KL hotel offers culinary escape to Sabah
This unique culinary collaboration with senior sous chef Daniel Anselmus from Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu brings authentic Sabah food to the capital city.
Anselmus' menu tells the story of his Sabah homeland rooted in nature, heritage and tradition.
Pinasakan Ambuyat, a staple in Kadazan-Dusun homes.
Inspired by the land and shaped by time-honoured methods like fermentation, pickling and slow cooking, every dish offers a deep sense of place.
Ingredients such as river fish, forest vegetables, wild herbs and native fruits come together in a harmonious expression of Sabah's culinary heritage.
Some of the signature dishes served include Ayam Kodop Bambangan, a rich combination of kodop (wild forest mushrooms) and bambangan (fermented wild mango), served with tender chicken. The dish is pungent, tangy and deeply local.
There's also Pinasakan Ambuyat, a staple in Kadazan-Dusun homes – fish stewed in takob-akob (a wild fruit) until savoury and soft.
It's best eaten with ambuyat, a thick sago-based starch meant to be dipped and twirled.
Daging Masak Lengkuas Tuhau is beef slow-cooked with galangal and tuhau, a native wild ginger known for its sharp, citrusy kick – a dish with true Sabah character.
Ayam Bakar Madu Penampang is marinated chicken baked with native aromatics and served with a soy-chilli dipping sauce, making it a sweet and smoky treat.
Linopot is a heritage rice dish featuring wild steamed rice (naig tidong), wrapped in leaves and served with traditional accompaniments such as tuhau, lousun (wild shallots), bambangan and Ayam Kodop Bambangan.
It is a dish that is rustic, portable and full of depth.

Danaos Corp (DAC) Q2 2025 Earnings Call Highlights: Strategic Growth Amid Market Challenges
Release Date: August 05, 2025 For the complete transcript of the earnings call, please refer to the full earnings call transcript. Positive Points Danaos Corp (NYSE:DAC) has added approximately $113 million to its contracted revenue backlog, increasing its total contracted revenue base to $3.6 billion. The company maintains a strong charter coverage with 99% for 2025 and 88% for 2026, providing significant insulation from market fluctuations. Danaos Corp (NYSE:DAC) has a strong balance sheet with minimal leverage, allowing for strategic capital allocation and long-term success. The company has declared a dividend of $0.85 per share and has $94.3 million remaining authority for stock repurchases under its $300 million share repurchase program. Danaos Corp (NYSE:DAC) has secured a new vessel on a 5-year charter, ensuring visibility and attractive returns. Negative Points Adjusted EPS for the quarter decreased to $6.36 per share from $6.78 per share in the same quarter of 2024, reflecting a decline in adjusted net income. Total operating costs increased by $24.7 million, primarily due to an increase in the average number of vessels in the fleet. There was a $3.6 million increase in net finance costs and a $2.7 million decrease in dividend income from investments. Revenues in the container segment decreased by $8.2 million due to lower contracted charter rates. Interest expenses increased by $4.3 million due to higher average indebtedness, despite a reduction in the cost of debt service. Q & A Highlights Warning! GuruFocus has detected 6 Warning Sign with META. Q: Can you provide an update on the charter market and the demand for your vessels, particularly regarding the ships rolling off charter soon? A: (CEO, Dr. John Gusta) The market is stable with demand for all ships. Many ships have options, so there's limited action we can take. Most ships for this year are already fixed, with minimal activity for next year. We see interest in newer ships for 2027 delivery, and we don't expect significant changes in the market for the second half of 2025. Q: How are you approaching capital allocation, especially regarding the share buyback program? A: (CEO, Dr. John Gusta) We paused the buyback as the stock appreciated significantly, which could have driven the price up too much. We are cautious about chasing the market upwards, especially with potential corrections in the broader stock market that could affect shipping companies. Q: With the increase in operating costs due to more ships, is this a new run rate, or should we expect a return to prior averages? A: (CFO, Mr. Evangelos Hazis) The increase is circumstantial due to bulk orders in the second quarter, and we expect it to normalize as we progress through the year. Q: What are your expectations for feeder ships, and how do you see the lower order book impacting the market? A: (CEO, Dr. John Gusta) A shortage of ships can provide a tailwind, but long-term contracts for feeders are hard to secure without low rates. With increased fuel costs, there is a trend towards upsizing services for economies of scale, which could reduce demand for feeders. Q: How did you manage to secure a prompt delivery for your recent new build scheduled for 2027? A: (CEO, Dr. John Gusta) It was due to our relationship with the shipyard. They adjusted their schedule, and we were the first approached for the available berth, allowing us to quickly conclude a new contract and charter the vessel. Apple announces additional $100 billion in US investment, following Trump iPhone tariff threat
Apple (AAPL) announced plans to invest an additional $100 billion in US manufacturing commitments ahead of a press conference scheduled with President Trump at the White House Wednesday. The move follows Apple's prior $500 billion investment in US spending, which includes working with partners to build an AI server plant in Texas. Apple says that the $100 billion announcement includes its new American Manufacturing Program (AMP), which the company says will incentivize global companies to build critical components in the US. The tech giant says its first AMP partners will include Corning, Coherent, GlobalWafers America, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments, Samsung, GlobalFoundries, Amkor, and Broadcom. As part of the investment, Apple is making a $2.5 billion commitment to produce all of the cover glass for its iPhones and Apple Watches at Corning's Harrodsburg, Kentucky, manufacturing facility. The two companies will also work to open an Apple-Corning Innovation Center at the plant to help develop and engineer materials and next-generation manufacturing platforms for future Apple products. Apple also says it has entered into a multi-year agreement with Coherent to produce lasers for its Face ID feature for the iPhone and iPad. The company is also touting what is says is a end-to-end American silicon supply chain, which includes sourcing silicon wafers from GlobalWafers in Sherman, Texas, for use in American chip factories, working with Applied Materials to increase production of semiconductor manufacturing technologies, and getting semiconductors from Texas Instruments. Apple is further teaming up with Samsung to work on new chip making technologies at its plant in Austin, Texas, as well as with GlobalFoundries and Amkor for bring more chip manufacturing and packaging to the US, respectively. Apple's news comes after the Trump administration began pressuring the tech giant to manufacture its iPhone in the US, going so far as to threaten to impose a 25% tariff on the devices if the company didn't comply. Apple's announcement also comes as the company prepares for a new 25% tariff on goods destined for the US from India. That's in addition to an existing 25% levy Trump previously said he would apply to the country's products. Apple builds the majority of the iPhones headed to the US in India, after diversifying its supply chain beyond China following the COVID-19 pandemic. The company still produces iPhones for the rest of the world in China. Trump has repeatedly criticized Apple for building its iPhones abroad, with the administration saying the company should instead bring its manufacturing facilities to the US. In May, Trump said he "had a little problem with Tim Cook," while discussing the company's decision to build US iPhones in India. But industry experts say doing so would be a Herculean task even for Apple, due to a lack of available skilled workers and limited supply chain resources in the country. Even if those factors weren't an issue, it would take years to complete construction of an iPhone plant, at which point Trump would no longer be in office. During its most recent quarterly earnings report, Apple said it took an $800 million hit due to existing tariffs and anticipated an additional $1.1 billion in related costs in its current quarter.
