Bailey belts grand slam, Faurot goes deep twice and Florida State tops Mississippi State 10-3
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Myles Bailey belted a grand slam, Drew Faurot hit two home runs and Florida State defeated Mississippi State 10-3 on Saturday night to advance to the championship game of the Tallahassee Regional.
Faurot hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, then leading 2-1 in the fourth inning, Florida State struck for five runs. Gage Harrelson drove in a run with a single, then with the bases loaded Bailey hit an 0-1 pitch to left field for his 18th home run of the season.
Mississippi State got two runs back in the bottom of the inning on a home run by Hunter Hines, who had three hits. Noah Sullivan homered for MSU's other run.
The score remained 7-3 until the ninth when the Seminoles added a leadoff home run by Faurot — his 18th — and run-scoring singles by Alex Lodise and Max Williams.
The No. 1 regional seed Seminoles advance to the championship round and are one win on Sunday from advancing to the super regionals. They await the winner of Sunday's elimination game between No. 3 Mississippi State and No. 2 Northeastern. The Huskies eliminated Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
Florida State's Jamie Arnold (8-2) allowed three runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts. Joe Charles struck out three and did not allow a runner in two innings of relief.
Pico Kohn (5-4) gave up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings, although he struck out seven. There were 32 strikeouts in the game.

The Roots also lost their opening match in the U.S. Open Cup to Tacoma in the third round. Advertisement The 40-year-old Feilhaber scored two goals in 44 international appearances from 2007-17 and was part of the American team at the 2010 World Cup, appearing in three matches as a substitute. His tiebreaking goal on a 22-yard volley broke a 73rd-minute tie and lifted the U.S. over Mexico 2-1 in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup final. Born in Brazil and a graduate of UCLA, Feilhaber played for Hamburg, Derby, Aarhus, New England, Kansas City and Los Angeles FC during a club career from 2006-19. Since retiring as a player, he has been an assistant coach at UCLA, Kansas City under-17 coach and head coach of Sporting KC II in third-tier MLS Next Pro. Meadows makes season debut with Tigers after being sidelined by an arm injury
CHICAGO (AP) — Parker Meadows had a big smile on his face. It had been a long time since he had played in a major league game. Meadows was activated by the Detroit Tigers on Monday after missing the start of the season because of a nerve issue in his upper right arm. He started in center field and led off for the opener of a three-game series at the Chicago White Sox. 'I didn't sleep much last night, just thinking about the day,' Meadows said. 'Excited to be here.' The major league-leading Tigers optioned infielder/outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to Triple-A Toledo after Sunday's 1-0 victory at Kansas City. To make room for Meadows on the 40-man roster, right-hander Ryan Cusick was designated for assignment. Meadows was injured in Detroit's spring training opener Feb. 22 on a throw from center field. He appeared in eight rehab games in the minors beginning on May 21, batting .259 with a homer and five RBIs. 'He's a glue guy, and the guys love him,' Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. 'He played at an incredibly high level for us on both sides of the ball, and we have missed him. Our guys have done a really good job of kind of picking up the pieces and being able to adjust to life without him, but we're better with him.' Meadows, 25, hit .244 with nine homers and 28 RBIs in 82 games for Detroit last season. He also batted .269 (7 for 26) in seven postseason games, helping the Tigers reach the AL Division Series. The road back to the majors took longer than Meadows expected when he first got hurt. 'It was tough, but just put my head down and worked every day,' he said. 'We've got a really good training staff here. Keep a good head on my shoulders and they got me right.' One of the last steps for Meadows before rejoining Detroit was trying a couple of hard throws during his rehab stint. 'At first it was a little eh,' he said. 'But the more throws I made, the better it felt. It feels good now.' The return of Meadows gives Hinch another option on a versatile Tigers team that had won six of seven going into the matchup with the last-place White Sox. Javier Báez, who played an impressive center field while Meadows was out, was back at shortstop for the series opener in Chicago. Hinch said Báez is going to move around the diamond. 'I told Javy, 'Don't take the outfield glove (and) throw it away. You're still going to need it,'' Hinch said. ___

Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs attends first practice since viral boat video emerged
FOXBOROUGH. Mass. (AP) — New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs participated in his first offseason practice since video appeared on social media showing him passing what appeared to be a bag of pink crystals to women on a boat. Diggs attended Monday's voluntary practice session six days after videos were posted online of him chatting with three women before producing the substance. It wasn't clear what the substance was. An NFL spokesman said the league would not comment, and Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said the team would handle the matter internally. Diggs, 31, has attended multiple events this offseason with hip-hop star Cardi B — including the Met Gala and a Boston Celtics-New York Knicks playoff game. The Patriots have two remaining optional workouts on Tuesday and Thursday as part of the spring organized team activity window allotted to each NFL team. Both of those remaining sessions are closed to the media. The players have a mandatory three-day minicamp beginning on June 9. Diggs signed with the Patriots this offseason, getting a three-year, $69 million deal that guarantees him $26 million. The four-time Pro Bowl selection had six straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons for the Vikings and Bills before he was traded from Buffalo to Houston last spring.
