Wicket wins Golfweek Tech Lab grand prize
Wicket's facial authentication platform took home the $25K prize at Golfweek Tech Lab, presented by T-Mobile for Business.
The 2nd annual Golfweek Tech Lab, presented by T-Mobile for Business, was held in Charlotte.
18 startups competed for awards in five categories, plus a grand prize.
Wicket, a facial recognition ticketing system, won the grand prize.
Other category winners included VRTL, Platform Golf, and Play Anywhere.
If the first Golfweek Tech Lab, held in 2024 at the PGA of America's new Frisco headquarters, proved the perfect starting point for a new festival focused on golf innovation, this year's gathering in Charlotte — just days before the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow — cemented the event as a major player in the yearly golf calendar.
With 18 startups on site, the second annual event, again presented by T-Mobile for Business and produced by Golfweek and underdog venture team, included a session with Scott Gutterman, the PGA Tour's SVP/digital and broadcast technologies.
'If you look back across the history of the sport, the sport has always evolved, the sport has always changed,' Gutterman said. "We will always uphold the tradition of the game, but we want to be looking forward. We want to be looking forward to what does golf mean to new and developing demographics.'
That sentiment was echoed by others at the conference, one that saw a guest panel of judges, including venture capitalists and business leaders from the world of golf. That group selected the winners of a best-in-show competition with participating companies hoping to earn recognition across five categories, as well as a grand prize. The judges evaluated each startup based on set criteria, including video submissions, onsite demonstration, and presentation to judges.
The winners were announced by T-Mobile's SVP of Systems Realization Grant Castle.
The grand prize winner was Wicket, which uses facial recognition to scan people into sporting events by linking them with their tickets. According to its mission statement, Wicket features a "biometrics platform that enhances the experience for fans, guests, and employees while providing a smooth, seamless experience for clients and teams, allowing them to leverage existing assets effectively."
The company is based in Massachusetts.
The category winners were:
Fan Engagement: VRTL
Athlete Performance: Platform Golf
Digital & Media: Play Anywhere
Business Solutions: Wicket
5G: Wicket
According to Nate Scott, the vice president and general manager of sports and events for Gannett, Golfweek's Tech Lab was an unmitigated success.
"I'm delighted with our second year of Tech Lab. I'm a geek for this stuff, and seeing how entrepreneurs are imagining the future of the sport is always super exciting to see," Scott said. "Golf has had a reputation for being set in its ways, yet I think there's as much experimentation and innovation happening in the sport as any other."

You Could Get $7,500 From the AT&T Settlement—Here's Who's Eligible

You Could Get $7,500 From the AT&T Settlement—Here's Who's Eligible originally appeared on Parade. If you're in the U.S. and your personal info was swept up in either of AT&T's big data breaches in either March 2024 or July 2024 (or both), there's a possibility you could be entitled to something from a $177 million class action settlement. This means if you had an account, a phone line or even just used one that was affected, you might have a payout coming your way. It's never fun finding out your data's been exposed, but at least this could be a very small silver lining. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Here's the breakdown in terms of the timeline of events: In 2024, AT&T announced two separate data breaches—one in March, when AT&T-specific customer information was found on the dark web, and another in July, when certain data was stolen from a third-party cloud platform hosted by Snowflake, Inc. Both incidents sparked lawsuits across the country, which were later combined into larger cases in federal court. By March 2025, everyone involved agreed to settle both cases together, and in May, a formal complaint was filed. This $177 million settlement resolves all claims without AT&T admitting any fault or to Know If You're Entitled to Part of the Settlement If your personal info was part of either of AT&T's two big 2024 data breaches, you might be eligible for money from this settlement. The first breach (March 30, 2024) involved things like your name, address, phone number, email, date of birth, account info or Social Security number. If you're in this group, you could get up to $5,000 for documented losses, or a smaller cash payout—bigger if your Social Security number was exposed. The second breach (July 12, 2024) involved AT&T phone numbers, call interaction data and, for a few people, cell site ID numbers. If you're in this group, you could get up to $2,500 for documented losses, or a smaller Tier 3 cash payout. Now if you had the extremely bad fortune of being caught in both breaches, you can claim for both. However, you'll need separate proof of losses for each. The exact payout amounts depend on how many people file claims and the final settlement costs. What to Do Next First of all, you have to submit a claim form. This is the only way to receive what's called a Settlement Class Member Benefit from the settlement. There's also an option to exclude yourself by doing what's called "opting out of the class." This means you won't receive any Settlement Class Member Benefit from this Settlement. But, it is the only option that allows you to keep your right to bring any other lawsuit against AT&T relating to these data breaches. Opting out it a time sensitive situation; it needs to be mailed and postmarked on or before Oct. 17, 2025. Or, you could choose to do nothing, which means you won't receive any money out of the settlement, but you also aren't planning on filing your own lawsuit either. The choice is yours. If you think you are eligible for a settlement benefit, you have two options. You can either call the Kroll Settlement Administration LLC at (833) 890-4930 to get more information, or mail them the necessary documents (either submitting a claim or opting out) to: AT&T Data Incident Settlement, c/o Kroll Settlement Administration LLC, P.O. TROW net flows were flat in July 2025. Breakdown of TROW's AUM Performance At the end of July, T. Rowe Price's equity products totaled $859 billion, an increase of 2.4% from the previous month. Our Take on TROW The company's diversified business model and ongoing efforts are expected to continue supporting its top-line growth in the future, providing resilience amid market fluctuations. A strong brand, consistent investment record, and decent business volumes are expected to keep supporting AUM growth in the upcoming period. However, the company's overdependence on investment advisory fees remains concerning. Performance of Other Asset Managers Franklin Resources, Inc. BEN reported its preliminary AUM of $1.62 trillion as of July 31, 2025, which increased slightly from the prior month. The increase in BEN's AUM balance was due to the positive impacts of markets and flat preliminary long-term net inflows, inclusive of $3 billion of long-term net outflows at Western Asset Management. Invesco IVZ released its preliminary AUM for July 2025. The company's AUM of $2,024.5 billion as of July 31, 2025, increased 1.2% from the previous month. IVZ's AUM was impacted by favorable market returns, resulting in a $22-billion increase in the metric. However, FX decreased the AUM balance by $8.5 billion. New filing: T-Mobile lays off 121 employees in Washington

(Photo by Mika Baumeister on Unsplash) T-Mobile laid off 121 workers in Washington state, according to a filing with the Washington state Employment Security Department posted on Friday. GeekWire previously reported on T-Mobile's layoffs earlier this week. The Bellevue, Wash.-based wireless carrier did not provide details about number of workers impacted but said the cuts affected employees within its IT organization. T-Mobile employed about 70,000 people as of Dec. 31, 2024. The company has nearly 8,000 employees in the Seattle region, according to LinkedIn. T-Mobile, which recently closed its acquisition of UScellular's wireless operations, reported $17.4 billion in services revenue for its most recent quarter, up 6% year-over-year, and net income of $3.2 billion — up 10% and a quarterly record. Its stock is up more than 30% in the past 12 months. Oracle and F5 also recently laid off workers in the Seattle area.
