Manuel Akanji weighs up future as Galatasaray hit Manchester City's £15m valuation of Treble winner
Manuel Akanji is debating his future after Galatasaray hit Manchester City 's valuation of the defender. The Turkish champions want to land Akanji as well as City goalkeeper Ederson, while also holding long-standing interest in Ilkay Gundogan. Galatasaray are willing to meet the £15million required to land Akanji, who does also have interest from elsewhere ahead of the transfer window closing on September 1. The Switzerland international joined City from Borussia Dortmund for £15m three years ago, becoming an integral part of their Treble success. Pep Guardiola wants to trim the numbers in his squad this month and currently has nine defenders at his disposal. Six of those can play centrally and Akanji's competition at right back, Rico Lewis, is set to sign a new five-year contract after attracting interest from Nottingham Forest. Akanji, 30, is assessing his options and will be allowed to determine next steps. Both he and Gundogan were unused substitutes for the opening day victory at Wolves last weekend. Guardiola claimed that the squad remaining its current size would be unhealthy for team morale over the coming months. Meanwhile, exciting attacking midfielder Claudio Echeverri has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a season-long loan. Vitor Reis, Jack Grealish, James McAtee and Maximo Perrone have all moved on either on loan or permanently.
