UPSC CSE Prelims 2025: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will be conducting the examination for Civil Services (Preliminary) on May 25, 2025, across India. The commission has issued a notice for candidates enrolled in Civil Services (Preliminary) examination, 2025 under Persons with Benchmark Disability/Persons with Disability (PwBD or PwD) category and have opted for availing the facility of scribe.
UPSC CSE Prelims 2025: How candidates can apply for change of scribe?
Candidates who have opted for availing the facility and want to change their scribe for the Civil Services (Preliminary) examinations have been asked to forward the details of their new scribe to uscsp-upsc@nic.in via email.
Request for changing the scribe for Civil Services (Preliminary) examinations received only till May 18,2025 (up to 4 pm) on the given email address will be considered by the commission.
Candidates will have to fill out details like name of the scribe, their photograph, father's name, their educational qualification and send it to the email address provided above to get their scribe changed.

The many tales of Connemara Public Library in Chennai
On a rather breezy Friday evening, students were pouring in and out of the Connemara Public Library on the Government Museum campus in Egmore: some in large groups, others in focused solitude, with many staying the whole day. Thankfully, the structure, which houses over 9.8 lakh books, is not one of those forgotten places in the city. And there is a reason for that. One cannot ignore the library's layers of history. When the former Governor of the Madras Presidency, Lord Connemara, recognised the need for a public library in the city, he laid its foundation stone on 22 March 1890. By 1896, the library was officially opened to the public. Since then, it has grown into a landmark of Chennai, with many prominent figures, including C.N. Annadurai, Rajagopalachari, R. Venkataraman, C. Subramaniam, and writer Sujatha, having been active members. Go-to spot for UPSC aspirants Fast forward to today, the library has been witnessing a significant increase in footfall from civil service aspirants like never before. 'At least 600-700 students use the library every day, including a large section of civil service aspirants. Around 10% of them bring their own books, but space for that is limited,' says a senior librarian. While older readers still flip through newspapers and magazines in peace, it is the younger crowd that is most often seen in and around the library. Ilamathi T., a UPSC aspirant from Salem, collected her bag from the library reception after a long day. 'This library is like my second home. I also sit under the campus trees to study; it is peaceful, but at the same time, I am never alone, as many students are preparing for the exams alongside me,' said Ms. Ilamathi. 'The archives of old newspapers and the stacks of competitive exam books especially come in handy,' she added. Heritage wing What many may not know is that the heritage wing of the Connemara Library is the true jewel in its crown. It opens to the public only once a year, on April 18, when rare books from the 18th and 19th centuries come out to shine, such as The Revolt in Hindustan by Sir Evelyn Wood, Centamil published in 1822, and many more. But the spaces that hum with daily activity are the textbook section, followed by the general books, reference section, Indian language books, and periodicals. The library management has been coming up with book exhibitions, student activity programmes, children's books area, cultural programmes, and so on to increase the footfall on the literary fiction side, which has taken a dip. Meanwhile, the Public Works department has also been working on a conference room and STEM zone inside the library. Connemara also wears a badge of honour: it is one of only four libraries in the country listed under the Delivery of Books Act. This means that any book published in India — no matter the size, genre, or region — finds its way here. The membership fee for deposit is ₹300, and ₹50 for yearly circulation; members can borrow up to six books at a time. For any booklover, this is indeed a sweet deal.

What's Next After Clearing the Prelims? Candidates who have qualified the Prelims are now eligible to appear for the UPSC Mains Examination 2025. But first, they must fill out the Detailed Application Form-I (DAF-I), which will be released soon by the Commission along with submission guidelines and deadlines. Only those who complete this step will be allowed to appear for the Mains exam. UPSC Mains 2025: Exam Structure & Papers The Mains is a descriptive written exam consisting of 9 papers, including: Paper I: Essay (250 marks) Papers II-V: General Studies I-IV (250 marks each) Papers VI & VII: Optional Subject Papers I & II (250 marks each) Paper A: Compulsory Indian Language (300 marks - qualifying) Paper B: English Language (300 marks - qualifying) The total marks for the Mains stage are 1750. Candidates who qualify the Mains will move on to the Interview stage (also called the Personality Test), which carries 275 marks. 95k apply for admissions in BEd, MEd courses against 58k seats
Indore: Admissions for BEd, MEd, BPEd, and MPEd courses across Madhya Pradesh saw a record-breaking response this year, with more than 95,000 registrations recorded for 58,000 seats available in the first round of admissions under the department of higher education (DHE). In Indore alone over 7000 applications were submitted. Officials now anticipate a significant rise in cut-off scores, especially for BEd, where the merit threshold may go up to 73-74%, compared to last year's 69-71%. With the registration and verification process for the first round now complete, the department of higher education is set to release the first allotment list on Thursday. Students, who will be allotted seats, will have to confirm admission and pay the fee between June 13 and 18. Despite two more rounds to follow, the first phase already witnessed over 83,000 locked registrations and 72,000 document verifications, making it the most competitive phase so far. BEd and MEd college association representatives have urged authorities to begin CLC (college level counselling) round early to ensure optimal seat utilisation. Last year, due to technical glitches, some seats remained vacant despite high demand. In total, 775 colleges across the state offer these teacher education programmes, with 69 affiliated to Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore. Undergraduate programmes such as BA, BCom, and BSc have also seen renewed interest, despite BBA and BCA courses being shifted under the department of technical education. Admission experts attribute the surge to increasing preference among students preparing for competitive exams like MPPSC , UPSC , and police services. City college administrators believe that if technical issues are addressed timely, no seats will remain vacant this year. The second round for UG, PG and teacher education courses will begin with fresh registrations from June 13 to 18, followed by document verification, allotment lists, and fee payment as per revised schedules.
