Trump says many people are starving in Gaza after meeting Starmer

Al Arabiyaa day ago
In this episode of W News, presented by Jono Hayes, our top story is the meeting in Scotland between US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Trump acknowledged that many people are starving in Gaza and suggested Israel could do more to improve humanitarian access, a day after the Israeli military announced new measures to increase aid. With the Gaza death toll approaching 60,000 after two years of war, health officials say more people are now dying from starvation and malnutrition. Images of severely malnourished children have sparked global outrage and intensified criticism of Israel over the deepening humanitarian crisis.

Saudi Arabia welcomes UK pledge to recognize Palestinian state

Saudi Gazette report NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday welcomed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's announcement of the United Kingdom's intention to recognize the State of Palestine and its support for the two-state solution. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom reiterated its call for the international community and peace-loving nations to take serious steps to implement international resolutions that affirm the Palestinian people's right to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy at the Kingdom's permanent mission to the United Nations in New York, on the sidelines of the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and implementation of the two-state solution, co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France. Prince Faisal welcomed the UK's declaration and intention to move forward with Palestinian state recognition, describing it as a significant step. The two officials also discussed ongoing efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Earlier on Tuesday, the British Prime Minister's Office confirmed that the UK plans to recognize the State of Palestine at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session in September unless Israel takes "substantive steps" to end the dire situation in Gaza and commit to a lasting peace. 'This is about protecting the two-state solution,' the UK government said. 'Statehood is an inalienable right, not a gift to be granted.'

Saudi Arabia welcomes announcement that UK will recognize Palestinian state in September unless Israel acts

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia on Tuesday welcomed British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's announcement that the UK will formally recognize the State of Palestine in September unless Israel takes various 'substantive steps.' In a statement, the foreign ministry said: 'The Kingdom renews its call to the international community and peace-loving countries to take serious steps that affirm the inherent right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.' Starmer said on Tuesday that the UK will recognize a Palestinian state if Israel has not taken the steps demanded by the time the UN General Assembly is held in September. It must 'end the appalling situation in Gaza, agree to a ceasefire and commit to a long-term, sustainable peace, reviving the prospect' of a two-state solution, he added. 'I've always said we will recognise a Palestinian state as a contribution to a proper peace process, at the moment of maximum impact for the two-state solution,' Starmer said. 'With that solution now under threat, this is the moment to act.'
