Farsley Celtic chairman resigns after abuse from supporters
A football club chairman has announced his intention to resign after "months of criticism and negativity" directed towards him, including death threats.Farsley Celtic chairman Paul Barthorpe released a statement on Tuesday evening in which he said the abuse had had a "significant impact" on his health.The managerless National League North outfit have been playing their home games almost 70 miles away from Leeds in Buxton, Derbyshire due to delays in installing a new 4G pitch at their stadium."Having put in so much hard work and money over the last six years for it to be like this really hurts," said Mr Barthorpe.
The statement continued: "I hope this act means there will be more support and more positivity towards the club and the board, as they are all like me volunteers, all good guys and all have the club at heart, and we are all desperate for this to work out."Mr Barthorpe, who has been heavily criticised amid the club's plight on and off the pitch, said there had been a "social media campaign" against him which had included death threats, assaults and criminal damage to his property.In the statement, he also claimed he had been "predominantly" funding sixth-tier Farsley for the last five years.Former Leeds United manager Neil Redfearn was appointed as Farsley boss on 17 January, but told the BBC he left the club on 6 February after just 20 days in charge.This season the club has yet to play a fixture at its home ground, the Citadel.Home games are currently being played in Buxton, which Farsley said was the "only option" after its previous groundshare at Bradford Park Avenue came to an end.Its return to the Citadel has been pushed back on numerous occasions due to delays in resurfacing the pitch, which the club previously said were "unforeseen and unavoidable".Listen to highlights from West Yorkshire on BBC Sounds, catch up with the latest episode of Look North or tell us a story you think we should be covering here.

The million Celtic wingers linked with a transfer to the champions rated and slated
Brendan Rodgers has been credited with an interest in a raft of wide men but who is the most likely to pitch up at Parkhead Brendan Rodgers famously quipped about having a million wingers during his first spell in charge at Celtic. The Hoops boss has had a fair few in his second stint but all of a sudden wide men are thin on the ground at Parkhead. Star man Jota is out of commission until 2026, Luis Palma looks to be on his way out and there are still questions whether Yang Hyun-jun has what it takes to cut it at the club. Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda are the main men – even though Maeda played through the middle for half of last season and James Forrest is still around, of course, but at 34 years old now, a 60-game season is a big ask. and has cast his net far and wide. There might not be a million of them yet, but the Hoops are in the hunt for plenty and here are the names who have shot to the top of the wishlist. Record Sport rates and slates them here... Benjamin Nygren The Nordsjaelland wide man is a hot property in Denmark after an impressive season and breakout performances for the Sweden national side. The 23-year-old was a sensation as a teenager when he burst on to the scene at IFK Goteborg but his big move to Genk didn't quick spark and he spent a couple of seasons in Holland. He's hit the gas again in Denmark though and was a smash hit for Sweden in recent clashes, notching two goals in three games. Nygren is heading into the final six months of his contract and could be picked up for a bargain £2million – although there is interest elsewhere. Michel-Ange Balikwisha The Royal Antwerp attacker was a target last summer before injury halted the move but he remains on the watch list. At 24-year-old, he's got bags of experience in Belgian having previously been at Standard Liege and was a regular for the Red Devils at under 21 level. Balikwisha is heading into the final year of his contract and while Antwerp might be looking for up to £5m, Celts might be able to land him for less. Sondre Orjasaeter The Norwegian under 21 cap came close to joining Celts in January but felt he wasn't ready to make the jump from Sarpsborg. The Hoops haven't gone away though and there's a feeling the time could now be right for the attacker, who can play on either flank or through the middle. Orjasaeter wouldn't come cheap though. Celtic's £4m bid was bounced in January and Sarpsborg are looking to bank up to £7m after a solid start to the season in Norway. Nilson Angulo Celtic scouts have clearly been busy in Belgium land the Anderlecht attacker is another one on the wishlist. The Ecuador international – who turns 22 this month – has been attracting attention from all over Europe after an impressive display against Brazil last week. Angulo is rapid and would give Celts the pace Rodgers loves in his team and although he's stated his desire to stay with Anderlecht and fight for his place, a deal could be done if the price was right. It's thought he could be secured for around £3m – but it would depend on interest from elsewhere. Raul Moro Celtic have been watching the Real Valladolid prospect for a while – but they are not the only ones. Moro was a stand out for the La Liga side during a tough season when they went down and they are looking to cash in. The Spain under 21 star's value has rocketed though – and it could cost at least £8m to get him in the door. Nottingham Forest are also thought to be in the hunt, along with Bournemouth and several sides in his homeland.

Celtic warned they are repeating Rangers transfer mistakes as rivals set to reverse roles
Andy Newport manned the phone and the focus was on one thing and one thing only – signings Scotland's transfer window doesn't open until Monday but already there are Celtic fans looking at their club's summer recruitment work through rose-tinted glasses. As for the rest of Hotline, well they've taken a dimmer view of the new signings being lined up by Brendan Rodgers. Hoops fan Glen Mitchell was first up as he said: 'Well the champions are up and running and so far, so good. A £6million bonus from Jeremie Frimpong's move to Liverpool, a world-class in at left back signed in Kieran Tierney and a back-up keeper secured for nothing, all while losing no-one of note. "The other main players are making improvements as well, all while some clubs are losing their top performers because they were on loan or out of contract. Add in the fact they will have to keep the dross that are on longer term contracts, you have to say another season of failure beckons for them. FSR regulations and good financial management are unavoidable now.' But Bluenose Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, isn't so impressed by the work done so far at Parkhead: 'What a role reversal! Rangers for seasons have been paying huge wages for people warming the treatment table but now that Celtic have Tierney back on a huge salary for five years, I wonder if they will even get a single season's worth of games out of him over the length of that deal!' Rab Picken, London, agreed as he said: 'I'm loving the support from the east end of Glasgow slagging off Rangers' transfer policy when they've just signed chocolate soldier Kieren Tierney, a player so injury prone he'd pull a hamstring appearing on Question of Sport. 'The truth is Russell Martin is no mug and will sort Rangers out. I foresee Brendan Rodgers running away again to a bigger club like Brentford just like last time with Leicester.' Donald Dundas, Uddingston, called to discuss the latest Rangers gossip as he said: 'I'm bemused by the clamour to sign Lawrence Shankland. Sell Cyriel Dessers? A proven 25-goal-a-season striker? How much would it cost to get another striker with that output? Yes he could be a 35-goals-a-season player but could Shankland give you those figures? I really can't see it but I suppose you don't know until you try.' Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, also called to discuss rumours AEK Athens are in for Dessers and claims a string of clubs in England and France want Hamza Igamane. He said: 'Realistically I can't see them leaving. Who will pay £6million for Dessers or the similar money Rangers are after for Igamane? I'm surprised to hear seven clubs after chasing the Moroccan. He's been invisible most of the season. 'AEK Athens wanting Dessers despite the fact he's missed more sitters than the goals he's scored in his two years here. Let's hope they manage to sell both, as Rangers can't win the league with these duds. Martin's survival rests on finding a No9 who can score goals consistently and hit the 40-goals-a-year mark.' Frazer McKillop, Greenock, added: 'So Rangers' move for Oumar Camara has been scrapped. Mark my words, this lad will come back to haunt our club. He will also be sold for a fortune.' Neil Renton, Leith, called to discuss this week's international action, saying: 'Ten-man Northern Ireland beating Iceland shows two things - how far Scotland are falling when it comes to being a footballing nation. And it also proves that they should be doing all they can to entice boss Michael O'Neill to leave them for Scotland.' John Scott, Grassmoor, said: 'Iceland's squad, bar two players, play their football outside their home island, from Qatar to the US and many leagues in between. I'd imagine they too have had a long hard season. "Having seen off Scotland I can only imagine they arrived in Belfast exhausted given their 1-0 defeat to 10-man Northern Ireland. Steve Clarke needs to step down gracefully and let someone with an alternative game plan take over. 'He's not simply getting the best out of an average group of players. He's failing to get the best out of a squad of talented individuals.'
