India‑Pakistan veterans match at WCL cancelled after Indans pull out
Former India opener Dhawan, writing on X late Saturday, affirmed that he would refuse to 'participate in any matches against the Pakistan team… in view of the current geopolitical situation and prevailing tensions' and noted his position had been communicated as early as May 11.
WCL organisers reacted swiftly, announcing the fixture's cancellation in the early hours of Sunday.
In their statement, they expressed regret for 'unintentionally causing discomfort to our Indian Cricket Legends' and apologised for 'hurting sentiments,' stating their initial intention had been to 'create happy memories for the fans' .
EaseMyTrip, identified as an official WCL sponsor, publicly declared it would not back any event involving Pakistan, aligning with the stance of the Indian players.
Soon after the boycott was confirmed, organisers cancelled the India-Pakistan fixture altogether. Amid mounting pressure, WCL issued a formal apology and confirmed the match would not proceed.
Sunday's engagement with Pakistan Legends was set to mark India's opening appearance in the tournament, under the leadership of Yuvraj Singh. Pakistan had already played and won it's first match against England, led by Mohammad Hafeez.
With the India, Pakistan clash off, WCL will continue with its remaining fixtures among Australia, South Africa, England and West Indies, culminating in an August 2 final.

PCB rejects Legends League boycott

All members gave Mohsin Naqvi the authority to make the final decision, expressing confidence in his leadership following the successful handling of the recent ACC meeting. Most members agreed that the team should play the final, but future decisions about this event will be made solely by the PCB Governing Board. The board members also congratulated Naqvi on the successful hosting of the ACC meeting, to which he responded by crediting teamwork for the achievement.

T20I series featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE to begin later this month
Pakistan will feature in a tri-series involving Afghanistan and UAE from August 29 to September 7 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, in the United Arab Emirates. The T20I tournament will serve as a launching pad for the teams to prepare for and acclimatise to the conditions ahead of the eight-team ACC Men's T20 Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE from September 9 to 28, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced in a press release. The opening match of the tri-series tournament will be played between Afghanistan and Pakistan on Friday, August 29, with the first ball to be bowled at 7pm local time, the PCB said. Pakistan Champions have qualified for the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 final following India Champions' withdrawal from their semi-final clash, the tournament organisers confirmed on Wednesday. The defending champions, who pulled out of their high-octane against Pakistan Champions earlier in the tournament, earned a miraculous qualification into the semi-finals by comprehensively defeating West Indies Champions which powered them past England Champions due to a superior net run rate. India Champions, as a result, finished fourth in the standings, setting up a blockbuster semi-final with arch-rivals Pakistan Champions, who finished at the top of the standings with nine points in five matches. However, soon after the matchup was confirmed, the uncertainty continued to jeopardise the blockbuster clash, caused due to India Champions' reported refusal to partake in the fixture. Meanwhile, as per the latest development, the WCL has confirmed the abandonment of the clash due to India Champions' withdrawal, citing public sentiment. Since the Pakistan Champions were ready to compete, they have now advanced to the final, where they will face winner of the second semi-final on Saturday. "At WCL, we have always believed in the power of sport to inspire and bring about positive change in the world," the cricket league said in a statement. "However, public sentiment must always be respected -after all, everything we do is for our audience. "We respect the India Champions' decision to withdraw from the semi-finals, and we equally respect the Pakistan Champions' readiness to compete. "Taking all factors into consideration, the match between the India Champions and the Pakistan Champions has been called off. "As a result, Pakistan Champions will advance to the final."
