ont., hotel room in the early hours of June 19, 2018.
At the time, many members of the 2018 national world junior team were in town for a series of events celebrating their championship win.
Howden has testified that he was in the hotel room with several other players for a period of time that night, but does not remember many details of what happened.

Metrolinx has previously said that the public would be given a three-month notice before the line opens and that the company was pushing towards a 2025 opening date. The LRT spans a 19-kilometre route from Mount Dennis in the west to Kennedy Road in the east. Driver training has been ongoing on the route since last September. 'I will have to get back to you on the exact date but I understand it will be handed over to the TTC in the next couple weeks,' Ford said Tuesday.

Driver charged with careless driving after crash on Hwy. 401 in Kingston

Ontario Provincial Police responded to a call for a crash in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near the Joyceville Road interchange just before 5 p.m. Monday. Police say a large cargo truck collided with the back of a car. 'Traffic was slow in the area due to road work,' the OPP said. No one was hurt. Police say as a result of the investigation, a driver of one of the vehicles has been charged with careless driving.
