Police arrest 71 in nationwide raids on mule account syndicates, seize nearly 1,000 ATM cards and RM392,000 in cash
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the operation was carried out in collaboration with Bank Negara Malaysia to thwart cash withdrawals by fraud syndicates based on cases reported to the National Scam Response Centre.
He said of the 59 raids carried out between July 29 and 31, 24 took place in Kuala Lumpur, followed by 11 in Penang, eight in Sabah, five in Perak, four in Pahang, three in Selangor, and two each in Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak.
'Those arrested, aged between 19 and 50, comprised 55 local men, eight local women and eight foreign men, namely four from Bangladesh and one each from China, Nigeria, Myanmar and Indonesia,' Rusdi told a press conference at Menara KPJ here today.
He said police also seized 925 ATM cards, RM392,266 in cash, 100 mobile phones, 32 SIM cards, 16 bags, 55 documents, two blank cheque books, a cheque receipt valued at RM90,961.24, five cars, a laptop and a printer.
Rusdi said police had opened 42 investigation papers involving offences under Sections 420, 424, 424A and 511 of the Penal Code, along with Sections 5(2), 15A(1)(b) and 29AA of the Moneylenders Act 1951.
He said initial investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in a phone scam syndicate, non-existent loans, illegal moneylending activities and operating as unlicensed money changers or remittance agents.
According to him, 16 individuals had been brought to court, with six charged under the Minor Offences Act 1955 and 10 under Section 424A of the Penal Code, while 55 others had been released on police bail pending completion of investigations.
He advised the public not to get involved in activities such as lending or leasing out their bank accounts or acting as runners to withdraw cash using ATM cards belonging to others, as such actions constituted criminal offences. — Bernama

PETALING JAYA : Seberang Perai Utara police have launched an investigation into an incident in which a man had hoisted the Jalur Gemilang upside down. District police chief Anuar Abd Rahman said the authorities were investigating the incident for improper use of emblems and names, insulting behaviour, and improper use of network facilities. 'Police have recorded the statements of the complainant as well as the suspect involved in the incident,' he said in a statement. A video, uploaded at about 12.30pm today, shows a man hoisting the flag, while another was recording it. A report was lodged at the Kepala Batas police station. Earlier today, Malaysiakini reported that the hardware shop owner involved in the gaffe said he was measuring the length of an iron pole while hanging the flag and did not notice that the flag was upside down. The owner said he rectified the mistake immediately after realising it. He apologised for the blunder and lodged a report at the Kepala Batas police station to provide an explanation. It was the sixth flag-related incident since January, and the second case of improper handling of flags this month. On Aug 1, SJKC Chung Hua in Port Dickson apologised for mistakenly flying the Jalur Gemilang upside down.

Headmaster accused of sexually assaulting pupil released on bail
The Year 6 pupil had told his mother he had been sexually assaulted in school on several occasions. PETALING JAYA : A primary school headmaster accused of molesting a 12-year-old male student in the school's restroom and office has been released on bail, Melaka police said tonight. Melaka police chief Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the suspect was arrested yesterday, the same day the boy's mother lodged a report. 'We are investigating the case for physical sexual assault on a child,' he told FMT. Dzulkhairi also said the suspect cooperated during the investigation. Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that the Year 6 pupil told his mother that he had been sexually assaulted on several occasions. He claimed that the most recent incident took place in the school's bathroom on July 29. Citing a source, Utusan reported that the boy had gone to the bathroom with two classmates. The headmaster entered the bathroom and told one of the boy's classmates to return to class, unaware that the second classmate was in one of the stalls. The suspect allegedly hugged the victim from behind and whispered 'I love you'. He also allegedly forced the victim to say 'I love you, too'. The boy claimed that a similar incident occurred in June when he and a friend were asked to help attach clips to certificates in the headmaster's office. It was alleged that the headmaster had groped the victim in front of his friend.

Police exhume Zara Qairina's body in Sipitang for post-mortem
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — Authorities completed exhuming the late Zara Qairina Mahathir at the Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol, Sipitang, at 7.15pm today. Her remains were then transported to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) for a post-mortem examination scheduled for tomorrow morning, Sinar Harian reported. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) forensic unit carried out the work, witnessed by various parties including lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri representing Zara Qairina's mother, 45-year-old Noraidah Lamat. Hamid told reporters after leaving the cemetery that the process had gone smoothly. Zara Qairina, 13, reportedly fell from the third floor of her school dormitory in Papar on July 16 and was pronounced dead the following day, amid widespread public concern over allegations that her death may have involved school bullying and a cover-up.
