BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Ta'Niya Latson scored 28 points and sixth-seeded Florida State defeated George Mason on Saturday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Mikayla Timpson had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Seminoles (24-8), who advanced to play either No. 3 seed LSU or 14th seed San Diego State in a second-round game on Monday night. Paula Suarez scored 25 points and Kennedy Harris added 12 points for George Mason (27-6), which was making its first March Madness appearance after winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Florida State led by as many as 20 points in the middle of the second quarter, but George Mason pulled within seven when the second of Suarez's back-to-back 3s made it 49-42. Flyers to play in NIT for fourth time in eight seasons, earn No. 1 seed
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – After a disappointing early exit from the Atlantic 10 Tournament the UD men's basketball team accepted a bid to play in the NIT on Sunday night for the fourth time in the last eight seasons. The Flyers earn a No. 1 seed in the Dayton Region. It will be the first National Invite Tournament appearance for Dayton in three years. Because their homecourt at UD Arena is in use for the NCAA First Four, the Flyers will take on Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton at the Elanor R. Baldwin Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN2. The Flyers are one of 32 teams in the NIT field. Dayton suffered a frustrating 73-68 loss to St. Joe's in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament as the No. 3 seed on Friday night. Loyola's NCAA Tournament hopes end with a 62-55 loss to VCU in Atlantic 10 semifinals
WASHINGTON — Max Shulga had 14 points and 10 rebounds to help VCU beat Loyola 62-55 on Saturday in an Atlantic 10 Tournament semifinal. The Top-seeded Rams advanced to the championship game against the winner of the second semifinal between George Mason and Saint Joseph's. VCU and George Mason tied for the regular-season championship. The Ramblers (22-11) battled back from a nine-point halftime deficit and took a 51-50 lead on Kymany Houinsou's basket with 5 minutes, 10 seconds to play. But VCU answered with a 9-0 run and held on for their 10th straight win. Miles Rubin led the way for the Ramblers with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Sheldon Edwards also scored 12 points.
