Lewis Hamilton kills groundhog during Canadian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton said he felt devastated after learning that he had hit and killed a groundhog, damaging his Ferrari car, on his way to finishing sixth in the Canadian Grand Prix.
Hamilton, who owns a French bulldog called Roscoe that is often seen with him at Grands Prix, said he did not see the groundhog and felt that the incident reduced the performance of his car after a bright start Sunday.
'It was feeling pretty decent up until then,' said the seven-time world champion.
'I got a good start, I held position and I was holding onto the leading group.
'I was managing the tyres well, so I was feeling optimistic.
'I didn't see it happen, but I heard I hit a groundhog. That's devastating because I love animals and I'm so sad about it. It's horrible.
'That's never happened to me before here, but the floor – basically the right-side – there was a hole in it.
'Given that, and we had a brake issue halfway through as well, and then we probably stayed out too long in the first stop and came out behind traffic… it went from one thing to another.'
After going 10 races without a podium this season for the first time in his Formula One career, having joined Ferrari, Hamilton was expressing mounting frustration at the team's disappointing start to the year.
'I'm grateful that I finished, particularly with the brake issue I had. We are really in need of an upgrade, but there are a lot of things that need to change in order for us to compete at the front.'
Team-mate Charles Leclerc finished fifth despite missing much of Friday practice after crashing in the opening session, but said he was frustrated by how his race had unfolded.

'I'd wake up at 2am to play for Bafana'– Kaizer Chiefs midfielder

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has indicated that he would do anything possible to represent Bafana Bafana. The 28-year-old has made a few appearances for the national team but has not been in Hugo Broos' plans for years. He was recently called to the Bafana Bafana's COSAFA Cup squad but withdrew due to injury. Cele joined Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer after parting ways with the Russian side, Fakel Voronezh in January. He has been one of the club's good signings this past season, stamping his authority in the midfield. The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder expressed his desire to get back into the Bafana Bafana setup. 'Any opportunity I'm given to represent the country, I'd wake up even at 2 AM to play for the nation. But it's just that I've been struggling with an injury,' Cele said as per FARPost . 'I do watch Bafana games because it's football and I support the national team. I want to be part of that. When we grow up as young boys, we have dreams of representing the country. 'So, this is something I've been fighting for even with the Under-20s and U-23s. Even the soldiers, when they go to fight, wear a South African badge. So we want to be part of that,' Cele said. With positions at Bafana Bafana heavily contested, it would be tough for the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder to break through. Under Nabi, Cele has excelled and might get a call-up if Amakhosi improves next season. Pirates chase PSL winger, while Chiefs seek Mayele's alternative

Orlando Pirates are hopeful they will sign uSuthu star Tshepang Moremi, who recorded ten goal contributions last campaign. The 24-year-old, who is also being monitored by Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, expressed his desires to partake in soccer's biggest stages, saying, 'I'd say that I am looking forward to keeping on improving. I aim to see myself playing in the Afcon and the Fifa World Cup, so I want to score goals and rack up assists.' Moremi has each of the PSL's big three after his signature, a testament to his skill and potential. 'There has been interest in Tshepang, and it's not only from Chiefs or Pirates,' a source revealed. 'Mamelodi Sundowns are also believed to be interested in him. However, the issue will be with AmaZulu, as they are not ready to release him unless the money is too good.' Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates' bitter rivals AmaKhosi are eyeing a Congolese attacker – and it's not Fiston Mayele. The player in question is Young Africans attacking midfielder Maxi Ngenzeli. 'At the moment the club has not yet signed some of the players who they want nor those they are looking at. It's believed that they are spreading the search wide so that they can get the kind of players they really need this season,' an inside source said. 'Apparently, Maxwell Nzengeli is one player they are also looking at. Coach Nabi knows him already, and the scouts and recruiters are also believed to have liked him and are looking at the possibility of getting him, depending on the conditions around the transfer.' New Piloti Ferrari 296 Speciale is one for the racers

Ferrari has unveiled its new Piloti Ferrari 296 Speciale. A product of the Italian carmaker's Tailor Made programme, it's designed to celebrate the marque's successes achieved in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and to honour Ferrari client-racing drivers. The unique specification, reserved for clients involved in Ferrari's official sporting activities — both competitive and noncompetitive — is inspired by the 499P, overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023, 2024 and 2025 in the Hypercar category. As such it features a bespoke exterior treatment with a choice of four racing-inspired colours: Rosso Scuderia, Blu Tour De France, Nero Daytona and Argento Nürburgring. All four shades are offset by contrasting flashes of Giallo Modena (Ferrari's famed yellow hue) and a hand-painted WEC logo. The aerodynamic front splitter wears an Italian flag and customers can choose a number of their choice to be applied to the bonnet and doors. The cabin gets racing seats upholstered in black Alcantara, with inserts made from the same fireproof fabric used to make the overalls worn by Ferrari factory drivers. The livery number is reproduced on the interior carbon fibre, while the metal footwell surface can be customised upon request. The personalisation is completed by a carbon identification plaque and a carbon-fibre door sill owners can customise with a personal inscription. Power is provided by a 515kW 3.0l twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine. Mounted between it and the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox is an e-motor that makes available a total system output of 648kW. Performance is rapid to say the least, with Ferrari claiming 0-100km/h in 2.8 seconds and 0-200 km/h in 7.0 seconds. Top speed is said to be greater than 330km/h.
