The eco-friendly initiative has been launched by Minister for Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar in memory of his father to distribute steel banks to the members of all 276 women self-help groups (SHGs) in 164 villages of Husnabad Assembly constituency. The initiative is aimed at combating the menace of single-use plastic items and encouraging the use of steel utensils in community events such as weddings and social gatherings in a collaborative mode involving the women SHGs.
The Governor handed over the steel bank kits containing steel glasses, plates and other utensils to the members of around 38 Gramaikya Sanghams on the occasion. Mr Ponnam Prabhakar presided over the meeting.

Telangana should become first state to integrate AI into governance: Dy CM Bhatti

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said Telangana should aim to become the first state in India to fully integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into governance. He said training should be provided at all levels—from Principal Secretaries to village officials. The deputy chief minister made these comments while chairing a meeting of the sub-committee of the Board of Governors of the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resource Development Institute (MCRHRD). He said the state government would support efforts to develop MCRHRD into the country's leading training institute. 'The institute occupies 30 acres and is headed by a former chief secretary. Staff and officials must make full use of its services. It should also work towards self-sufficiency and financial growth,' Vikramarka said. He proposed two-day training programmes at district and mandal levels for leaders of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), aimed at supporting their economic development. He also said that MCRHRD had been neglected over the past decade and promised that the Sub-Committee would meet every six months to assess progress. The finance minister suggested that the institute should be equipped to keep pace with global technological developments. IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu recommended issuing certificates to officials completing AI-related training. He also said college principals should be trained on steps needed to obtain NAAC accreditation, which could improve their eligibility for central government funding. Ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, Director General and Vice-Chairperson Santhi Kumari and other officials attended.

The event was organized jointly by the Raj Bhavan and the Telangana and Andhra Sub Area (TASA) Command. To mark the occasion, the Governor unveiled a portrait of Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India, in the precincts of Raj Bhavan. Offering floral tributes, the Governor paid glowing homage to Vajpayee's statesmanship and resolute leadership, which galvanized the nation during the Kargil conflict. BJP should shed ‘anti-BC' mindset: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar

Reiterating his charge that the BJP is infamous for its 'anti-BC' mindset since the Mandal Commission era, Minister for Transport and Backward Classes Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar has warned that BCs would not keep quiet if any attempts are made to obstruct the enhanced 42% quota for them in Telangana. Speaking to the media in Karimnagar on Saturday, Mr Prabhakar said the Congress party is the champion of social justice. The Telangana Assembly passed a Bill increasing reservation of BCs to 42%, he said, alleging that the BJP is conspiring to obstruct the move on one pretext or the other to jeopardise the interests of BCs. Asserting that the Congress party has the proven track record of championing the cause of BCs and other weaker sections, he alleged that the BJP earned notoriety for pursuing divisive politics and working against the interests of BCs since the era of the Mandal Commission. 'If the BJP is sincere for the empowerment of BCs, it should get the 42% quota Bill approved by the Centre and cooperate to ensure local body elections in the State before September 30, the timeframe set by the High Court to conduct the local body polls,' he added.
