BMW driving personal trainer 'on first date' admits dangerous driving following A-road horror smash during police chase
A BMW driver who caused a horror crash involving five police cars on a dual carriageway has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.
Personal trainer Mazyar Azarbonyad, 20, was pursued by police on April 9 on the A1 near Gateshead and Newcastle border after concerns about the way he was driving.
The pursuit resulted in a huge pile-up at just before 2.30am, injuring seven police officers. The officers were hospitalised with 'non-life threatening injuries' and have since been discharged.

The driver and his passenger, a woman who Azarbonyad was reportedly taking home after a first date, were both uninjured.
Appearing at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Saturday (April 19), Azarbonyad admitted dangerous driving; and failing to stop on the night of the incident. He also pleaded guilty for driving without a license on four separate occasions after he was released on bail.
Azarbonyad, of Sylvia Terrace in Durham, drove to work at a town-centre gym in Newcastle in a Hyundai i10 after his licence was suspended.
A woman in the vehicle was initially arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting dangerous driving but was later released with no further action taken.
Police first flagged the dark grey BMW M Sport in the Whickham area of Gateshead before giving chase along the northbound A1. The major collision occurred at 2.27AM near the Derwent Haugh Road junction.
The area is known for the nearby roundabout, where gunman Raoul Moat shot PC David Rathband in 2010, leaving him blind.
The crash caused parts of the northbound A1 to be shut off for 13 hours as emergency crews attended the scene.
Dramatic images from the crash show car debris scattered across the road and several crushed police vehicles.

LOGAN, Utah () — Two women have been arrested and charged after forcing their way into a Logan home and attacking a woman in the middle of the night. One woman covered the victim's nose and mouth while the other 'struck the victim repeatedly in the face with closed fists.' The two dragged the victim outside and onto the lawn, where they continued to physically attack her. The victim's boyfriend heard screaming and came outside. FBI accuses Green Twp. man of detonating homemade bombs in woods across Greater Cincinnati
The FBI arrested a Green Township man this week they say is responsible for detonating homemade explosives in wooded areas across Greater Cincinnati. Robert Gilb, 50, was arrested June 10 by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force after agents connected Gilb to at least three explosions in Hamilton and Butler counties. The federal investigation began in April after Hamilton County sheriff's deputies responded to a loud explosion and white smoke in a wooded area off East Miami River Road in Cleves. There, deputies found a small pipe, a small piece of wire and 10 batteries housed together in the radius of 50 feet, according to a sheriff's office incident report. The FBI took over the investigation and connected it to two similar explosions in Butler County a month earlier. Butler County sheriff's deputies told the FBI in March they went to a neighborhood in Okeana, a small unincorporated community off State Route 126, for a dispute between neighbors. The dispute followed an explosion nearby similar to the one in Cleves. Then, days later, a witness to another explosion nearby reported seeing a white BMW parked prior to the detonation. Authorities learned Gilb was the owner of that BMW. After talking to "multiple witnesses," a federal agent wrote in court documents Gilb was identified as a person involved in construction explosives. Gilb faces charges of possession of an unregistered destructive device and transporting explosive materials without a permit, according to court records. Those are federal crimes punishable by up to 10 years in prison, Acting U.S. Attorney Kelly Norris said in a news release. Gilb is expected next in federal court in Cincinnati on June 12 at 1:30 p.m. before Magistrate Judge Karen Litkovitz.
