Backstroke queen Kaylee McKeown pulls off another golden double
Once again it was American Regan Smith looking to take down McKeown, only to be reeled in on the last lap as the Australian dominator clocked 2:03.33, the third fastest swim of all time. It was nearly a second better than Smith (2:04.29), who had taken silver behind McKeown in the 100m and 200m at the Paris Olympics, and was runner-up to her again in the 100 in Singapore.
Just like in Paris, McKeown's win came straight after compatriot Cameron McEvoy stormed to his second 50m freestyle title in 21.14 seconds, becoming the oldest Australian swimming world champion at the age of 31.
Fastest off the blocks, McEvoy once again denied Ben Proud (21.26) gold, having beaten the Briton to the Olympic title by a fingertip in Paris exactly a year ago.
A new dad since Paris, McEvoy thanked his wife Maddi and gave a shout-out to his baby boy Hartley. 'It's a very different life,' he said. 'I've got to navigate it, I'll figure it out. But it's cool to have that at home and still be here doing what I love.'

Emma Raducanu adds Rafael Nadal's former coach Francis Roig to team full-time
Emma Raducanu has added Rafael Nadal's former coach Francis Roig to her team on a full-time basis ahead of this month's US Open, the PA news agency understands. The 2021 winner at Flushing Meadows has worked with British coach Mark Petchey on an informal basis since March and enjoyed a positive run of results. However, Petchey's TV commitments meant he was always unable to become Raducanu's full-time coach and after a trial with Roig following Wimbledon, the 22-year-old will begin work with him in Cincinnati this week after he agreed a contract until the end of 2025. Raducanu has struggled to settle with a coach in recent years until her part-time work with Petchey started to pay dividends earlier this season. WTA 1000 quarter-final showing at the Miami Open in March was followed by a round-of-16 run at the Italian Open before she made the last eight in the first women's tournament at Queen's Club. Aryna Sabalenka proved too strong for Raducanu in round three at Wimbledon, but this was backed up by a semi-final at the Citi Open as the British number one targets being seeded at the US Open later this month. TV commentator Petchey, who worked with Andy Murray at the start of his career, revealed in July that Raducanu would need to find a full-time coach soon and she has in Roig. Spanish coach Roig worked with Nadal alongside Nadal's uncle Toni for the majority of the 22-time grand slam champion's career and more recently was part of Matteo Berrettini's backroom staff. Raducanu will stay close to Petchey, PA understands, but turns her focus back to rising up the WTA rankings with a strong display at the Cincinnati Open over the next fortnight.

NCAA makes huge decision on the future of March Madness amid expansion discussions
The NCAA will not expand the men's and women's tournaments in 2026 and will stay at 68 teams making the field, the organization's senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt announced Monday. Conversations are still ongoing within the NCAA about adding more teams to the prestigious postseason tournament field. The tournaments staying at 68 teams brings a sigh of relief to most college basketball fans, who want March Madness to stay exclusive. If the NCAA tournaments were to expand the field, it would create more at-large spots for teams, as more conferences are not on the way. Some in sports have wanted more teams to participate in March Madness, as currently under 20 percent of teams get to The Big Dance. More games will equal more revenue, even if the quality of teams as a whole will drop by lowering the standards to make the bubble. The NCAA men's tournament last expanded in 2011 from 65 teams to 68 teams, expanding from one play-in game the Tuesday before the Round of 64 gets underway to four. The play-in game was first introduced in 2001, as the tournament expanded from 64 of 65 teams. Before that, the last expansion to the tournament happened in 1985, when the selection committee chose 64 teams instead of 53. A popular model for adding teams has seen only six more teams join the field, giving every No 11 and 12 seed a play-in game instead of only half of them. Any changes will have to wait until the 2027 season, as the tournament field will stay at 68 for now.

Dave Portnoy reveals Barstool Sports passed on WNBA star Sophie Cunningham's podcast
Dave Portnoy is no stranger to partnering with athletes for Barstool Sports podcasts, but he recently turned down the chance to work with Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham. Cunningham, who has seen her fame skyrocket after teaming up with Caitlin Clark, recently announced a new podcast alongside Complex producer and 'Summer House' reality star West Wilson. And while Portnoy had the pair record a test episode for his company, the show ultimately landed at Colin Cowherd's 'The Volume' network after the Barstool boss felt his business was 'getting screwed' in negotiations. 'It wasn't so much her, any time I have to deal with agents, it's hard,' he revealed on 'The Unnamed Show.' 'I really thought we would be carrying so much of the weight, marketing, all this s***, and her focus wasn't going to be the podcast. It was just one amongst 9,000 things she was doing. And so it felt like we were getting screwed.' Portnoy added that the deal was nearly signed before he ultimately walked away. However, Portnoy revealed on 'Unnamed' that Cunningham wasn't the only athlete he recently passed on. He shared to co-hosts Ryan Whitney and Kirk Minihane that he was in talks to add a hockey show with NHL star brothers Brady and Matthew Tkachuk. Former NHL player Whitney, though, already hosts Barstool's hit hockey show 'Spittin Chiclets' alongside fellow ex-player Paul Bissonnette, and Portnoy ultimately decided not to go into business with the Tkachuks. 'Chiclets is huge, the No. 1 hockey podcast,' he said on 'Unnamed,' as reported by Awful Announcing. 'Is it like this enormous cash cow like [Pardon My Take']? 'No…Hockey isn't football. It just isn't. You don't have the advertising coming into it… If it was a football podcast, I'll keep adding football because advertisers can't get enough. Give me football. They're dying to spend on football. You don't have that in hockey.' He later continued: 'It's going to be a lot of stress in my life to not make a lot of money, but just have a cool podcast. At this point, is it worth it? And in the end, I don't think it is. It's just going to add f***ing a ton of stress.' Brady and Matthew, of the Senators and Panthers respectively, are both multi-time All-Stars but Portnoy evidently didn't think they would be a good enough investment for his company. Barstool already has (separate) shows with basketball player Patrick Beverley and former NFL star Arian Foster. The popular 'Bussin with the Boys' podcast, hosted by ex-NFL players Taylor Lewan and Will Compton, was also previously part of the Barstool network before departing the company in January.
