As NHL free agency looms, one of the league's most talked-about storylines centers around veteran winger Brad Marchand. After a decade-plus as the heart and soul of the Boston Bruins, Marchand was traded during the 2024-25 season to the Florida Panthers—only to help them win their second consecutive Stanley Cup.
Now, with free agency opening on July 1, the 36-year-old forward is a hot commodity once again.
Bruins and Leafs expected to make strong pitches as Panthers look to retain Brad Marchand
Despite finding instant chemistry with the Panthers, Marchand hasn't re-signed in Florida, opening the door for multiple teams to step in. According to respected TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, both the Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs are eager to speak with Marchand if he tests the open market.
'As we wait to see Brad Marchand's decision with Florida, several teams including Boston and Toronto hope to talk to him come Tuesday when the market opens, if he doesn't re-sign with the Cup champs.
The Bruins would certainly be open to bringing him back. But again, perhaps Marchand re-signs in Florida,' LeBrun posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The Bruins have plenty of room to maneuver financially, boasting over $23 million in cap space—an edge they hold over both the Maple Leafs and Panthers, who are more limited by the salary cap.
Not everyone agrees that a Brad Marchand-Boston reunion makes sense
While the story of Marchand returning to the Bruins would be poetic for fans, some NHL insiders remain skeptical about the move's practicality.

Veteran hockey reporter Jimmy Murphy dismissed the notion outright: 'I would be stunned if Brad Marchand signed back with the #NHLBruins. Makes no sense for either side right now,' Murphy shared in response to LeBrun's report.
Boston appears to be headed into a soft retool centered around David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, and Jeremy Swayman. Whether Marchand fits into that long-term vision remains to be seen.

Jonathan Owens wins hearts with impactful youth camp as Simone Biles quietly supports from the sidelines

Jonathan Owens youth camp impact (Image credits: Instagram/X) NFL safety Jonathan Owens returned to his roots, not to be celebrated, but to give back. His free youth football camp, hosted at his alma mater, wasn't about fame or fanfare—it was about presence, purpose, and passing on lessons he once needed. As dozens of kids ran drills, Owens ran with them. The impact wasn't loud, but it was deeply felt. From NFL player to on-field mentor What separated this camp from countless others wasn't the structure—it was the man leading it. Owens didn't just oversee the stations; he coached every step, often sprinting beside young athletes, guiding form, offering pointers, and encouraging effort. Instagram stories captured him 'instructing with his own hands,' reinforcing that his involvement wasn't symbolic—it was sincere. Parents and onlookers quickly took to social media to express their gratitude. Not with vague praise, but with heartfelt thanks. Owens didn't outsource inspiration; he delivered it personally, with a focus on humility, resilience, and accountability. This wasn't a performance—it was mentorship in motion. Her presence was quiet but meaningful, helping underscore that the camp wasn't about celebrity. American RJ Michelle Mishelae Proctor reflected on the event with joy, writing: '@joowens camp today was amazingly organized and fun for the youth! Thanks for giving back to the kids! Loved seeing wifey @simonebiles showing support! Y'all are too cute.' The couple's team spirit kept the focus where it belonged—on the children. Families applaud Owens for personal investment, not just participation Praise poured in from parents whose children left with more than just goodie bags—they left with belief. One parent shared, 'Thanks for allowing my three boys to be a part of your camp today. They had a great time and learned valuable skills! Continued blessings for you @jowens @cbchighschool.' Another echoed the sentiment in simple but powerful words: 'Thank you @jowens for giving back to the youth today…my kid enjoyed it.' This wasn't just another youth camp—it was a carefully built experience. Supported by the Jonathan Owens Foundation, the event showed how authenticity and effort can outshine flash. IND vs ENG Test: 'They cannot afford to go 2-0 down' - England fast bowler advises India to play Jasprit Bumrah at Edgbaston

India captain Shubman Gill, left and Jasprit Bumrah speak, during a nets session at Edgbaston, in Birmingham, England, Monday June 30, 2025. AP/PTI(AP06_30_2025_000115A) England fast bowler Mark Wood , who is out of the five-match series against India due to injury, has warned Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Edgbaston Test, starting on Wednesday. "They cannot afford to go 2-0 down. So you want your best bowler," Wood said on the Sky Sports podcast. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "There's no way he's saying, 'I'm not playing at Lord's.' I don't think so. I think he'll want to play both games," predicted Wood. "Even if, let's just say, India win the next one and it's 1-1, I still think they'll want him to make the difference, to get them ahead. I think every overseas bowler wants to get on that board, and he'll be the same," he added. Former England captain Michael Atherton echoed Wood's view that Bumrah would love to play the third Test at Lord's, but at the same time said India must play left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav . "They have got a decision to make over Bumrah, first of all, because every overseas player wants to play in a Lord's Test," said Atherton. Bumrah & Gambhir Locked In! What's Cooking at Edgbaston? "The Lord's Test is three days after Edgbaston. "In cricketing terms, he should certainly play at Edgbaston, and I'd think very carefully about Old Trafford, because that's the kind of ground where pace and reverse swing are really important. But as you say, every cricketer wants to play at Lord's and get on that honours board. "I do think they should play Kuldeep Yadav. I think had they had Kuldeep in their team, they would have won that game at Edgbaston." Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.

Sacramento Kings land veteran guard Dennis Schröder as Pistons pull out of free agency shuffle

Dennis Schröder. Image via: Alonzo Adams-Imagn Images The Sacramento Kings have made a strong backcourt move in NBA free agency, signing veteran point guard Dennis Schröder. The deal comes as the Detroit Pistons shift direction, pulling out of talks with Schröder and losing out on one of their most reliable midseason additions. Sacramento, coming off a 40–42 season, adds much-needed leadership and stability at the guard position while Detroit reshuffles. Dennis Schröder exits Detroit quietly, finds fresh opportunity with Sacramento Kings in free agency shake-up Dennis Schröder's NBA journey continues as he joins the Sacramento Kings, his 10th team since entering the league in 2013. The signing, reported by The Athletic's Fred Katz, ends any chance of a return to Detroit, where Schröder had quietly become a key contributor. After being acquired midseason from Golden State in the Jimmy Butler deal, he quickly settled in as Cade Cunningham's backup. He was averaging 10.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 5.3 assists across 28 games. Though not flashy, Schröder's consistent presence helped the Pistons secure a playoff spot, and his impact didn't go unnoticed. With his exit, the Pistons' backcourt rotation takes a hit. While Jaden Ivey is expected to return to full health and resume his role, the loss of Schröder's experience and steady hand will be felt. Detroit has attempted to fill the gap by signing veteran guard Caris LeVert on a two-year, $29 million deal, per reports. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Discover Hotel and Restaurant Management Programs in Asia LocalPlan Search Now Undo However, LeVert's injury history and position flexibility make him a different kind of contributor. Meanwhile, Detroit has paused talks with Malik Beasley amid off-court concerns and faces uncertainty with Tim Hardaway Jr.'s future. Pistons president Trajan Langdon had hoped to retain all three guards—Beasley, Hardaway Jr., and Schröder— but plans shifted quickly. As for the Kings, adding Schröder not only plugs a hole left by trading De'Aaron Fox to the Spurs but also gives Sacramento a chance to rebound from its first losing season in three years. With a seasoned floor general now in the mix, Sacramento's backcourt may have just found the direction it needed.
