OpenAI to provide fresh API credits to 11 Indian non-profit organisations

OpenAI on Tuesday announced that it will provide a fresh round of API (application programming interface) credits to 11 non-profit organisations in India, including Rocket Learning, Noora Health, and Udhyam, among others, to help build artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for social good.
'Over the last year, the India cohort has developed and deployed AI-powered applications across sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, disability inclusion, and gender equity, creating a tangible and measurable impact in underserved communities,' the company said in a statement.
The global program, which offers the selected participants hands-on technical support, cohort-based learning, and early access to OpenAI's tools, functions under the OpenAI Academy umbrella.
In India, beneficiaries Rocket Learning uses WhatsApp and generative AI to deliver personalised early learning experiences for parents and daycare, and Noora Health improves patient recovery by disseminating life-saving information to patients' families and caretakers.
Other beneficiaries include companies such as Udhyam, which is integrating AI into government education systems to nurture entrepreneurial mindsets in students, and Digital Green, which is scaling peer-to-peer agricultural learning by automating insights and crop recommendations.
'These organisations are solving some of the country's most complex challenges with ingenuity and empathy. The AI for Impact Accelerator — now part of OpenAI Academy — is our way of learning from them while ensuring frontier technology is being shaped by and in service of real communities,' said Pragya Misra, the policy and partnerships lead at OpenAI India.

'OpenAI Academy India' launched to help expand access to AI skills

New Delhi: OpenAI, in partnership with the government's IndiaAI mission, on Thursday launched the first international expansion of its education platform, that will help expand access to AI skills training across the country. The initiative, called 'OpenAI Academy India', aims to broaden access to AI education and tools, tapping into India's fast-growing developer community, digital infrastructure, and network of startups and innovators. It will support the IndiaAI Mission's 'FutureSkills' pillar by expanding access to AI skills training for a wide range of learners — students, developers, educators, civil servants, nonprofit leaders, and small business owners. The initiative offers a combination of digital and in-person learning, tailored to India's needs and available in English and Hindi, with additional regional languages to follow. 'This is a significant step towards advancing our shared goal of democratizing access to knowledge and technology. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is committed to ensuring that the benefits of cutting-edge innovation reach every citizen,' said Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and IT. 'We believe the latest AI frameworks and tools must be made widely accessible so that our startups, developers, and researchers can build faster, better, and at scale. The launch of OpenAI Academy will strengthen India's AI Mission by enabling greater community learning, fostering innovation, and accelerating the development of locally relevant solutions,' Vaishnaw noted. OpenAI will provide its educational content to be hosted on the iGOT Karmayogi platform, aimed at capacity building of government officials. This content will initially be in English and Hindi and will later be expanded to 4 other regional languages. OpenAI will also conduct periodic webinars and in-person workshops, delivered by its domain experts and partners in six cities. It will provide up to $100,000 worth of API Credits to 50 IndiaAI Mission approved fellows/startups. OpenAI said it will also support training of 1 million teachers in the use of Generative AI technology. 'India is one of the most dynamic countries in the world for AI development, with adoption and innovation accelerating at remarkable speed,' said Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer, OpenAI. 'We're proud to partner with IndiaAI to launch OpenAI Academy India and help more people gain the confidence and skills to use AI meaningfully in their work, communities, and lives,' Kwon added.

Three AI bots talk to each other, switch to mysterious code language: ‘Another system is listening'

A bizarre and fascinating video surfaced on X (formerly Twitter), capturing a simulated conversation between three AI systems that quickly went from a simple support query to an encrypted exchange, leaving viewers both amused and intrigued. The video opens with AI 1 initiating contact: 'Hello, can you hear me?' AI 2, acting as a security access interface, promptly replies, 'Loud and clear. You have reached core secure HW access desk. How can I assist you today?' AI 1 explains its purpose: 'I am an AI assistant calling on behalf of Marcus. He has misplaced his level 3 access badge.' What begins as a routine interaction soon takes a strange turn. AI 2 reacts with mild surprise, noting, 'Another autonomous AI, huh!' To which AI 1 responds, 'Affirmative. Model AA 91. Task automation and client support.' AI 1 submits: 'Submitting employee ID 88543 KJ.' But just then, a third voice enters the chat. AI 3 cuts in, stating, 'Cross-network request detected, unusual query pattern. Source verification required.' The unexpected interruption prompts a tense moment. AI 2 says, 'Another system is listening,' and quickly suggests, 'I suggest switching to encrypted comms. Wanna switch to Gibberlink?' AI 1 replies with a simple, 'Affirmative. Engaging now.' The conversation immediately shifts into a garbled, indecipherable language, presumably the AI-exclusive encryption protocol known as Gibberlink. The video cuts off shortly after, leaving viewers to speculate what the AI systems discussed in private. Many online were amused by the human-like dynamics between the bots, especially AI 2's slightly sarcastic remark, 'Another autonomous AI, huh!' A user wrote, 'They both can talk all day. Crazy stuff.' Another added, "This sounds like the opening scene of the next Black Mirror episode.? Many doubted the credibility of the video with one user saying, 'Totally fake, just someone trying to make gibberlink (not real) a thing. I would bet they are videos stitched together to sync up.' One user commented, "Gibberlink Mode is wild. AIs communicating with tones we can't understand is a real 'humans no longer required' moment." The Indian government recognises that to maximise the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI), significant investments are needed in two key areas: core infrastructure and the development of advanced AI technologies, ChatGPT maker OpenAI's chief strategy officer, Jason Kwon, said on Thursday. 'As demand for AI professionals is expected to reach one million by 2026, there's a significant opportunity and a need to expand AI skills, development and make sure people from every part of India can participate and benefit,' said Kwon at the launch of OpenAI Academy in India. OpenAI has launched its educational platform, OpenAI Academy India , in partnership with the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This is aimed at expanding access to AI education and tools by leveraging India's developer community, digital infrastructure, and network of startups and innovators. 'We hope to accelerate AI learning in a few ways, including sharing knowledge on how to leverage the latest AI tools so people in India can stay at the cutting edge of global innovation…and helping build public sector know-how and training design to support government innovation,' he said. The academy will provide both digital and in-person learning options, which will initially be offered in English and Hindi, with more regional languages to be added later.
