Bryce Perkins is the UFL offensive player of the year

Panthers quarterback Bryce Perkins missed 30 percent of the 2025 regular season. He still did enough to become the UFL's offensive player of the year. The league announced on Tuesday that Perkins has secured the honor. He's the first quarterback to win the award; last year, the UFL offensive player of the year was St. Louis receiver Hakeem Butler. The vote was determined by a panel of league and team executives, coaches, and players from all eight teams, along wih broadcast partners and media members. Perkins last week was named the UFL All-Pro quarterback, despite finishing fourth in the eight-team league in passing yards. The former L.A. Rams quarterback returned from an ankle injury to lead the Panthers to a playoff win over the Birmingham Stallions. On Sunday, the Panthers face the D.C. Defenders for the UFL title.

Cardinals promote Roby to Memphis

ST. LOUIS, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals will open a 12-game home stand Tuesday night starting with six against Tulsa. But Springfield will do it without one of its top pitchers. In our Cardinals Nation update, St. Louis promoted right handed starting pitcher Tekoah Roby to Triple AAA Memphis. The move comes just a few days after St. Louis named Roby it's minor league pitcher of the month of May. Roby started five games for Springfield in May. He finished 2-1 with 33 strikeouts in the month. The righty collected 11 of them against the Amarillo Sod Poodles on May 16th. Tekoah Roby is 4-2 overall this season with a 2.49 ERA. Roby came to Springfield in 2023 in a trade with the Texas Rangers. He was injured most of last season. Springfield will open a six game series against Tulsa Tuesday night. Then Corpus Christi will come to Hammons Field June 17th through the 22nd. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. David Ayala scores in stoppage time to give Timbers 2-1 win over St. Louis

Associated Press PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — David Ayala scored in stoppage time to give the Timbers a 2-1 victory over St. Louis City on Sunday, extending Portland's unbeaten streak at home to eight games. Ayala's goal came in the second minute of second-half stoppage time off a corner kick. After a scoreless first half in temperatures that soared into the 90s Fahrenheit, Akil Watts scored in the 50th minute to put St. Louis City (3-8-6) ahead. Five minutes later, Antony fooled a defender and put his shot from atop the box into the upper far corner to pull the Timbers (7-4-6) even. It was Antony's team-leading sixth goal of the season. The match was City's second under David Critchley, who took over after the team fired Olof Mellberg. St. Louis beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 in Critchley's debut to end its 11-match regular-season winless streak. St. Louis peppered Portland goalkeeper James Pantemis with eight shots on goal, but he made seven saves. St. Louis counterpart Roman Burki made four saves. ___ AP soccer: recommended
