Fans spot Liam Delap's telling reaction and say the same thing after Chelsea striker watched Joao Pedro's goal in win over Bayer Leverkusen

Daily Mail2 days ago
Footage of Liam Delap reacting to Joao Pedro's goal in Chelsea 's friendly victory over Bayer Leverkusen has caused quite the stir on social media.
Enzo Maresca 's side cruised to a dominant 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge on Friday after wonderkid Estevao scored on his electric debut and Pedro added the second.
All eyes were on Estevao after he tapped home when Cole Palmer 's effort cracked against the woodwork, but attention shifted to fellow new boy Pedro late in the second half, the substitute having doubled the Blues' lead on 90 minutes.
Pedro was introduced in place of Delap, who was unable to find the back of the net.
The frontman, signed from Ipswich this summer, was given his first home start and recorded two efforts on target. Just his second touch of the game saw him test goalkeeper Mark Flekken, who later spread himself to deny Delap in style.
Pedro then showed the £30million man how it was done, composing himself inside the penalty area before coolly picking out the bottom left corner.

Chelsea fans spotted Liam Delap's reaction to Joao Pedro's goal against Bayer Leverkusen
Delap was given his first start at Stamford Bridge but couldn't convert his two big chances
Delap's subsequent reaction on the bench was caught on camera, and social media users were quick to have their say, insisting he was already regretting the move.
'Yeah, he's like, "Damn, it will take a little while,' said one user.
Another added: 'He's starting to regret his decision already.'
A third said: 'Guy knows he's second choice already.'
However, other supporters believe Delap was right to remain stony-faced.
'Rather that than him cheesing,' added another. 'Knows he needs to step it up.'
A fifth user agreed, saying: 'This is what we want, healthy competition in positions.'
Delap elected to move to Stamford Bridge despite interest from both Manchester United and Newcastle, and signed a lucrative six-year contract.
After scoring 12 goals in his 37 top-flight appearances last season, he was recruited to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson.
However, it has since emerged that Jackson will look to leave this summer.
As exclusively reported by Daily Mail Sport, Jackson was left out of the squad at Stamford Bridge and the club are now helping him secure a move away.
We can also reveal Jackson trained solo at Cobham on Friday while everyone else's focus was on their 7pm clash with Bundesliga giants Leverkusen.
It comes with the Senegal international having officially told the club's hierarchy that he is keen to explore a transfer elsewhere this month.
Chelsea are currently in talks with clubs from the Premier League and in Europe and will sanction a sale if they deem it to be in the club's best interests.

Marcus Rashford produces early contender for miss of the season in Barcelona's 5-0 demolition of Cesc Fabregas' Como

Marcus Rashford produced a glaring misses as Barcelona swept aside Cesc Fabregas ' Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy on Sunday. The England forward joined Barcelona on loan from Manchester United last month, with the Catalan giants having the option to turn the move permanent for around £30m. He made his home debut on Sunday night as the LaLiga side cruised to a 5-0 victory in their final pre-season match. But with Barcelona already 4-0 up, Rashford squandered a golden chance to mark the occasion with a goal. The 27-year-old rounded the goalkeeper but somehow fired wide of an open goal. He and team-mate Raphinha were both left with their heads in their hands in disbelief. Fortunately for Rashford, Barcelona were already out of sight thanks to goals from Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, with the teenage sensation adding a second after the break to complete the 5-0 demolition. The United loanee did at least play his part in the rout, using his blistering pace to beat a defender before delivering a perfect assist for Raphinha's strike. Rashford will be hopeful of making his competitive debut for barcelona when they open their LaLiga campaign with a trip to Mallorca on Saturday. The reigning champions have faced difficulties in registering players with the league due to their ongoing financial situation. Barcelona struggled to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor last season, with the pair initially given temporary licences which were revoked by LaLiga during the January transfer window. The club were temporarily granted permission to have the licences reinstated following an appeal, but the saga dragged on throughout the 2025-26 season. Barcelona president Joan Laporta has expressed confidence that Rashford will be among six stars registered prior to the season. 'It's progressing well,' Laporta told ESPN. 'We're doing our job and we're confident that we'll be able to register everyone.' When asked about the situation, Rashford added 'It's something for the club to sort out. I believe they are going to get it sorted. 'I just focus on training and be ready for the start of the season.'

Nicolas Jackson asks to join Premier League club but faces Chelsea battle

Nicolas Jackson favours a move to Newcastle United should he leave Chelsea but faces a battle to be allowed to move on. Jackson is aware his game-time will be reduced this season after Chelsea spent £90m to sign fellow attackers Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. The Senegal international initially indicated he would be staying at Stamford Bridge and was intent on fighting for his place in the team. But it was reported earlier in the weekend that Jackson had informed Chelsea of his desire to move on amid interest from several clubs, both in the Premier League and abroad. It has been clear in pre-season that Jackson has slipped down Enzo Maresca's pecking order and he missed the friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Former Brighton star Pedro scored in both of those games, while ex-Ipswich Town ace Delap bagged a brace in the 4-1 win over Milan. The Telegraph say Jackson is keen to move to St James' Park and join a Newcastle team who won the Carabao Cup last season and will be playing Champions League football this term. But Jackson faces two issues to secure his favoured move, with Newcastle only interested if they are forced to sell Alexander Isak and Chelsea ready to block his transfer unless their demands are met. Newcastle added Jackson and Benjamin Sesko to their list of striker targets after being informed by Isak that he wanted to leave and join Premier League champions Liverpool. St James' Park bosses rejected Liverpool's opening £110m bid and have told Isak he will not be sold despite the Reds preparing an improved offer. But players often get their wish and Isak could yet make the situation messy by handing in a public transfer request or simply refusing to play. 'I'm a Chelsea player,' Nicolas Jackson told DSports TV last month. 'The future belongs to God. If there are any changes, you'll know. For now, I'm focused on my preparation.' Asked whether he feared for his future at Chelsea given the 'serious competition' he will face, if he stays put, following the arrivals of Pedro and Delap, Jackson said: 'Competition? I have no competition. 'We're all here to help the club. Everyone has their role to play. I'm on a mission. It's up to the coach to make his choices. I focus solely on my work.' If they are pushed into a corner, Newcastle will look to raise £150m from the sale of Isak, one of the best strikers in the world. And Isak's potential departure could see them return to Jackson, especially as their other target Benjamin Sesko has already completed a move to the Premier League, joining Manchester United from RB Leipzig. Chelsea are open to selling Jackson, who is currently training on his own, and have held talks with numerous clubs across Europe about a deal. But Chelsea do not view Jackson's sale as a must and are prepared to block his departure unless the terms are right. Chelsea paid £32m for Jackson two years ago and want to double that given he is contracted to Stamford Bridge until 2033. Jackson has reached double figures in both seasons at Chelsea but has also received criticism for his finishing and been sent off in two of his last six appearances for the club. Manchester United and Tottenham were linked with moves for Jackson earlier in the summer but have since priorities other targets. Speaking ahead of Chelsea's pre-season friendly against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday, ex-Blues striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink urged Jackson to stay put. More Trending 'I've always said that I really like him [Jackson], he brings something different,' the former Dutch international told Channel 5. 'Yes, they've bought in two strikers. But I think a big club like Chelsea needs several strikers on the books. He's not going to play as much as last year, but I still think that you can use him. 'But obviously his value has gone up since they have bought it because he's done extremely well. So if it makes sense for the club to sell them, they will.' With their pre-season schedule completed, Chelsea's attentions will now turn to their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace next weekend. For more stories like this, check our sport page. 49ers signing RB Jeff Wilson Jr. to bolster backfield

August 10 - The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly bringing back a familiar face to an injury-depleted backfield. Jeff Wilson Jr., who spent the first four-plus years of his NFL career in San Francisco before spending the past three seasons in Miami, will re-sign with the 49ers after working out for the team on July 30. The 2018 undrafted free agent out of North Texas rushed for 1,733 yards and 15 touchdowns with San Francisco, which traded the running back to Miami midway through the 2022 season. Wilson ran for just 637 yards and three scores in Miami, appearing in only 19 games over the past two years. The 29-year-old adds some depth for the 49ers, who have seen several running backs succumb to injuries recently. Ameer Abdullah, who worked out with Wilson on July 30 and signed with the team, exited Saturday's preseason opener against Denver with a rib injury. Isaac Guerendo (shoulder) and Jordan James (broken finger) also have been sidelined. That left San Francisco with only Christian McCaffrey, Corey Kiner, Patrick Taylor Jr. and recently signed Ke'Shawn Vaughn as healthy options in the backfield. --Field Level Media
