Bhubaneswar: Odisha police have decided to launch an advanced anti-drone system during the Puri Rath Yatra on June 27, said DGP Y B Khurania on Sunday.
The initiative follows a TOI report on April 2 about the govt's plans to equip the police with anti-drone capabilities to combat unauthorised drone operations across Odisha.
"The anti-drone system will debut during Rath Yatra. We are introducing the cutting-edge technology to ensure foolproof security during Rath Yatra celebrations. Thes system will effectively identify, monitor and neutralise any rogue drones in the temple's airspace, which is strictly designated as a no-fly zone," Khurania told TOI after reviewing the Rath Yatra security arrangements in Bhubaneswar.
The DGP said the anti-drone system's deployment is part of comprehensive security arrangements for the major festival that will draw lakhs of devotees, including VVIPs to Puri.
Khurania said that a specialised agency has been contracted to implement the technology. "The system is designed to automatically detect and ground rogue drones while ensuring our authorised police drones remain operational for surveillance purposes," he explained.
The anti-drone system will include radar detection capabilities, radio frequency analysis and optical sensors to identify flying objects within restricted airspace.
"We will use 300 AI-enabled CCTV cameras for security, crowd control and traffic management during Rath Yatra. A mobile application is being developed to help devotees locate parking lots and other police-related facilities. An advanced command and control centre is also being set up for effective monitoring and execution of our plans," the DGP said.
Vinit Agrawal, SP of Puri, emphasised the importance of the security measures. "Given the scale of the festival and its religious significance, we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of all participants. The anti-drone system and AI cameras will add another crucial layer to our security infrastructure," he said.

Non-servitors banned from climbing chariots
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will take stringent legal action, including arrests, against any non-servitor found climbing the chariots during this year's Rath Yatra in Puri, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said on Sunday. He also asserted that use of mobile phones on the chariots will be strictly prohibited. Speaking to reporters, Harichandan said, 'No non-servitor will be allowed to climb the chariots. If any such person is found on the chariot, strong action, including arrest, will be taken. Also, servitors will not be allowed to carry mobile phones onto the chariots.' To ensure the timely completion of rituals and maintain discipline during the 'Pahandi Bije' (the ceremonial procession) of the deities, the government has requested a list of servitors designated to perform rituals on Rath Yatra day (June 27). 'The final list will be enforced strictly,' the Minister said. Meanwhile, DGP Yogesh Bahadur Khurania held a meeting here to review the security measures for the Rath Yatra. The road connecting Uttara Square near Bhubaneswar to Puri will be under CCTV surveillance, and efforts are underway to instal CCTV cameras along the Puri-Konark road as well, the DGP said. For the first time, an integrated command and control centre will be set up at the Puri Town Police Station to monitor crowd movement and traffic. 'AI-enabled CCTV cameras are being installed at key locations in Puri for real-time monitoring,' he said. Traffic advisories will be issued from the control room to guide pilgrims and visitors, he added. Besides, a mobile app has been developed through which people will get information about the route through which they will have the convenience to visit Puri during the festival and park their vehicles, he informed. Along with police personnel, rapid action force, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and specialised agencies will be deployed in Puri for the festival, he said, adding, 'We have requested the authorities concerned for deployment of Central forces.' Drones and an anti-drone system will also be deployed in Puri during the Yatra, he added. Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja visited Puri on Sunday and took stock of the construction of chariots. 'Not out of need, but to rebuild ties': Bengaluru techie uses Swiggy deliveries to meet people, find clients
BENGALURU: In a country where tech professionals usually seek the safety net of salaried jobs after entrepreneurial setbacks, Padmanaban Ebbas (40) is trying something unique in India's start-up capital, Bengaluru. Each evening, he delivers food for Swiggy. But along with each order, he hands out printed flyers advertising his services as a full-stack developer. Late Wednesday, a viral post on X amplified his story. A customer shared Ebbas' flyer, which highlights 19 years of experience in web development, mobile apps, UI/UX design, and machine learning, along with his personal contact details. The post has since been widely shared across India's social media circles, with many impressed by his ingenious approach. Ebbas told TOI that his deliveries are not driven by financial distress, but by a deliberate effort to rebuild business connections. 'I've been moonlighting on Swiggy just to meet people. Everyone has requirements. Directly meeting them helps,' he said. Ebbas completed his engineering degree in 2006 and worked in the IT industry briefly before launching his first startup in 2008. He later took a two-year break and started a tech firm which faced troubles during pandemic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! In India's gig economy, moonlighting as a food delivery worker to generate B2B software leads is almost unheard of. While many former founders transition into salaried corporate roles or consulting gigs, Ebbas' hybrid approach stands out for its directness and risk-taking—physically meeting potential customers while delivering food.
