Grand jury indicts man on multiple felony sexual assault charges involving minors

Yahoo09-04-2025

A grand jury indicted a man on multiple felony counts after DNA testing linked him to cases dating back nearly 25 years, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office announced April 9.
Prosecutors said 45-year-old Dat Vu was indicted on the following:
Two counts of sexual assault.
Two counts of sexual conduct with a minor.
One count of kidnapping.
One count of attempt to commit sexual conduct with a minor.
One count of sexual abuse.
MCAO said Vu committed the crimes between 2000 and 2005 involving four victims between the ages of 13 and 17. The agency said Vu threatened victims with a gun during two of the incidents.
His next scheduled court hearing is on May 6 in Maricopa County Superior Court.
MCAO said investigators connected Vu to the assaults through DNA testing conducted with sexual assault kits funded by Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, or SAKI, grants.
The agency said it was awarded $6.3 million for SAKI grants between 2016 and 2021, along with an additional $2.5 million in December 2024 to go toward DNA testing in cold cases involving sexual assaults.
"SAKI grants help us take a crucial step toward closure by providing the resources necessary to process sexual assault kits,' Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell said in a written statement. 'It's not only about solving these cases but restoring hope and giving victims the long-overdue justice they deserve.'

Wyoming man arrested for Motel 6 stabbing

Jun. 5—A 68-year-old man was arrested in Wyoming on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a man earlier this week at the Motel 6 in Clarkston. Thomas R. Krogman, 68, of Gillette, Wyo., is charged with first-degree attempted murder in Asotin County Superior Court. He is accused of attacking a 72-year-old man Monday morning in the lobby of the motel on Bridge Street. Police have determined Krogman is the brother-in-law of the victim. Krogman was taken into custody by the Gillette Police Department, based on a warrant issued by the Asotin County Prosecutor's Office and Clarkston Police Department. He will be transported to Asotin County to face the charge. Clarkston police were able to develop information and evidence that led to the arrest, according to a news release issued by Police Chief Josh Daniel. Police determined it was a personal attack and not a random incident, Daniel said. The investigators are still working on a motive and whether there are any accomplices. The victim, Daniel Henry, is the motel manager. Henry was last listed in stable condition after suffering multiple stab wounds, including one to the face, according to the probable-cause affidavit. When the suspect walked into the motel, he reportedly asked Henry if he remembered him. The manager said "not really," police reported in the affidavit. The man pulled a knife and first stabbed Henry in the right side of his head. He also grabbed a phone off the counter and threw it, according to the report. Daily headlines, straight to your inboxRead it online first and stay up-to-date, delivered daily at 7 AM After police arrived, witnesses at the scene described the suspect, saying he parked on the 400 block of Third Street in a red sedan before entering the motel. He sat in his car for about 10 to 15 minutes before heading toward the front office. A few minutes later, a witness saw the man running back to his vehicle and then driving east on Bridge Street. Henry was reportedly stabbed eight times during the incident. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Henry is also from Wyoming. After the red car's license plate was identified in surveillance videos, it came back to Thomas and Phyllis Krogman in Gillette. When questioned by police, Henry said Thomas Krogman is his brother-in-law. He had not seen him in approximately six years, but his sister, Phyllis, had contacted him recently by phone, according to court documents. During those conversations, his sister brought up an incident that happened 60 years ago, he told police. Based on the investigation, it appears Thomas Krogman was in Clarkston on Monday, driving a red Chevy Malibu. He matched the description of the suspect in the stabbing case and was identified by the victim during further questioning. According to police, Krogman reportedly drove home to Wyoming, where he was arrested on the Class A felony charge. Prosecutor Curt Liedkie is handling the case for the state of Washington. Chief Daniel said he appreciates the Lewiston Police Department for help on the case. The LPD used its new FLOCK cameras and automated license plate recognition system to locate the suspect vehicle. Daniel also complimented the Gillette Police Department for the swift response and apprehension of Krogman. "The collaboration and cooperation by all law enforcement agencies involved shows a committed effort to keep each community safe," Daniel said. Sandaine can be reached at kerris@

DDG asks judge to stop Halle Bailey from traveling with their son

DDG asks judge to stop Halle Bailey from traveling with their son DDG and ex-girlfriend Halle Bailey are continuing to hash out their custody issues in court. On June 4, lawyers for the 27-year-old rapper and Twitch streamer – born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. – requested a temporary emergency order in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to a filing reviewed by USA TODAY. The filing, made as part of Bailey's restraining order case against DDG that was initiated in May, asks the judge to prohibit the 25-year-old actress from traveling to Italy with their 18-month-old son, Halo. His team also asked for a continuance, or a postponement, of the domestic violence restraining order hearing that had been scheduled for June 4. According to People and E! News, in a 44-page filing, DDG's lawyers leveled allegations that cast doubt on Bailey's fitness as a parent, calling her "an imminent emotional and psychological risk." Per Billboard, the judge overseeing the case indicated she would soon issue an order on whether Bailey can travel with their son on June 4. The next hearing in the case is reportedly June 24. Bailey had been granted a temporary restraining order from DDG the same day she filed her request, according to a May 13 notice reviewed by USA TODAY. USA TODAY has reached out to Bailey's representatives for comment. Halle Bailey's allegations: Inside her restraining order request against DDG Met Gala: Halle Bailey wears suit dress Halle Bailey shines on the Met Gala red carpet in a mini-suit dress. Halle Bailey accused DDG of abuse in restraining order request In her May filing, Bailey accused DDG of physical, emotional, verbal and financial abuse and requested full legal and physical custody of Halo. As a result of DDG's alleged abuse, Bailey demanded no-contact and stay-away orders for herself and Halo that prevented DDG from getting in touch with the mother-son pair, in addition to requiring the rapper to remain 100 yards away from them and to stop posting about Bailey and Halo on social media. "I realize that there is no placating Darryl," Bailey wrote in a statement attached to the filing. "I cannot allow this abuse any longer. I cannot keep living like this. I never know when he is going to demand our son be in his mother's care and whether I will be subjected to his threats and abuse."
