Former DCFS employee formally charged after being accused of deleting files
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A former DCFS employee has been indicted after being accused of malfeasance in office and computer tampering.
According to East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore, Eddriene Sylvester, 55, was accused of deleting important files relevant to the Department of Child and Family Services in June 2022, while employed at the department.
Louisiana law states that the felony charge of malfeasance in office carries a maximum of 10 years in prison and/or up to a $5,000 fine. The state may also seek restitution if it suffered a loss. Computer tampering can hold a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or up to a $10,000 fine.
Sylvester's next court appearance is scheduled for May 29, 2025.
According to school records, she is currently employed at St. John the Baptist Parish Public Schools System as the Chief Financial Officer.

Former Baton Rouge city-parish contractor sentenced to 7 years in prison on child porn charges

(Louisiana First) — A man formerly contracted to work with the City of Baton Rouge has been sentenced to serve seven years in federal prison after he was convicted on child porn charges. Blake Joseph Stenier, 37, was convicted of distribution of child pornography. The court also sentenced Steiner to serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence. He was also ordered to complete sex offender treatment and register as a sex offender once he is released. According to admissions made during his plea, Steiner started a conversation on a mobileapplication group chat with an undercover agent. Officials said to get access, Steiner first sent the undercover agent a video of himself and the date to verify his identity. In another effort to gain access to what he thought was an online child pornography group, Steiner sent a video of a girl under 12 years old being raped by an adult male. Steiner then admitted to the agent that he managed another child pornography grouponline and that he engaged in hands-on conduct involving a minor. The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Louisiana State Police and was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward H. Warner. Baton Rouge woman charged after kids found unattended outside apartment multiple times, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department recently looked into whether children were left unattended outside of an apartment. The ensuing investigation led to a Baton Rouge woman being taken into custody. Ariana Dedeaux, 20, was charged with child desertion. BRPD responded to an apartment in the 2200 block of College Drive and were told by someone that two children kept exiting the apartment. The children were a 1-year-old and a two-year-old, BRPD said. They were 'found three weeks ago, unattended on the balcony near the home and playing on the outside stairwells,' according to the affidavit. Police were also told that the children were seen in the parking lot without any supervision on Monday, June 2. Residents located the children and took them to the office until Dedeaux was contacted, BRPD said. On Tuesday, June 3, the two-year-old was found again in the parking lot with no one around to watch him. He was taken to the office again by a resident. BRPD went to the children's apartment and found the door open. Dedeaux and someone else were seen asleep at that time, according to the affidavit. She was subsequently arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. 1 injured after train hits vehicle in Livingston Parish
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — One person was taken to the hospital after a train hit a vehicle in Livingston Parish on Friday afternoon. The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said the incident happened near East Railroad and Highway 190 in Livingston around 4:15 p.m. The injury is not considered to be life-threatening.
