Anwar condemns ‘vile and treacherous' attack on Rafizi's son
PETALING JAYA : Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the 'vile and treacherous' attack on the son of former economy minister Rafizi Ramli at a shopping mall in Putrajaya today.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said he had contacted home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure that a transparent and speedy investigation is carried out into the incident.
'We have yet to recover from the issue of bullying in schools, and now, another deeply regrettable act has occurred … a vile and treacherous attack on the son of our brother Rafizi.
'I am praying for the wellbeing of Rafizi and his family,' he said.
Earlier today, the Pandan MP said his 12-year-old son was dragged and stabbed with a syringe by an assailant at about 1.45pm as his son and wife were getting into their car.
The former PKR deputy president described the attack as unprecedented in his political career and believed that it was meant as a warning for him to stop speaking out on certain issues.
In a statement, Saifuddin said the police would conduct a full and impartial investigation.
He said the home ministry viewed the incident seriously, and stressed that the safety of the public, including children, remains the ministry's top priority.
'We will not compromise on any form of violence or threats,' he said.
Separately, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party was shocked and saddened by the incident.
Fuziah said she prayed for the speedy recovery of Rafizi's son, and hoped that Rafizi and his family would remain strong in facing the ordeal.
'Children must never be made victims under any circumstances. Such an act is cruel, inhumane, and must be condemned in the strongest terms,' she said.

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to deliver a major address to Malaysia's civil servants at the 20th edition of the Majlis Amanat Perdana Perkhidmatan Awam (MAPPA XX) tomorrow, held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). "Last year, the prime minister unveiled the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), and this year, we have been informed that new announcements will be made, including the launch of the Public Service Talent Development Policy, which will serve as a guide for heads of departments and agencies in nurturing talent within their organisations," she said during a video call on Bernama TV's Malaysia Petang Ini programme. Saharah added that this year's MAPPA would be held under the theme Perkhidmatan Awam MADANI Teras Kecemerlangan (Madani Civil Service: Pillar of Excellence), which highlights not only leadership aspirations but also a reflection of the core Madani values guiding Malaysia's current governance reforms. "The event also emphasises the civil service reform agenda led by the Chief Secretary to the Government, alongside values-driven service excellence promoted by the director-general of Public Service," she said. Saharah said prior to the main address, civil servants attending MAPPA XX would be invited to participate in the Tazkirah Jumaat (religious reflection session) at 12.45 pm, followed by Friday prayers at Dewan Putra, PICC, which can accommodate up to 1,000 worshippers. Other activities in conjunction with MAPPA XX include the Cakna Inspirasi Forum at 2.30pm, focusing on social media and the spirit of independence, as well as 43 exhibition booths showcasing ministries, government agencies, and departments from 9am to 5pm. Over 100,000 foreigners in Sabah registered in digital data system
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 113,282 foreigners employed in Sabah's plantation sector have registered in the centralised digital data system. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the system facilitates real-time monitoring and management of foreign workers. He clarified that the digital data collection is unrelated to citizenship or permanent residency issues. The minister spoke after chairing key meetings on foreigner management and citizenship status in Sabah. The meetings were led by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor at Menara Kinabalu. Saifuddin Nasution announced plans to expand data collection to agriculture, manufacturing, and mining sectors. A moratorium on enforcement will allow foreign workers time to register under the digital system. He emphasised the need for accurate data to shape policies on foreign residents in Sabah. The state government will provide a specific period for the moratorium's implementation. The meetings also addressed efforts to relocate the Palauh or Bajau Laut community for land-based employment. Saifuddin Nasution refuted claims that the community is neglected, highlighting government initiatives. Additionally, 1,247 out of 2,000 citizenship applications were approved at the JKKSK meeting. These applications spanned from 2021 to last year and were assessed under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution. Article 15A allows for citizenship grants in special circumstances.
