WWDC 2025: macOS Tahoe name leaked ahead of Apple's first biggest event of 2025

Time of India2 days ago

Apple is all set to host its annual developer conference —
WWDC 2025
next week. At the event the company is expected to unveil the latest versions of its iOS, iPadOS and macOS operating systems. Now a new report suggests that Apple may name the upcoming version of macOS as
macOS Tahoe
. As reported by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple's upcoming
macOS 26
is said to be named macOS Tahoe. The name follows Apple's tradition of using California landmarks for macOS branding, with
Lake Tahoe
chosen to represent the new design overhaul expected in this release.
Here's why Apple is naming macOS 26 as macOS Tahoe
Apple traditionally names its macOS operating systems after iconic California landmarks, a practice that has led to names like macOS Ventura, Monterey, Big Sur, and Catalina in recent years. Lake Tahoe, known for its clear waters and mountain reflections, aligns with Apple's rumoured glass-like, translucent UI redesign. The update is expected to bring more fluid animations, redesigned icons, and a refreshed interface across Apple's ecosystem. Lake Tahoe, a large freshwater lake in the Sierra Nevada mountains, fits this naming convention perfectly.
Alongside macOS Tahoe, Apple is reportedly rebranding all its operating systems to match the calendar year. Instead of iOS 19, macOS 15, or watchOS 12, Apple will introduce
iOS 26
, macOS 26, watchOS 26, and visionOS 26, simplifying version numbers for users and developers.
What to expect at WWDC 2025
Despite the scaled-down nature of the event, Apple will likely introduce:
Swift Assist Updates – Enhancements to Apple's developer tools.
Rich Text Editor for SwiftUI – A new feature aimed at improving app development workflows.
On-Device AI Models for Developers – Apple may allow third-party developers to embed its AI models into apps, though these models are smaller and less powerful than OpenAI's or Google's offerings.

OpenAI to provide fresh API credits to 11 Indian non-profit organisations

OpenAI on Tuesday announced that it will provide a fresh round of API (application programming interface) credits to 11 non-profit organisations in India, including Rocket Learning, Noora Health, and Udhyam, among others, to help build artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for social good. 'Over the last year, the India cohort has developed and deployed AI-powered applications across sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, disability inclusion, and gender equity, creating a tangible and measurable impact in underserved communities,' the company said in a statement. The global program, which offers the selected participants hands-on technical support, cohort-based learning, and early access to OpenAI's tools, functions under the OpenAI Academy umbrella. In India, beneficiaries Rocket Learning uses WhatsApp and generative AI to deliver personalised early learning experiences for parents and daycare, and Noora Health improves patient recovery by disseminating life-saving information to patients' families and caretakers. Other beneficiaries include companies such as Udhyam, which is integrating AI into government education systems to nurture entrepreneurial mindsets in students, and Digital Green, which is scaling peer-to-peer agricultural learning by automating insights and crop recommendations. 'These organisations are solving some of the country's most complex challenges with ingenuity and empathy. The AI for Impact Accelerator — now part of OpenAI Academy — is our way of learning from them while ensuring frontier technology is being shaped by and in service of real communities,' said Pragya Misra, the policy and partnerships lead at OpenAI India.

Rockstar surprises fans with new GTA San Andreas iOS update

Source: Via Rockstar Games Rockstar Games has quietly released a new update for the classic version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on iOS, sparking surprise and delight among long-time fans. The update, titled version 2.2.21, went live on May 29, 2025, and targets key technical issues that had affected the mobile experience. This marks the fifth update in the past year for the original iOS version, not to be confused with the Definitive Edition. Classic San Andreas receives rare mobile update from Rockstar The biggest chunk of the update comes in the form of the solution to persistent frame rate issues. Several players had complained that GTA San Andreas was not able to sustain 30FPS or more on multiple iOS models. With release 2.2.21, Rockstar has finally fixed the issue, providing smoother gameplay on supported hardware. Traffic-related bugs, cars suddenly materializing or flying off ramps, are another large set of fixes included in the patch. In spite of the availability of the updated GTA Trilogy: The Definitive Edition on mobile devices, Rockstar has continued to update the original release to the surprise of the community. This support is particularly remarkable considering that the classic release has been out for well over a decade and many had assumed updates were no longer coming. Fans have turned to social media to thank Rockstar for its dedication to the older game, commending the improved performance and renewed playability. Full patch notes and community response As per the official patch notes published on Rockstar's support page , the update features three fundamental fixes: Fixed an issue that resulted in traffic appearing abruptly instead of fading in Fixed an issue that resulted in traffic flying away at high speeds when going down ramps Fixed an issue that resulted in a frame-rate limiter causing a lower than target FPS Though these changes may appear minor at first glance, they greatly improve the mobile gaming experience. The increase in frame rate, in fact, adds much-needed stability to gameplay, which has grown jerky on current hardware. Rockstar's surprise upgrade of the original GTA San Andreas on iOS shows that even classic titles continue to get a look. While fans continue to speculate Vice City's comeback in GTA 6 buzz, it's a nice reminder that the classics have not been neglected. Whether nostalgia or performance, San Andreas is just a little better now on iOS. Also Read: In GTA 6 civilians could call 911 and that might change how you play

AI-driven quality control systems and mfg solutions focus of CICU workshop

Ludhiana: It's no secret that AI is set to revolutionise manufacturing, like every other sphere of life and work. At a workshop organised at the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) recently, the transformative role of AI in modern manufacturing was discussed at length. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The focus was on how AI is revolutionising industrial practices by enhancing operational efficiency, enabling predictive maintenance, and driving automation, thereby improving overall productivity and significantly reducing costs. Application of machine learning in production processes and real-time data analysis, insights into deep learning, emphasising AI-driven quality control systems and intelligent manufacturing solutions were explained and discussed by the participants, while exploring the role of generative AI, with a focus on natural language processing and the capabilities of various foundation models. Another key area of discussion was prompt engineering and a comparative analysis between OpenAI tools and proprietary AI solutions. The workshop also addressed the importance of security and compliance frameworks for industries and presented suggested proprietary models to tackle sector-specific challenges. In addition, the integration of AWS tools into routine industrial operations was demonstrated, showcasing how cloud-based solutions are enhancing efficiency across different verticals. The event saw active participation and enthusiasm from all attendees, underlining the growing interest in adopting AI-driven technologies in industry.
