UAE Wins Seven Medals on Day One of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Jordan
The UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Team, sponsored by Mubadala Investment Company, began its campaign at the 9th Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship with a strong performance, winning seven medals on the first day at Prince Hamzah Hall in Al Hussein Youth City, Amman.
The team won two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals in the men's divisions, reaffirming its dominance in one of the continent's most renowned jiu-jitsu competitions.
Theyab Al Nuaimi (56kg) and Mohamed Ali Al Suwaidi (69kg) took home gold medals. Omar Al Suwaidi (56kg) and Khaled Al Shehhi (62kg) took silver, while Mehdi Al Awlaki (77kg), Hazza Al Qubaisi (85kg), and Faraj Al Awlaki (94kg) won bronze.
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations, congratulated the athletes, citing sustained support from wise leadership as a key factor in their continental success. He also commended Mubadala's strategic partnership, which has been in place since 2023, and emphasized its importance in improving the team's readiness and performance in significant continental and international tournaments.
Head Coach Helder Medeiros was pleased with the results, citing the high quality of play and the tremendous progress made by several Asian nations. He highlighted the team's continued analysis and preparation for the upcoming women's and under-21 competitions.
Gold medalist Theyab Al Nuaimi regarded his triumph as a proud moment for both himself and his teammates, recognising weeks of intense training and discipline. He praised both his coach and the federation for their ongoing support.

Filipino ultrarunner Jivee Tolentino once again proved his endurance and determination by completing 160.8 kilometers in 24 hours at the Backyard Ultra Livata held in Subiaco, Italy, from May 31 to June 2. This extreme endurance event follows a unique setup: participants must run a 6.7 km loop every hour until only one runner remains. Wearing Bib Number 1, the 47-year-old Ilonggo native, now based in Ireland, placed 15th out of 146 international participants. There is no set finish line in this format. Gulf Today Report Pakistan's star athlete Arshad Nadeem clinched the gold medal at men's javelin final at the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea, establishing himself as the new Asian champion. This victory marks Pakistan's first gold medal at the Asian Athletics Championships in over five decades. India's Sachin Yadav secured the silver medal with a personal best of 85.16m, while Japan's Yuta Sakiyama took home the bronze with an 83.75m effort. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who had led the early stages of the competition, narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing fourth with 83.27m. President Asif Ali Zardari praised Arshad's consistent brilliance, saying: "Arshad Nadeem once again brought glory to Pakistan in the sport of javelin throw. His performance in the final and throughout the championship was exemplary.' He added that the entire nation was proud of the athlete's achievement and offered prayers for his future success.
