Fairmont Pacific Rim unveils Suite X

Fairmont Pacific Rim debuts Suite X, an immersive art-meets-hospitality experience created with Douglas Coupland, celebrating Generation X and contemporary Canadian culture.
VANCOUVER, BC – Fairmont Pacific Rim, has debuted Suite X – a one-of-a-kind concept designed in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Canadian visual artist and author, Douglas Coupland and the hotel's co-owner and developers, Westbank and Peterson. Inspired by Generation X, Coupland's novel that helped define and popularize an entire generation, this immersive experience pays tribute to the demographic that reimagined identity, technology, and art.
Blurring the lines between art, design, and hospitality, Suite X is a vibrant extension of the newly renovated Fairmont Gold experience, offering guests an exclusive opportunity to step inside Coupland's world – a living gallery inspired by his fascination with contemporary culture, technology, and Canadian identity. Drawing on his signature pop-art aesthetic, the suite integrates bold visuals, custom-designed furniture, an in-suite bar, and unexpected design moments that invite introspection and spark conversation.
'I'm very much a product of the late 20th century, and this suite reflects my deep love for that era.'says Douglas Coupland. 'When I was growing up, Vancouver felt like nowhere – and then, post-Olympics, it suddenly became somewhere. I never expected to witness such a transformation, but I've had the privilege of being part of the city's full evolution.'
Located on the Fairmont Gold floor and offering sweeping views of Vancouver's waterfront and mountains, Suite X features original works by Coupland and curated literature from the artist's own personal collection and the TASCHEN library. The experience evokes the feeling of sitting in Coupland's own living room – every detail has been thoughtfully considered by the artist himself.
Suite X marks a bold evolution in Fairmont Pacific Rim's ongoing mission to celebrate local art and culture while offering guests next-level experiences rooted in creativity and design. It also expands on the hotel's reimagined Fairmont Gold offering, which now offers a nature-inspired sanctuary featuring elevated amenities and bespoke services tailored for the discerning traveler.
'Suite X represents the intersection of hospitality and artistry, a place where inspiration lives and guests can connect with a truly unique Vancouver story.' says Jens Moesker, Regional Vice President and General Manager, Fairmont Pacific Rim. 'Collaborating with Douglas Coupland has been an incredible creative journey.'

SAS and WestJet plan to launch transatlantic codeshare

SAS and WestJet announce interline agreement to enhance Canada–Scandinavia connectivity, with codeshare plans and expanded access to both domestic networks. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) and WestJet are entering into a new partnership that will significantly strengthen connectivity between Canada and Scandinavia – and this is just the beginning. The newly signed interline agreement enables smooth travel between the two regions, with combined itineraries, single check-in, and through-checked baggage. But more importantly, it marks the first phase of a broader collaboration: SAS and WestJet plan to launch a full codeshare later this summer. SAS now flies year-round between Copenhagen (CPH) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ), and once the codeshare is in place, WestJet will place its code on this nonstop service, as well as on SAS-operated flights connecting key European cities such as London, Paris, and Amsterdam with destinations across Scandinavia. At the same time, SAS travelers will gain access to WestJet's growing Canadian domestic network from North American gateways – opening up convenient one-ticket travel to cities like Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Winnipeg. 'This partnership lays the foundation for a long-term collaboration that will benefit travelers on both sides of the Atlantic. Together with WestJet, we're not only connecting Scandinavia with more destinations across Canada – we're also opening up new ways to reach Europe from key Canadian cities. And with our planned codeshare, even more seamless options are just around the corner,' says Paul Verhagen, Chief Commercial Officer at SAS. Through this interline arrangement, WestJet customers will also be able to book travel to 29 destinations across Denmark, Sweden, and Norway – including major cities like Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Luleå. 'We're pleased to welcome SAS as our latest interline partner, creating new two-way travel opportunities between Canada and key destinations across Northern Europe. This partnership not only enhances connectivity for WestJet guests heading to Scandinavia but also opens up smoother access for Nordic travellers looking to experience the best of Canada through our growing domestic network,' says John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer. SAS, recently recognized as the most punctual airline in world, offers reliable onward connections throughout the Nordic region — an advantage for travelers seeking smooth and efficient journeys. The interline agreement, signed recently during the IATA AGM in Delhi, will be available for booking from June 26, 2025.

Ascend Airways adds 5th aircraft to growing fleet, secures Canadian AOC

Ascend Airways adds fifth Boeing 737-8 MAX, gains Canadian FAOC, and accelerates expansion to meet rising demand for fuel-efficient ACMI services. Ascend Airways, UK-based ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) and charter airline, has taken delivery of its 5th aircraft – Boeing 737-8 MAX. Part of Avia Solutions Group, the world's largest ACMI provider, the airline has also secured its Canadian Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC), marking another significant milestone in its rapid expansion. The aircraft, registered as G-ULIT, received its Certificate of Airworthiness on June 3, 2025 and will be immediately deployed onto a long-term wet lease contract. This addition represents the fourth Boeing 737-8 MAX in Ascend Airways' fleet. 'I want to thank the entire team at Ascend Airways for their hard work and dedication in adding three aircraft over the past two months,' says Alastair Willson, CEO of Ascend Airways. 'Our growing fleet positions us perfectly to meet the growing demand for reliable ACMI services in the UK and other markets with the newest generation of aircraft.' This has been a year of significant growth for the company, which started 2025 with just two aircraft and now operates five. The airline plans to add further Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft over the coming months, with the goal of operating a total of eight aircraft by year-end. The Boeing 737-8 MAX aligns with Ascend Airways' strategy of offering the latest technology and most fuel-efficient aircraft to customers. The MAX 8 reduces CO2 emissions by 20% and has a 40% lower noise footprint compared to previous-generation aircraft, enabling customers to reduce their environmental impact when adding capacity. In addition to fleet expansion, Ascend Airways has received its Canadian FAOC, which allows the airline to commence ACMI operations in Canada. The approval comes in time for the peak season of travel in Canada during the IATA Winter season of which Ascend Airways currently has availability on B737-8 MAX aircraft. Ascend Airways is also in the final stages of gaining it's FAA 129 approvals which will allow the Airline to operate ACMI and Charter flights to the US and also in the process of gaining it's IOSA approvals.
