Joao Felix says late Jota 'will forever be part of football history'
Jota was killed along with brother Andre Silva when their Lamborghini went off the road in northern Spain on July 3.
Just 11 days prior to the accident, the Portuguese forward had married Rute Cardoso, the mother of his three children.
The Premier League remembered Jota over the weekend in a series of moving tributes.
Adding his voice to the outpouring of grief across the football world, Felix looked visibly moved as he spoke about his good friend and international colleague.
Felix, who was among the mourners at the brothers' funeral, said: "Diogo to me was one of my best friends in the national team, he was always part of our mini group in the national team, those of us who were always together.
"I knew his family, especially his parents, an incredible family."
Speaking in Hong Kong, where Felix is with his new team Al Nassr for this week's Saudi Super Cup, the 25-year-old added: "I think he will forever be a part of football history, he will remain in the hearts of those who were already close to him.
"After that day, every time we go on the field we will remember him and play in part for him."
The attacker Felix joined fellow Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr late last month from Chelsea in a move reported to be worth up to 43.7 million pounds ($58 million).
Felix, who has also played for Benfica, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan, will reportedly earn $10 million a year.

Elche's late goal salvages draw with Real Betis on return to La Liga
ELCHE, Spain (AP) — Elche needed a late goal at home against Real Betis to salvage a 1-1 draw in its return to La Liga on Monday after a two-year absence. Germán Valera scored the 81st-minute equalizer from inside the area for the host after Aitor Ruibal put Betis ahead in a breakaway in the 21st. Elche, based in south-eastern Spain, spent three consecutive seasons in the first division — from 2020-21 to 2022-23 — before being relegated in 2023. Manuel Pellegrini's Betis was looking for a good start after finishing sixth last season and securing a place in the Europa League. Barcelona began the defense of its league title with a comfortable 3-0 win at nine-man Mallorca on Saturday, while Atletico Madrid squandered a late lead in a 2-1 loss at Espanyol on Sunday. QB Jordan Love returns to Packers practice after thumb surgery
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love returned to practice Monday less than a week after undergoing thumb surgery on his non-throwing hand. He had his thumb, which had ligament damage, wrapped while going through a series of passing drills. The injury occurred, coach Matt LaFleur previously said, when he was sacked for a 3-yard loss by Jay Tufele on the quarterback's final snap from scrimmage during the Packers' 30-10 preseason loss to the New York Jets on Aug. 9. LaFleur has already ruled out Love from playing in the Packers' final preseason game against Seattle on Saturday. Malik Willis is the primary backup and had two starts in seven appearances last season after being acquired in a trade from Tennessee. ___ AP NFL:
