A man has been commended for his firm stance in refusing to swap plane seats with an 'entitled' boyfriend who wanted to sit next to his girlfriend without paying extra. The 29-year-old was returning from a business trip and had pre-booked an aisle seat. Being tall, he wanted the additional legroom that this seat provided for stretching during the flight.
His journey was disrupted when another passenger noticed him sitting alone and approached him with a 'favour'. He shared on Reddit: "I was flying home from a work trip and had booked an aisle seat because I'm tall and need legroom.
"As soon as I sit down, a guy comes over and says, 'Hey bro, can we switch? My girlfriend's by the window and I'm in the middle back there.'
"I glance at his seat, literally the second-worst spot on the plane. I say, 'Sorry, I booked this one specifically'. He gets annoyed and says, 'Dude, I'm just trying to sit next to my girl.'"
While he understood the man's wish to change seats, he politely explained that he wasn't prepared to compromise his comfort.
He continued: "He said, 'You're sitting alone, man. What do you need the aisle for?' I replied, 'Because I paid for it. That's how seats work.'
"He called me an 'inconsiderate loner,' which was amusing, given he tried to guilt-trip me into accepting a less desirable seat. The flight attendant eventually had to instruct him to take his seat or face removal."
In a parting shot on social media, he reaffirmed his stance, saying: "Couples don't get priority over people who planned ahead. Sorry not sorry."
His post garnered support from many, but it also sparked a flurry of anecdotes about 'entitled' passengers on flights.
One commenter shared their own experience: "This happened on a 12h flight from Korea to Toronto and when the person said no the girlfriend started bawling and eventually someone else nearby traded with her."

The infuriated commenter added: "I was so mad they gave into her crocodile tears because now she's going to do it every damn flight."
They highlighted the unfairness of the situation, pointing out that "a poor tiny Asian woman was stuck in a middle seat for 12 hours instead of her aisle seat because a pretty young white woman can cry on command."
Another user added: "In the airplane seat war card game, inconsiderate loners beat inconsiderate losers every time. Especially the ones too cheap to buy an aisle seat."
A third person recounted a similar incident, writing: "This exact thing happened to me! What preceded it was the girl jumping into the window seat in my aisle and laughing cutely at him that she got the good seat first."
The individual explained that the girl then requested a seat swap, asking: "Then she asked if I could trade with him (in the middle seat in another row) so they could sit together."
Upon reflection, they felt that the situation was unfair. They shared: "I thought, if they really wanted to sit together, she could have given up her window seat to someone for a fair trade.
"I said no. She replied, 'It doesn't hurt to ask'. Sure it doesn't, but don't expect anyone to take a downgrade to give you an underserved upgrade."

This clifftop coast walk has an epic wild swim and some of the best fish and chips in Wales

This clifftop coast walk has an epic wild swim and some of the best fish and chips in Wales One of my favourite coastal treks combines wild swimming, majestic ruins and a lush fish and chip shop in a tiny hamlet Known as the Blue Lagoon, this striking spot was once the main slate quarry for the St Brides Slate Company (Image: Getty ) There's no better way to embrace the great outdoors than lacing up your hiking boots and heading for the Welsh coast. With the salty breeze in your hair, the crash of waves and dreamy sea views stretching to the horizon, walking along the bracing Welsh coastline invigorates the senses. Wales has an extraordinary 870-mile-long coast path, the first in the world to trace an entire nation's shoreline. The famous trail is bursting with dramatic headlands, hidden coves, ancient ruins, and a wealth of wildlife. While walking its full length is a bucket-list challenge, you don't need to be an ultra-hiker to enjoy its best bits. Throughout the long-distance route, there are countless short walks and circular trails that offer epic coastal scenery without requiring a full expedition. One of my favourite short treks combines wild swimming, majestic ruins and a lush fish and chip shop in a tiny hamlet - the Abereiddi to Porthgain walk. Here's why you should consider attempting this straightforward coastal walk and enjoy the sea views and a chippy treat. Abereiddi to Porthgain coast walk The Blue Lagoon at Abereiddy (Image: Robert Melen ) This 6.3-km out-and-back trail is located near Solva in Pembrokeshire. Generally considered an easy route, it's suitable for a range of walkers, from beginners to experienced hikers. Your route can begin at either end, but I prefer to start at Abereiddi, which has a paid car park and toilet facilities. From the pebble-strewn car park, you'll follow the waymarked trail over the cliffs, where you'll be able to look down over an unusual lagoon. Abereiddy Beach is a rather ethereal beach with moody grey pebbles, dark coarse sand, and craggy cliffs that appear to have been carved by ancient Welsh giants. Facing the Irish Sea, there's also a decent swell here for surfers and pro paddleboarders. Your route can begin at either end, but I prefer to start at Abereiddi, which has a paid car park and toilet facilities. (Image: Robert Melen ) The area is best known for its turquoise-blue lagoon, which could be mistaken for being in the Mediterranean. Known as the Blue Lagoon, this striking spot was once the main slate quarry for the St Brides Slate Company, which operated here until 1910. The leftover slate gives the water its stunning aqua-blue hue that photographers love. You'll still see hints of the area's industrial past here. The National Trust notes that slate extracted from Aberystwyth was transported by tramway to the neighbouring Porthgain Harbour and shipped out. The Blue Lagoon was formed when the channel connecting the quarry to the sea was blasted, allowing the sea to flood in. The lagoon previously hosted the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. (Image: Wales Online ) Ruined quarry buildings still sit on the clifftop, with the remains of the workmen's cottages adjacent to the car park along what was called The Row or The Street. You'll also spot the foreman's house and the powder store here. Today, it's owned by the National Trust and is famous as a top location for wild swimming and coasteering. It previously hosted the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series. This azure-blue lagoon is often a popular spot for seals and their pups at this time of year. This outdoor swimming spot is well-known as one of Britain's best wild swimming spots (Image: R A Kearton ) Each September, National Trust Cymru temporarily closes it off to help protect the newborns. The Blue Lagoon and nearby beaches offer the perfect spot for seals to haul out, rest after a good feed, socialise, and care for their young. You can start with a swim here (you'll need to take the path down to the lagoon), but I recommend saving it for the end so you can dry off, hop in your car and head home. Once you have passed the lagoon, keep following the cliff path that traces the craggy shoreline. The easy coast path continues over open grassland, skirting along the cliffs with gorgeous ocean views. Once you have passed the lagoon, keep following the cliff path that traces the craggy shoreline (Image: Portia Jones ) You'll soon be high above Traeth Llyfn. Secluded and remote, the shore is completely covered at the highest tides. There can also be strong rip currents, so swimming is not recommended; instead, it's best suited for paddling and exploring. Keep stomping along, keeping an eye out for seabirds and seals bobbing in the distant waves, and you'll soon approach Porthgain. This tiny fishing port, described by The Guardian as "a prime spot for escaping the ills of the universe", once exported roadstone all over the UK and is now home to a pub, a bistro, and an art gallery. Descend the concrete steps, and you'll reach the curved harbour wall, where you'll spot remnants of the port's former industrial workings. Look closely, and you'll spy on the abandoned ruins of stone-crushing works, lobster pots and loft cottages once used by the fishermen. Descend the concrete steps, and you'll reach the curved harbour wall, where you'll spot remnants of the port's former industrial workings (Image: Getty ) Initially, a small fishing and limekiln site, it transformed into a significant industrial hub in the mid-19th century with the development of quarrying and brickworks. Today, it's a bougie stop along the Wales Coast path with a bistro serving some of the best fish and chips in Wales. The Shed has won acclaim from Sunday Times writer Giles Coren, who called their fish and chip offering "as good as cod or haddock and chips can be" He added that it's "light, fresh and crispy but not with one of those deep bronze, inedibly crunchy, stupidly show-offy batters you find in your urban gastropub." Chef Stephen Terry has also praised the "really good fish and chips" here. Bag a table and look out over the harbour while you tuck into some fresh seafood, such as monkfish and prawn curry or halibut with samphire and shallot, served with lemon and caper butter. The Shed has won acclaim from Sunday Times writer Giles Coren (Image: Instagram / @theshedporthgain ) Fancy a halfway pint? Swing by the historic Sloop Inn, a proper character-filled pub where the decor is as eclectic as the crowd. We're talking old road signs, vintage fishing gear, beer barrels, and walls packed with snapshots of Porthgain through the ages. The main bar is located in the original 18th-century building and was lovingly restored in the 90s, but still exudes maritime charm. Settle in with a local ale, a crisp cider, or even a steamy hot chocolate if you're feeling cosy. There's a wide drinks selection and seasonal menus, and if you're lucky, you might catch some live music or even spot fresh lobster on the specials board. If you've worked up a sweat and brought your swim gear, now is the perfect time for a bracing cold water dip in the blue lagoon. Just watch out for the tombstoning teenagers. Reflecting on their choice, they articulated: "I said no. She replied, 'It doesn't hurt to ask'. Sure it doesn't, but don't expect anyone to take a downgrade to give you an underserved upgrade."
