Mumbai woke up to yet another rain-soaked morning on Tuesday, as relentless downpours lashed the city and its suburbs. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for Mumbai, advising residents to avoid coastal areas and low-lying zones prone to flooding.
Neighbouring districts were also placed under varying alerts — Thane, Raigad, Mumbai suburban uber red alert, Pune under Orange, and Palghar on Yellow Alert.
An Orange Alert is typically issued when rainfall is expected to range between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours, signalling the likelihood of significant disruption due to heavy showers.
According to the IMD, moderate rain is forecast across many parts of Mumbai and surrounding areas over the next four days. Short-term predictions warn of moderate rain, thunder, lightning, and strong winds in some pockets of Mumbai and Thane over the next three to four hours.
The department has urged people to exercise caution when venturing outdoors, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and flash floods.

Heavy rains led to waterlogging in several parts of Mumbai, causing delays and inconvenience to commuters during peak hours.
The Mumbai Traffic Police announced the closure of Andheri Subway in Andheri West after nearly two feet of water accumulated, forcing traffic diversions via Gokhale Bridge.
"Due to 2 feet of water accumulation, the Andheri Subway in Andheri West, Mumbai, has been closed to traffic and has been diverted via Gokhale Bridge," the Mumbai Traffic Police posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Heavy rainfall lashed Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The rain led to disruptions in helicopter services in the the district where revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine is situated. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued an orange alert for the region, forecasting heavy rainfall from today till July 23. Despite the adverse weather, devotees continued to arrive at the holy cave shrine for darshan of the Goddess. The entire shrine complex, including the Bhawan area, was enveloped by dense clouds that reduced visibility in the area. Authorities have urged pilgrims and visitors to stay updated with weather advisories. Besides Jammu and Kashmir, the IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several states, including in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Kerala & Mahe, Punjab and Uttarakhand. 'Heavy Rainfall very likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Lakshadweep, Madhya Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, South Interior Karnataka, Sub Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Tamil Nadu Puducherry & Karaikal and West Uttar Pradesh," the IMD further wrote on X. The areas that received rain included those in Central Delhi, South Delhi and South East Delhi. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the yellow colour code stands for "be aware" and indicates a chance of significant rainfall with possibility of isolated flooding in low-lying areas and potential disruptions to outdoor activities. Meanwhile, Delhi on Wednesday recorded a minimum temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's normal, the weather office said. The relative humidity at 8.30 AM was 89 per cent. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 34 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. The air quality was recorded in the satisfactory category as the Air Quality Index (AQI) at 9 AM stood at 60. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
