Every penny given to the Centre by Tamil Nadu returned, says BJP leader Annamalai
COIMBATORE: Former president of Tamil Nadu BJP, K Annamalai, on Thursday said the two schemes – Kalaignar Kaivinai Thittam and Muthalvar Marundhagam – introduced by the TN government in competition with the central government's Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma scheme and Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Periyojana (PMBJP) have utterly failed.
He said the Muthalvar Marundhagam scheme has failed to attract people and also affected the supply chain of the PMBJP scheme.
He was speaking to the media in Coimbatore after releasing a book detailing the BJP government's electoral promises and its accomplishments. The book launch was part of the celebration of 11 years of the BJP rule at the centre.
Stating that the BJP has transparently shared information about its promises, Annamalai criticised the DMK government for failing to fulfill at least 50 of its 512 electoral promises, even after completing four years of its rule in TN.
He highlighted that TN has contributed Rs 4,36,136 crore to the central government over the last four years, while the total transfer from the centre to TN has been Rs 5,47,380 crore. 'Every penny given to the centre from the state has been returned. We will share the data, and the state government can verify it,' Annamalai said.

"Urdu has been the official language of J&K for centuries. At least 70% of the population is familiar with the language in written and spoken form. All revenue records are preserved in this language. BJP's dislike for Urdu should be resisted by the NC govt," PDP spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said. Party MLA Waheed Parra said BJP's demand to remove Urdu from the revenue exam, if accepted, would risk erasing J&K's rich archive and cultural legacy. "Urdu is more than a language - it is a key part of J&K's heritage," he said. The controversy erupted after J&K Services Selection Board on June 9 issued an advertisement for 75 posts of naib tehsildar, specifying 'working knowledge of Urdu' as a mandatory requirement. BJP protested the move, saying it violated constitutional principles of equal opportunity and administrative impartiality and created an unfair barrier, putting aspirants from Jammu in a disadvantageous position as they usually studied Hindi and Punjabi languages. Party leaders said J&K had five official languages and giving preference to one of these in recruitment exams was discriminatory. NC has refrained from making an official statement on the controversy.

Siddaramaiah highlighted the stark imbalance in fiscal returns despite Karnataka's significant contribution to the national economy. In an additional memorandum submitted to the commission, Karnataka articulated its vision for reforms aimed at creating a predictable and fair devolution system. 'Karnataka's fiscal strength fuels national growth. It is time to ensure that growth is not penalised but rewarded. We urge the commission to adopt a balanced, forward-looking approach to devolution," the chief minister stated to the media after the meeting. Siddaramaiah underscored the state's share, with Karnataka contributing nearly 8.7% of India's GDP with just 5% of the population and ranking second in GST collections. Despite this, Karnataka receives a mere 15 paise for every rupee contributed to union taxes, a figure drastically impacted by the reduction in its share from 4.713% to 3.647% under the 15th Finance Commission, leading to a cumulative loss of over Rs 80,000 crore. What Karnataka wants Karnataka has sought increased vertical devolution. It has asked to increase the states' share of taxes to at least 50% and cap cesses and surcharges at 5%, along with including union non-tax revenues in the divisible pool. It is also urging a more balanced horizontal devolution. The CM proposed that states retain 60% of their contributions, with 40% directed to less-developed states to balance growth and equity. He suggested a reduction in the weight of the income-distance criterion and greater emphasis on a state's economic contribution to avoid penalising high-performing states. Siddaramaiah advocated for critical reforms to Revenue Deficit Grants and State-Specific Grants, noting that Karnataka's per capita devolution significantly dropped between the 14th and 15th Finance Commissions. Uttar Pradesh blocks two Urs events citing law & order concerns
Representative image (ANI) AYODHYA : Local authorities in Ayodhya and Barabanki of BJP-governed UP have refused to allow two annual Urs ceremonies, citing concerns over potential breach of peace and law-and-order problems. The ceremonies have been held for years and the permission for the one in Ayodhya was denied following a complaint from VHP activists. The Ayodhya gathering has been organised at the shrine of Dada Miya in Khanpur Masodha area. The other relates to the Urs of Syed Shakeel Baba and has been held in Phoolpur area of Barabanki for the past 75 years. The VHP complaint claimed the Ayodhya gathering was being organised in the name of "Ghazi Baba" (a reference to Syed Salar Masood of Bahraich) instead of Dada Miya Urs. Salar Masood is believed to be the nephew of Mahmud of Ghazni and served as his military commander. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath recently declared that no event celebrating foreign aggressors should be allowed in the state. The permission granted under the name of "Urs Dada Miya" has been revoked as it was found that it was being organised under the name of Ghazi Baba, said Ayodhya circle officer Ashutosh Tiwari.
