The Masters of the Universe are preparing to master the big screen in 2026 as production has recently gotten underway on the Travis Knight-helmed Amazon MGM Studios/Mattel live-action film.
After Deadline reported his casting in the role of Malcolm/Fisto, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson gave us an update on the production while walking the red carpet at last week's world premiere of Captain America: Brave New World, in which he makes his MCU debut as Copperhead.

'We started prepping in November last year,' said Jóhannesson. 'Filming starts in about a week or so, a couple weeks. Up until now, it's been a lot of weight-lifting and rehearsing, but we're about to get into it, and we've got a really fun script that everyone in the cast loves. So, we can't wait to get on set and perform it.'
In addition to Jóhannesson, Morena Baccarin joined the cast last week as The Sorceress.
The duo joins Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops in the screenplay by Chris Buttler with first draft by David Callaham, and Aaron and Adam Nee.

Plot details are under wraps for the Escape Artists and Mattel Films production. In the 1980s toy line and early 1980s cartoon series, Castle Grayskull is the target of numerous attacks by Skeletor, Hordak and the Snake Men, all of whom believe the secrets inside will allow them to conquer Eternia and the entire universe, thus becoming the Masters of the Universe. The castle is instrumental in the transformation of He-Man.
Masters of the Universe hits theaters on June 5, 2026.

Thunderbolts* (New Avengers) Got Good Reviews, But It Can't Escape One Startling Box Office Fact
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Friends, it's time for another example of the MCU presenting itself as a 'glass half full/half empty' paradox. With the 2025 movie schedule seeing Thunderbolts* clocking in with some pretty good reactions, including CinemaBlend's Thunderbolts* review, you could say this vibraninum glass is indeed half full. However, those of you thinking the situation looks a bit more on the 'half empty' side will feel potentially vindicated, as apparently the box office numbers are still not looking too hot. Per numbers plucked from Box Office Mojo, the MCU's cinematic finale of Phase 5 is apparently the second lowest grossing picture in the entire lot. Now keep in mind, this ranking is based on the global box office total, and not focusing solely on what *The New Avengers took in at home or abroad. With that total picture in mind, here's the bottom 10 Marvel Studios earners at the global box office, from bottom to top. The Marvels: $206 million Thunderbolts: $359 million Captain America: The First Avenger/Black Widow: $370 million Eternals: $402 million Captain America: Brave New World: $415 million Thor: $449 million Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania: $476 million Ant-Man: $519 million Thor: The Dark World: $644 million Ok, so the good news is that with a couple more weeks of strong finishes, Thunderbolts* could realistically match or surpass the $370 million brought in by the first Captain America film and Black Widow. Also, solely on the basis of director Jake Schreier's $180 million production budget, the movie is basically knocking on the door of grossing double that amount. On the rough guidelines that attempt to account for advertising, as well as other hidden costs that aren't shared with the public, this looks good. Not terrible, but ok. However, this is a Marvel movie; a concept that means a lot more today than it did when Spider-Man and the X-Men were paving the way for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While I can't say for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if this number falls short of internal projections/expectations at Marvel Studios. Those sort of expectations kind of fall into place when you turn your business into the juggernaut that delivered several record breaking Avengers movies that Disney+ subscription holders can revisit at their leisure. Disney Plus + Hulu Bundle: From $10.99 A MonthFor as little as $19.99 a month, you can have the combined worlds present in the Disney+/Hulu Bundle! Ad-free, and ready to show you everything Marvel, Star Wars, and of course Disney, this is the portal to a multiverse of entertainment. Though if you're looking for an ad-supported tier, you can pay $10.99 a month to have the same access - just with commercials. View Deal Perhaps the final word on the matter should be the fact that even in its own corner of potential disappointment, Captain America: Brave New World brought in $415 million worldwide. That puts the Anthony Mackie-starring vehicle closer to the likes of the first Thor, which isn't a terrible place to be. I'm sure that if we sat here and really broke out the domestic vs. international grosses, we'd see some sort of pattern that could point to why we're seeing these sorts of results more often at MCU HQ. And considering the reversal of fortune that saw the phenomenon known as 'Stitchpossible' owning Memorial Day weekend, that's probably what some are doing right now. But these are only numbers, folks. If you're looking to revisit or introduce yourselves to Thunderbolts* (or *The New Avengers, if you're so inclined), you can head to a theater near you and do just that. Those of you concerned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's health, don't fret just yet. Save your worries until after The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuts in theaters on July 25th, because if that tanks, then you can panic!

Bruce Willis 'Found Secret Ways Of Working Through Degenerative Illness,' Wife Reveals In Book
Bruce Willis found ways to continue to work and appear on screen through the beginning of his degenerative illness, his wife has revealed in her forthcoming book. Australian au website reports that Willis's plan to continue working as long as he was able will be detailed in Emma Heming Willis's upcoming book – one she calls 'not a memoir but under the category of self-help' – The Unexpected Journey, due for release in September. More from Deadline Bill Murray Recalls Poignant Moment With Old Friend Bruce Willis On 'Watch What Happens Live' Samuel L. Jackson Reveals Invaluable Advice He Received From Bruce Willis During 'Die Hard With A Vengeance' Shoot Haley Joel Osment Recalls Bruce Willis Would Call "Out Of The Blue" Years After 'Sixth Sense' The Die Hard star announced in February 2023 that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. He had retreated from the spotlight a year earlier due to his deteriorating health. However, according to Heming Willis's book will reveal that her action hero husband had found ways to continue to work on films such as Assassin (2023) and the Detective Knight series (2022-23), having directors reduce his dialogue and employing a trusted friend to feed him lines through an earpiece. The website adds that the actor's deterioration wasn't immediately apparently either on set or on screen, because Willis had always had a slow speech pattern, after having a stutter as a child – something he once told interviewer Michael Parkinson he was able to put to good effect: 'It's how I got my sense of humour, because I realised, yeah I stutter, but I could make people laugh by doing stupid stuff.' Heming Willis shared on Instagram that she had written the book to help others facing her husband's condition, as well as their families. She said: 'I really wrote the book that I wish someone had handed me the day we got our diagnosis with no hope, no direction … not much. Today life looks different for me and our family because I was able to put support into place.' As well as his successful turns in the Die Hard franchise, Willis has enjoyed a string of hit films including Look Who's Talking, The Sixth Sense and Death Becomes Her. He had his breakthrough success in early 1980s TV series Moonlighting, co-starring with Cybil Shepherd as private detectives David Addison and Maddie Hayes. Jac Caglianone is a legit power threat worth adding in fantasy baseball
'By the power of Greyskull, I have the power! — Prince Adam before becoming He-Man Imagine having the ability to raise a sword (or a pen or baseball bat, since we shouldn't assume we all have swords laying around), say a few magic words and become the most powerful man in the universe. You could then transform your cowardly pet into a ferocious beast to help you battle the evil forces of Skeletor … or, you know, give your fantasy squad a boost in power.
