Brighton 3 West Ham 2: Baleba screamer snatches dramatic last-gasp win after hosts trailed 2-1 with just MINUTE to play

The Sun26-04-2025

CARLOS BALEBA last-gasp 30-yard rocket heaped more misery on Graham Potter who was booed at his old stomping ground.
West Ham are now without a win in TWO MONTHS as Baleba won it at the death on 92 minutes to add to Kaoru Mitoma's 89th minute equaliser.

The Hammers couldn't quite believe their eyes as up to Mitoma's leveller, they had been on the cusp of a precious win after a woeful recent run of form.
Tomas Soucek found the net with an 83rd-minute diving header in front of the boisterous Hammers fans, who had been giving ex-Brighton boss Potter jip all game.
They had been chanting in support of Niclas Fullkrug and his outburst after the club's woeful loss at struggling Southampton last time out.
Fans were singing "The German's right, we're f***ing s***e" and "get the German on the pitch" as they showed their support for Fullkrug.
The chants came after an early 12th minute wonder strike from Yasin Ayari which was then cancelled out by Mohammed Kudus on 48 minutes to give the Hammers a glimmer of hope.
Ayari looks as though he will be a monster next season and he broke the deadlock with a rocket strike which melted into the top corner like a knife in butter.
Alphonse Areola had no hope of stopping the screamer - which no goalkeeper in the world could stop.
Brighton were at it again and a pinball machine-like series of passes fell to Matt O'Riley who drilled a low shot but it was scooped up by Areola.

Up the other end Bart Vebruggen leapt like a salmon to keep out a bullet header from Tomas Soucek which kissed the woodwork.
Brighton looked like they had inflicted more misery on the Hammers when Simon Adingra appeared to have doubled the lead, but it turns out Mats Wieffer was offside in the build up and VAR concurred with referee Darren England's decision.
'Give Fullkrug the manager's job' - West Ham star launches expletive-laden rant at team-mates for 'not playing football'
All eyes were on Fullkrug, who came on after the break for James Ward-Prowse following his fiery outburst and subsequent ticking off from Potter in the aftermath.
Queue chants of "Big f***ing German, he says what he wants" aimed at the struggling Hammers players.
The players took it in their stride though and Jarrod Bowen threaded the ball through a pile of Brighton defenders, to Mohammed Kudus who fired home from the edge of the six-yard box.
That was Bowen's 36th assist for the Hammers - no West Ham player has managed more in the Premier League.
Fabian Hurzeler was left with his head in his hands over his side's questionable defending.
Brighton were knocking on the door as a string of menacing crosses fell into the box, with Ayari nearly slotting home before he lost his footing.
Local lad Hinshelwood also had a go, sending a shot dipping and curling just over the crossbar.
West Ham hit back though as a pinpoint delivery fell to Soucek who guided the winning header on smack bang in front of a boisterous away end.
But it was all square again when Brajan Gruda headed the ball back across the face of goal and Mitoma was there in the six-yard box to nod past Areola.
The Seagulls were 2-1 down just moments before but a moment of magic from Baleba put them in front as the ball soared into the top corner, giving Ayari a run for his money.

Arsenal dealt blow as Nico Williams responds to Bayern Munich approach

Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has told Bayern Munich he is 'very open' to joining them this summer, according to reports in Germany. Arsenal and Chelsea have Williams on their shortlist for the summer transfer window with both Premier League clubs wanting to strengthen in wide areas. Williams was one of Spain's standout stars at Euro 2024 and finished this season with 11 goals and seven assists for Bilbao, who finished fourth in La Liga to secure a place in next season's Champions League. Bayern Munich have also entered the running to sign Williams having lost Leroy Sane, who arrived in Turkey on Wednesday ahead of his move to Galatasaray on a free transfer. According to Sky Germany, Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, and sporting director, Christoph Freund, have held talks with Williams' representatives. It's also claimed that Williams himself has told Bayern that he is 'very open' to joining them this summer. Bayern, however, will need to pay the €58 million (£48.1m) release clause in Williams' deal with Bilbao, as well as meet the 22-year-old's salary demands, which are understood to be in the region of €380,000 (£322,000) a week. More Trending Speaking in April, Williams gave no indication that he would push for a move away from Bilbao this summer. 'I'm super happy here and feel well,' the winger said. 'I've always wanted to feel important here.' Bilbao have also been in talks with Williams to extend his contract, which expires in the summer of 2027. Jonny Evans makes surprise announcement on future after Man Utd release him

Jonny Evans has been released by Manchester United and the defender remains uncertain about what could come next in his career when he leaves the Red Devils this month Jonny Evans is in no rush to make a decision on his future after it was confirmed he would be released by Manchester United. The defender is set to see his contract expire at the end of the month with no renewal forthcoming. But despite the 37-year-old being firmly in the twilight of his career, no official announcement on a retirement has arrived, though he is expected to do so. The Northern Irish defender is set to reflect on his situation before making a decision over his next steps. ‌ Evans is set to end his second spell at Old Trafford having returned to the club in 2023 to take on a senior role in the dressing room and to provide additional depth in United's backline. The veteran probably played more than anticipated making 30 appearances in his first season back to see his contract extended by a further year. ‌ Evans was called upon less frequently last term in a difficult season and joins the likes of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof in exiting the club. Tom Heaton remains in discussions over potentially extending his stay. It had been suggested Evans' departure could mark the end of his career, after Evans noted 'It was stay here or retire' last summer. The defender is yet to make plans however. "I'm not sure yet," Evans told BBC Sport NI when asked about his future . "I'll take a bit of time. I don't feel like I'm in a rush to do anything." In his eight years away from Manchester, Evans spent three years at West Bromwich Albion and five years at Leicester. The central defender added an FA Cup victory in 2021 to three Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cup success across his two stints with the Red Devils. Evans earned 107 caps for Northern Ireland and provided some analysis on where the nation stands during his appearance on BBC. The ex-Sunderland loanee is hopeful his former boss, Michael O'Neill can lead the country to World Cup qualification. ‌ "When you've got Michael O'Neill in charge, he gives everyone a little bit of hope," said Evans, "He's taken the team to a major tournament before and if you want anyone in charge, it's him. "When I look at this team it reminds me of ourselves. He's playing five at the back and he has Isaac Price, he's on a good run of form. "You look throughout the team, you see Dan Ballard and Trai Hume getting promoted, they'll be playing Premier League football and that'll only be good for the team. I'm excited. Over the next couple of years I think we'll see them progress together." Join our new MAN UTD WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Manchester United content from Mirror Football. AC Milan hit 'problem' in talks to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal

AC Milan have begun talks to sign Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to reports in Italy. The Ukraine international started just five Premier League games for Mikel Arteta's side this season and his campaign has once again been disrupted by a calf injury. With the rapid rise of Myles Lewis-Skelly in the first team, Arsenal are open to selling Zinchenko this summer. According to Sky Italy, AC Milan have already made an approach for Zinchenko as they are in the market to replace Theo Hernandez, who has turned down a move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and is in talks to join Atletico Madrid. AC Milan have yet to reach an agreement over a fee with Arsenal, while Zinchenko's £150,000-a-week salary is also an issue for the Italian side, who finished eighth in Serie A this season. Zinchenko has made 91 appearances for Arsenal following his £32 million move from Manchester City three years ago. Elsewhere, reports in Portugal claimed on Wednesday that Arsenal have held fresh talks with Viktor Gyokeres' agent over a deal for the Sporting CP striker. More Trending CNN Portugal and Portuguese newspaper Record reported on Wednesday evening that Arsenal's hierarchy met with Gyokeres' representative, Hasan Cetinkaya, on Wednesday and an official offer from the Gunners is now expected. CNN Portugal reporter Nuno Farinha said: 'Arsenal are the club that Gyokeres has wanted from the very beginning. 'Gyokeres wants to play for Arsenal, he has stated this desire very openly to his agent. 'Officially, there has not been an offer yet, but there have been many contacts.
