Alderney Occupation Trail to include 80 WW2 sites
A new walking trail has been launched in Alderney to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
The Occupation Trail has been developed by Visit Alderney with the help of historian Colin Partridge.
A spokesperson for the States of Alderney said the trail guided participants across 80 key sites around the island that played pivotal roles during the German occupation between 1940 and 1945.
"This trail not only commemorates the past but helps future generations understand Alderney's place in the wider story of World War Two," said Caroline Gauvain from Visit Alderney.
Highlights of the trail include the Odeon, the Hospital Bunker and other significant locations, brought to life with photographs from the time.
The experience can be explored using a printed map available at the Alderney Visitor Centre or accessed online.

American Airlines Is Giving Onboard Service a Major Upgrade originally appeared on Parade. Attention all traveling foodies: American Airlines is rolling out a deliciously major upgrade. The airline is celebrating some of its popular summer travel destinations with a new European-inspired in-flight dining menu beginning June 11 for customers flying in Flagship Business, a Flagship Suite Preferred seat, or a Flagship Suite seat on select European routes. Routes that will feature the menu include Paris (CDG) and Nice (NCE), France; Rome (FCO), Venice (VCE), Naples (NAP), and Milan (MXP), Italy; Barcelona (BCN) and Madrid (MAD), Spain; Frankfurt (FRA) and Munich (MUC), Germany; London (LHR) and Edinburgh (EDI), United Kingdom; and Dublin (DUB), Ireland. The menu items inspired by France are ratatouille and a porcini short rib paired with polenta and blue cheese, while the Italian-inspired menu features an herbed short rib with pea risotto and pan-seared halibut with fingerling potatoes. Would it be a German menu without schnitzel and spaetzle? American Airlines isn't taking that risk, adding both to the menu with potatoes and blistered tomatoes accompanying the schnitzel, and grilled zucchini, cremini mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes joining the spaetzle. The theme continues with the Spain-inspired menu items, going coastal with a mar y mar paella and a seared sea bass served with squid ink rice, while the U.K. is represented with mustard-crumb lamb served with turnips, peas and baby carrots, and a peppercorn short rib with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. That's not the only change being implemented, as the airline is now giving customers more time to make their pre-order selections by adjusting the pre-order meal window to 20 hours before departure, giving them four additional hours than they currently have to select their in-flight meal. Orlando to host three major clubs for FIFA Club World Cup training camps

German club FC Bayern München, Italian team Juventus FC, and Brazilian team CR Flamengo are excited to use venues in sunny Orlando as their base camp for the upcoming tournament. Thousands gather to watch RAF Air Show
Thousands of military aviation enthusiasts gathered on Sunday for the RAF Cosford Air Show - the only one of its kind organised by the Air Force. As well as The Red Arrows, display teams from Ireland, Poland, and the Netherlands took to the skies above the Shropshire base. Sqn Ldr Dave Kerrison, one of the organisers, said there had been lots to enjoy. The event was first held in 1978, and has run most years since then. "Everybody wants to see the Red Arrows [but] we've got quite a lot of flights that are coming in today, so it's going to be a fun-packed day," Sqn Ldr Kerrison said ahead of the event. He added that as well as air displays, the Air Force would offer a flavour of everything it did, and not just touch upon its history and part in conflicts but highlight its role in humanitarian aid. Attractions this year included the Great War Display Team performing a dogfight routine in replica British, French and German World War One aircraft. There were also displays by the Royal Navy Black Cats, and Chinook and Apache helicopters. There was also a display from aerobatics pilot Mélanie Astles, the first woman to take part in the Red Bull Air Race. The chairman of the Royal Netherlands Air Force Historic Flight André Steur said it was an honour to attend the event. "The ties [between ourselves and the RAF] are very close and have been for years so when we were asked to come here, we were very glad to honour it," he said. West Midlands Railway advised that due to a late-notice shortage of crew, there would be limited train services returning from the event.
