Abu Shaef Hamza makes emotional return to KL Fashion Week with ‘Jaan', a tribute to life, loss and legacy
Presented on the penultimate day of the annual fashion showcase, the runway presentation was created in collaboration with Bahadur Couture and fashion stylist Yogash Global, drawing on the rich tapestries of Indian culture and inspired by Abu's paternal heritage.
The show opened with singer Mimifly's stirring performance of 'Angkat', setting the tone for a series of striking black ensembles — a solemn tribute to death, the past and unspoken grief.
Abu, in a statement released after the show, said the structured silhouettes symbolised the finality of endings and the weight of ancestral memories.
From darkness, the collection moved into light, shifting into bridal whites, creams and celebratory hues inspired by weddings and rituals.
'Jaan' is described as a joyful ode to heritage and legacy.
This segment, marked by a Bharatanatyam dance interlude, reimagined conventional traditions in modern silhouettes, evoking the scent of jasmine, the beat of drums and the glow of festive gatherings.
The final phase embraced sleek, futuristic designs, flowing fabrics and experimental craftsmanship to represent rebirth and renewal.
A vibrant finale of colours closed the show, symbolising hope and the continuation of legacy.
''Jaan' intertwines love and life, making it a joyful ode to heritage and legacy, reimagined for all who love fashion,' said Abu, who is showing at KLFW for the third consecutive year.

Jackson Wang cancels Music Korea Fan Event after emergency hospitalisation
SEOUL, AUG 16 — Jackson Wang's packed schedule came to an abrupt halt Friday when food poisoning sent him to the emergency room at midnight. The medical emergency forced the immediate cancellation of his Music Korea Fan Sign Event scheduled for today, Korea JoongAng Daily reported. This setback comes just months after Wang released his second album 'Magic Man 2' in July. The former GOT7 member, who went solo after leaving JYP Entertainment in 2021, faces a critical recovery period. His ambitious 'Magic Man 2' world tour is scheduled to kick off October 3, giving him just weeks to recuperate. The tour's Asian leg includes major cities like Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Tokyo, and Kuala Lumpur on October 25.

Young neurodivergent artists shine in HUGEart exhibition
An eye-catching selection of works by young neurodivergent artists at the 'Voices Through Colours' exhibition. (Terence Toh @ FMT Lifestyle) KUALA LUMPUR : It was a joyful and unforgettable afternoon for 24 young neurodivergent artists as their creations took centre stage in a public exhibition for all to admire. 'Voices Through Colours', featuring artwork from children and teenagers with autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other neurodivergent profiles, was held at Manja Restaurant on Lorong Raja Chulan here on Aug 9. The exhibition was organised by Malar Sinnadurai, founder of the HUGEart initiative and Children's Art Studio, and a long-time advocate of empowering children through arts education. The upper floor of Manja Restaurant was transformed into an arts space that showcased the many vibrantly coloured and lushly detailed works from the artists, whose ages range from seven to 21. Organiser Malar Sinnadurai believes all young people should be given the chance to shine. (Terence Toh @ FMT Lifestyle) From adorable animals and cute cartoon characters to iconic landmarks and abstract creations, the artworks showcased a wide variety of subjects. Many of the young artists were present, and delighted in showing off their creations to friends, family and other visitors. 'These children with special needs are good in expressing themselves through art, and not so much words. By looking at what they make, you can look into their worlds. 'I'm amazed by their talent and creativity,' Malar told FMT Lifestyle. The artworks showcased a variety of topics and creative techniques. (Terence Toh @ FMT Lifestyle) She explained that the goal was to raise awareness about children with special needs by showcasing their talents, while empowering them with a platform through which they could express themselves and grow in confidence. 'We also strive to support their journey towards financial independence by creating opportunities for them to earn from their art, to help them build self-worth and even future savings,' Malar added. One of the young artists was Sree Durga, who has autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. She is an experienced artist, having previously won the Mitsubishi Excellence Award (2024/2025) for her works. The 10-year-old proudly showed off her creation, a lush acrylic piece called 'Friends in Outfits Passing through the Enchanted Garden'. Malar declared the exhibition a success, noting that more than a quarter of the 52 paintings on display had been sold within three hours, with strong interest in additional purchases even after the event ended. She added that HUGEart has been actively collaborating with schools and organisations to help children gain confidence and express themselves. These include the START programme; the Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation; and Fashion with Autism Rules, a project by JK Signature that showcases the talents of individuals with autism through creativity and style.
