Goodwill gala showcases Hope in Bloom in Finger Lakes
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Friday, the Goodwill of the Finger Lakes hosted their 2025 Goodwill Gala. This year's theme was 'Hope in Bloom.'
Emceed by News 8's Adam Chodak, the event helped celebrate the impact Goodwill's community-based programs have had throughout Rochester and the Finger Lakes.
The organization's biggest fundraiser of the year helped to raise money for programs such as 211 Lifeline, Goodwill Vision for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Goodwill Learning Academy, and the Good Neighbor Program.
'We can't do it without our Goodwill shoppers and donors every day of the week, but tonight is such a special night to really understand all the hope, that comes from our community programs, but just everyone in this room is phenomenal. We're really grateful,' Goodwill Finger Lakes President and CEO Jennifer Lake said.

ESPN's Stephen A Smith floats hypothetical Ukraine-Russia strategy if he were president
Stephen A. Smith had a tough question put onto his lap during Wednesday's edition of "First Take" – would he rather be president of the United States or the next New York Knicks head coach? Smith had to think about it as he's floated the possibility of running for president and has added his voice to some of the hot-button political issues debated in that particular arena. But the Knicks also fired Tom Thibodeau and have a position open. The ESPN personality didn't necessarily like the idea of working under Knicks team owner James Dolan and said he may like to be president more than the next head coach for the team in orange and blue. "Can you see Stephen A. trying to negotiate the Ukraine-Russia situation?" Chris "Mad Dog" Russo asked. "I wouldn't try to negotiate it. I would work with the European Union. I would work with the United Nations. I would do what I could to empower us. I don't want to give Ukraine unlimited funds, but I know that Russia's ultimate quest is to recapture Europe and I don't want that to happen. Therefore, I would help out Ukraine." Russo applauded Smith but hedged on going any further in the political realm. Smith told ABC News in April that he had no choice but to consider a presidential run. "I have no choice, because I've had elected officials — and I'm not going to give their names — coming up to me. I've had folks who are pundits come up to me. I've had folks that got a lot of money, billionaires and others, that have talked to me about exploratory committees and things of that nature. I'm not a politician. Tom Felton to Reprise Draco Malfoy Role in ‘Harry Potter' on Broadway
Tom Felton, who rose to fame as Draco Malfoy in the 'Harry Potter' film franchise, is reprising his role as the boy wizard's blond archnemesis in the Broadway production of the show, for a limited engagement beginning in November. He will be making his Broadway debut with his turn in 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' — his first return to the character in 15 years — and will be in the show through March, according to a news release. Felton said in a statement on Wednesday that being part of the Harry Potter films had been one of the greatest honors of his life. 'Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in 'Cursed Child' this fall, I'll also be the exact age Draco is in the play,' he said. 'It's surreal to be stepping back into his shoes — and of course his iconic platinum blond hair — and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world.' The Broadway show takes place 19 years after the original series ended. Draco is now a father, and all grown up with Harry, Ron and Hermione, send their children to Hogwarts. Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, producers for the show, said in a joint statement that Draco left an indelible impression on Harry Potter fans around world and that Felton's return to the franchise will offer Potterheads a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see him again. 'This moment is powerful on many levels,' they said, adding that the moment was charged with nostalgia, evolution and emotion. 'Tom's return to Hogwarts bridges generations of fans and breathes new life into a beloved story.' Since appearing in the 'Harry Potter' films, Felton has acted in the 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' and 'A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting' movies. He also made his West End debut in 2022, as the star of '2:22 A Ghost Story.'
