Netizens troll Ambati Rayudu for his ill-timed tweet amid India-Pakistan tension, fans says 'Virat Kohli did the right thing...'

Following Pakistan's missile and drone attacks on Indian cities like Jalandhar, Jammu, and Pathankot, Ambati Rayudu posted, "An eye for an eye makes the world blind," triggering an internet storm for its perceived moral equivalence during a national crisis.
Following a controversial tweet, Ambati Rayudu faced significant criticism. Many fans demanded his removal from the IPL 2025 commentary team, citing his perceived lack of sensitivity in the wake of a national crisis.
In the heat of the controversy, fans resurrected the 2019 World Cup selection snub, saying Virat Kohli made the right call by not picking Rayudu in the squad, citing 'lack of maturity and team spirit.'
Ambuj Rayudu's previous perceived support for MS Dhoni and the Chennai Super Kings resurfaced, prompting criticism from some viewers who questioned his impartiality and suitability for neutral commentary positions.
Under pressure, Rayudu clarified: 'This isn't a call for weakness, but a reminder of wisdom.' He stressed that patriotism and peace can walk hand in hand, urging for justice with compassion.
Following criticism, Rayudu expressed his admiration for the Indian Army, praising their courage and dedication to protecting India's honor.
Several prominent Indian athletes, including Virat Kohli, Neeraj Chopra, PV Sindhu, and Rohit Sharma, publicly voiced strong support for the armed forces and India's actions, receiving commendation for their clear stance. This contrasted with the more ambiguous position taken by Ambati Rayudu.

Virat Kohli dragged into picture for Babar Azam's downfall; ex-Pakistan star says 'it's unfair and adds extra pressure'

Babar Azam has been time and again described as Pakistan's answer to India's Virat Kohli. Despite making his international debut six years after that of former India captain, the Kohli vs Babar narrative seems to have a telling impact on the Pakistan star after his prolonged lean patch in international cricket. Known as the poster boy of Pakistan cricket, Babar has gone more than 70 innings without an international hundred, with his last ton coming against Nepal in the 2023 Asia Cup. Babar's latest slump came against West Indies in three ODIs with just 56 runs, including a duck. This is similar to what Kohli suffered a few years back when the Indian stalwart went without a three-figure score from 2020 to 2022. Former Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad, the comparisons with Kohli affected Babar's form in international cricket. 'When everything was going well, you were running campaigns comparing players. Now that the performances are not coming, you are saying 'don't compare two players'. Why not?" Shehzad, who played 153 matches for Pakistan was quoted as saying to GeoSuper. Shehzad went on to even state that Kohli's comparison shouldn't be made with two-time World Cup-winning former captain MS Dhoni. "Virat Kohli's comparison cannot be made with anyone in the world. He is a legend of this generation, a role model. "You cannot compare him even with MS Dhoni. Dhoni may have been a great captain, but as a batter, cricketer, and athlete, Kohli stands alone. No one should be compared with anyone because it's unfair and it adds extra pressure, which we are now seeing on Babar Azam,' said Shehzad. In 2025, Babar played just 14 international matches. In three Tests, the right-hander scored 184 runs while he managed 334 in 11 ODIs. He is yet to play a T20I in this year. Interestingly, Babar's teammate Salman Ali Agha mustered most runs (857) for Pakistan in 2025. Following the ODI series against West Indies, Pakistan will next be seen in the T20I Tri-nation series in United Arab Emirates, also involving Afghanistan. The tri-series will also act as a preparation for all the three teams ahead of Asia Cup 2025 which starts on September 9. Although the squads for both the tri-series and the Asia Cup 2025 are yet to be announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Babar's is likely to be included.

Indian nurse on death row in Yemen: SC told negotiations going on, no immediate threat

New Delhi, The Supreme Court was informed on Thursday that there was "no immediate threat" to Indian nurse Nimisha Priya who is on death row in Yemen for murder. It then listed the matter after eight weeks. Indian nurse on death row in Yemen: SC told negotiations going on, no immediate threat The counsel for petitioner organisation Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, which is extending legal support to Priya, requested a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta to adjourn the matter. The apex court was hearing a plea seeking a direction to the Centre to use diplomatic channels to save the 38-year-old nurse from Palakkad in Kerala who was convicted of murdering her Yemeni business partner in 2017. "Negotiations are going on. As of now there is no immediate threat. Kindly adjourn it by four weeks. Hopefully, everything will be over by that time," the counsel said. "Let this matter be listed after eight weeks," the bench then said. The petitioner's counsel said they would mention the matter before the top court if there was any urgency. The top court was apprised last month that Priya's execution, which was scheduled for July 16, had been stayed. On July 18, the Centre informed the top court that efforts were on and the government was trying everything possible to ensure Priya came out safely. The petitioner organisation sought a Centre-appointed delegation to go to Yemen to meet the murder victim's family for negotiations. The bench said the petitioner could make a representation to the government. The petitioner's counsel had earlier said Priya's mother was in Yemen to negotiate with the victim's family and she has gone there as the Delhi High Court asked the Centre to give her permission to travel. Priya was convicted in 2017, sentenced to death in 2020 and her final appeal rejected in 2023. She is imprisoned in a jail in the Yemen capital Sana'a. The petitioner's counsel had earlier told the apex court that payment of blood money to the family of the deceased permissible under the Sharia law could be explored. He said the victim's family might pardon Priya if blood money was paid. On July 17, India said it was in touch with Yemeni authorities as well as certain friendly nations as part of efforts to reach a "mutually agreeable solution" in the case. According to Yemeni court documents, Priya allegedly drugged and murdered Talal Abdo Mahdi in July 2017. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.

'Womaniser, Ignoring Daughter': Mohammed Shami's Ex-Wife Makes Shocking Claim

Last Updated: Hasin Jahan alleged Mohammed Shami spends lavishly on his girlfriend, from luxury flights to pricey school fees for her kids, while refusing to bear daughter Ayra's education costs Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has once again landed in controversy after his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, alleged in an Instagram post that he did not want their 10-year-old daughter, Ayra, to be admitted to a good school. Ayra has secured a place in a prestigious international school, but Hasin Jahan accused Shami of neglecting her education in favour of his girlfriend's children. She alleged that Shami prioritises the education of his girlfriend's children and lavishes them with expensive luxuries while neglecting Ayra's needs. 'The enemies did not want my daughter to get admission in a good school, but Allah foiled their plans, and she has secured admission to a very good international school," she wrote on Instagram. Hasin Jahan has accused Shami of lavishly spending on his girlfriend, from booking luxury business class flights to paying for her children's admission to expensive schools, while allegedly refusing to bear the cost of their daughter Ayra's education. Hasin Jahan reportedly receives Rs 4 lakh per month in alimony from Shami, including Rs 2.5 lakh specifically for their daughter's expenses. 'The father of my daughter, despite being a billionaire, is playing with her life because of womanizing, while educating his mistress's children in elite schools. He spends lakhs on business class flights for some mistresses but claims he has no money for his own daughter's education," she wrote on Instagram. Mohammed Shami is set to make his comeback in the 2025 Duleep Trophy ahead of the Asia Cup. After a modest IPL season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was left out of the England tour. Shami married Hasin Jahan in 2014, and their only daughter, Ayra, was born in 2015, but their relationship has been marred by public allegations and legal disputes. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
