Divya Seth criticised this decision and highlighted the government's failure to implement a mass sterilisation plan.
The Supreme Court's order to relocate stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks has been criticised heavily by public figures, activists and commoners. Bollywood celebrities also jumped in to protest, urging the Supreme Court to be more empathetic towards these dogs.
Among the celebrities, Jab We Met actress Divya Seth criticised this decision and highlighted the government's failure to implement a mass sterilisation plan, emphasising its role in the growing stray dog population.
Divya Seth's Response to Supreme Court's Order
During a debate with Times Now, Divya Seth was seen heavily criticising the Supreme Court's order. 'There was an original option, which is that every municipality in our country was given enough funding to neuter these dogs. There was supposed to be mass sterilisation, but it didn't happen; it didn't happen," the actress highlighted the government's failure to implement the right plan.
'I have rescued two dogs whose ears were clipped, but they were pregnant. So the problem began over there—that's why there is this immense population of dogs, because they were not neutered responsibly. They have to be neutered, and they have to be sterilised," she added.
Known for her love for dogs Divya revealed she has five stray dogs outside her house and five in the house. 'Do you know what a superpower street dogs have? I have been rescuing them since I was a child. I have five outside and five in my house. They think your home is theirs to protect. They think your children are theirs to guard. All they ask for in return is a little bit of kindness and just a little bit of food. I understand this, with all due respect to all the people who are scared," she said.
Bollywood Celebrities Express Concerns Over Supreme Court's Ruling
Various Bollywood celebrities like Janhvi Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Ravina Tandon and Zeenat Aman, among others, took to social media to stand against the ruling. Among other stars, singer Chinmayi Sripada, filmmaker Siddharth Anand, actor Adivi Sesh and R. Madhavan also spoke out against the ruling.

Mumbai Now Gets 5.25-km Sea-Facing Promenade, Coastal Road To Stay Open All Day

Last Updated: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a 5.25-km promenade and four pedestrian underpasses on the Mumbai Coastal Road. Mumbaikars can enjoy the walkway from August 15. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday virtually inaugurated a 5.25-km promenade and four pedestrian underpasses on the Mumbai Coastal Road, promising the city not just faster travel but a front-row seat to the Arabian Sea. Starting Thursday, August 15, Mumbaikars will be able to stroll, jog, or cycle along a stretch over twice the length of Marine Drive. The walkway runs from Priyadarshini Park to Worli, with broad footpaths, landscaped gardens, flowering plants, cycle tracks, and wheelchair-friendly ramps. Benches placed at intervals encourage visitors to pause and enjoy panoramic sea views, while underpasses at Bhulabhai Desai Road, Haji Ali Junction, near Worli Dairy, and Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk provide safe, convenient access. 'This promenade will redefine the way Mumbai connects with its coastline," Fadnavis said during the launch from MMRDA's new Bandra (East) headquarters. The Chief Minister urged motorists to obey speed limits when the Coastal Road opens for 24-hour vehicular movement from midnight on Independence Day, warning that CCTV cameras would catch and penalise violators, NDTV reported. Deputy CM Eknath Shinde described the project as part of Mumbai's 'urban makeover," highlighting ongoing beautification efforts and plans for a 70-hectare park along the road. Constructed on reclaimed land and engineered to endure harsh monsoon tides, the promenade serves as both a public leisure spot and a coastal defence. For residents, it offers a new place to walk, cycle, and relax. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
