Flyers to play in NIT for fourth time in eight seasons, earn No. 1 seed
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – After a disappointing early exit from the Atlantic 10 Tournament the UD men's basketball team accepted a bid to play in the NIT on Sunday night for the fourth time in the last eight seasons.
The Flyers earn a No. 1 seed in the Dayton Region.
It will be the first National Invite Tournament appearance for Dayton in three years.
Because their homecourt at UD Arena is in use for the NCAA First Four, the Flyers will take on Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton at the Elanor R. Baldwin Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The game will be broadcasted on ESPN2.
The Flyers are one of 32 teams in the NIT field.
Dayton suffered a frustrating 73-68 loss to St. Joe's in the quarterfinal round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament as the No. 3 seed on Friday night. It marked their second-straight exit from the conference championship bracket in the quarterfinal.
The Flyers carry a 22-10 overall record into the NIT.

Brookville native to perform at NBA Finals
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Miami Valley native is fulfilling a lifelong dream. Brookville's own, Brooklyn Skinner, has been cheerleading her whole life and that journey continues now as she does so for the Indiana Pacers. The 24-year-old's always dreamed of being an NBA cheerleader. Her path to the Indiana Pacemates began at the age of two at the Miss Margaret Leiber School of Dance and continued through her time at Brookville High School and Wright State University. After graduating with a degree in dance, Skinner didn't have a particular NBA team in mind, but she knew she wanted to continue on that stage. Her mom suggested that she try out for the Pacers dance team. She went for the opportunity simply for the experience, the rest was history, as she's now nearly wrapped up her second season as a Pacemate. Nearly wrapped up, as the Pacers continue to compete in the NBA Finals, a series currently tied 1-1 as of this writing. The heightened stage of the Finals has ramped up the usual routine for the dance squad. 'It's been insane. Like coming off of regular season games and then going into playoffs is a completely different atmosphere. And it's so cool to experience that with like a group of women that you love to be around,' Skinner says. 'And just experiencing new things is awesome with them.' Tri-Village wins program's first state title
AKRON, Ohio (WDTN) – Tri-Village softball won the program's first-ever state championship Sunday after defeating Sugarcreek Garaway 6-0 in the final. It was the Patriots' first trip to the state final since 1980. Emma Greet led the way at the plate for the Patriots, going 2-3 with an RBI base hit. Elizabeth Poling tossed a dime for Tri-Village, pitching the complete-game shutout with just three hits given up and striking out three. Ohio State basketball reportedly set to announce home-and-home series with in-state rival For years, the Ohio State basketball program has kept its in-state brethren within arm's length of playing during the regular season. Reasons aren't fully known, but many believe it's because the Buckeyes have nothing to gain by playing the likes of Cincinnati, Dayton, or Xavier -- three other programs in the state that could take away the mantle of being the so-called best hoops program in the Buckeye state. We've seen OSU play that trio before, but more often than not, it's been because it was forced to through special events or postseason tournament play. It seemed like a far-fetched idea that Ohio State would enter into any kind of agreement to play on another in-state basketball school as a part of a nonconference, regular-season game willingly. Until now. Though further details are still to materialize, NCAA basketball insider Jon Rothsten has announced that Ohio State and Dayton have agreed to a home-and-home series beginning this year, with the first game being at UD Arena in Dayton. There has not been an announcement by the Ohio State or Dayton athletic programs as of yet, but Rothsten is usually on point with these sorts of things, so expect something to be made official from the universities soon with a real, live date and time. Crazy enough, the Flyers and Buckeyes have only met twice, with the last meeting being a classic in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. That contest was won by the Flyers on a layup with under four seconds remaining to end OSU's postseason run. The win also evened up the all-time series at one victory each. OSU won the only other matchup 74-63 in an NIT quarterfinal in 2008. I'm all about this sort of scheduling and think it is long overdue. In fact, while we are on it, why don't we start a little Buckeye state annual event with all four of these programs doing battle? How fun could that be?
