Rain submerges roads, disrupts life in Khagaria

Time of India02-06-2025
Khagaria: A short spell of heavy rain late on Sunday evening paralysed normal life in Khagaria town which turned into a pool of water, filth and slush with waterlogging on roads, bylanes besides a number of localities of the town.
Power supply also remained disrupted till late night.
Deprived of basic civic amenities like good roads and functional drainage system, the residents have to suffer daily.
The rain has made life miserable for the residents of Station Road, Rajendra Nagar, Chitragupta Nagar, Bharati Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Jaiprakash Nagar of the town. The condition on sadar hospital premises is the worst where the pedestrians have to wade through ankle-deep water.
Due to the waterlogging in the playground, the district administration had to postpone the physical test for the recruitment of home guards scheduled on June 2.
Most of the roads have turned into virtual death traps as a number of potholes and ditches have appeared on several roads making it difficult for vehicles and pedestrians to negotiate.
"Neither the district administration nor people's representatives pay any attention to find a permanent solution to this perennial problem," alleged Arbind Kumar Singh, a retired teacher of the local Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Khagaria.

SMP records 22% surplus rainfall during monsoon

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has experienced a fortunate monsoon season so far, recording a 22% surplus in rainfall from June 1 to Aug 19. Showers were evenly distributed across the state, with only five districts experiencing rain deficiencies, while the remaining districts received normal or surplus rainfall during the monsoon period, which extends from June 1 to Sept 30. From June 1 to Aug 19, Madhya Pradesh recorded 811 mm of rainfall, compared to the normal 663.7 mm for the same period, marking a 22% increase. Meteorological officials note that for the entire monsoon period from June 1 to Sept 30, 990 mm of rainfall is considered normal for the state, and 1,090 mm is the yearly normal rainfall for Bhopal. While the state overall received 22% more rainfall than normal so far, Bhopal received 757.5 mm of rain against the normal 669.2 mm from June 1 to Aug 19, resulting in a 13% surplus. Meteorological officials explain that, according to the general formula, a variation of 20% less or more rainfall is deemed normal. However, they emphasise that adequate rainfall is necessary to fill the deficit in areas where the rainfall shortfall exceeds 20%. The districts experiencing a rainfall deficit of 20% or more include Dhar (22% less), Indore (40% less), Khandwa (21% less), Shajapur (34% less) and Ujjain (30% rain deficit). by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The shortfall may be addressed if strong weather systems impact the state in the coming weeks. According to the meteorological department, July and Aug are typically the months when Madhya Pradesh receives a significant amount of rain, while rainfall activity decreases sharply in Sept, which is considered the tail-end month for the monsoon. However, more widespread showers were expected during the monsoon this year, as the monsoon was projected to be above normal. The monsoon entered Madhya Pradesh on June 16, while the onset of the southwest monsoon was declared over Bhopal on June 18. By June 20, the southwest monsoon had covered the entire state. The pre-monsoon showers that began on June 1 are also included in the monsoon rainfall. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
